12 Things Not To Do In Edinburgh

What are the don'ts of visiting Edinburgh, Scotland? Visit Edinburgh, a city that is a treasure trove of history and culture and is well worth the trip. The fact that it is so unique, though, also means that there are many chances for you to make a fool of yourself while going about it.
When traveling to Edinburgh, following are some of the most typical errors that tourists make. But don’t worry! The worst thing that may happen to you as a result of making any of these blunders is catching a cold and perhaps getting some funny stares from the locals. However, being well-prepared will not only make your trip to the Scottish capital more pleasurable but can also save you a little bit of money and clear up some of the misunderstanding you may encounter there.
1. Putting in an order for a single malt whiskey served over ice
Or even worse, with a Coca-Cola
It is easy to see why Scots are so proud of their whiskey. A complicated beverage that is as refined as any French wine has been crafted by using generations' worth of experience and years' worth of maturing. If you ask for your single malt to be served on the rocks, a knowledgeable bartender will highly recommend that you drink it neat first (the way it was intended to be served), and if required, add a few drops of water to your glass. Those with less discernment will put the ice in the glass, but they will be evaluating you while they do so. If you spoil the flavor of a perfectly nice dram by adding Coke to it, the grading will be that much more rigorous.
2. You shouldn't just drink whiskey all the time.
During your time in Edinburgh, you should definitely have a few drams of the water of life, but save the distillery tours for when you're in the Highlands and Islands. It's possible that this picture contains Table Chairs for Restaurants Cafes and Dining Tables Furniture Chairs Wooden Chamber and the Interior.
Gin is big in Edinburgh: It is reported that the city has the highest per capita consumption of gin in the whole United Kingdom. You may take a tour of the Edinburgh Gin distillery, and then go to the Heads & Tales pub for a drink afterward. Similarly, in the Summerhall arts theatre's Dick's Bar, you can have Pickering's Gin, which is produced in the building next door, straight from the tap. The 56 North gin stockpile is the most extensive in all of Scotland, including more than 170 individual bottles.
3. Ignoring the raincoat
Even during the warmest months of the year, the weather in Scotland is famously unpredictable. It's been stated that whether the sky is clear or overcast, you shouldn't put too much stock in either one since you never know what the weather may bring. Even if you want to travel to Edinburgh in the middle of the summer, you should still bring a decent raincoat that is waterproof with you. Otherwise, you run the risk of being soaked. It is not worth your time to make an effort to control the situation using an umbrella since it will not hold up for long in the often-strong gusts.

Leith Walk, Edinburgh | The Tram Extension, Leith Walk Bars, History & More | July 2021

Join me on this beautiful summer's day (July 2021) for a morning stroll up Leith Walk, Edinburgh, accompanied by earache from the tram extension and some truly ridiculous commentary.

Leith Walk, Edinburgh, is the historic 1.6km-long avenue joining the east end of the city with the Port of Leith. Along our way, we'll see the tram extension works in all their glory, as well as lots of Leith Walk bars, restaurants, and landmarks of Leith. I'll also hit you with some factual history about the origins of Leith Walk, dating back to 1700.

The tram extension section on Leith Walk, Edinburgh, is due to be finished sometime in the next 12 months. We'll all wait with bated breath at the edge of our chairs to see if that comes true (and at what cost).

Old Photographs Balerno Edinburgh Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Balerno, Scottish Gaelic: Baile Àirneach, a suburb of Edinburgh, situated 8 miles south west of the city centre, next to Currie and then Juniper Green. The earliest written records of Balhernoch or Balernach are found in the late 13th century.. Malleny House is by Balerno. The first record of an estate at Malleny dates back to 1330, but the first house we know of was built in 1478. In 1637 Sir James Murray of Kilbaberton built a house at Malleny, then a short ride from Edinburgh. Sir James, died 1634, was a Scottish master wright and architect. He served as the King's Master of Works under King James VI, and Charles I. He was one of the first men in Scotland to be called an architect. His father James Murray, died1615, was a master wright and was appointed Overseer of the King's Works in Scotland in 1601. The younger James was appointed Overseer in 1605, when his father resigned the post, and two years later was appointed principal Master of Works in Scotland, succeeding David Cunninghame of Robertland. He was granted land near Juniper Green, outside Edinburgh, in 1612. Between 1622 and 1623 he designed and built Baberton House as his home here. Murray drew up plans for Parliament House in Edinburgh in 1633, and the building was constructed to his design over the following years. As Master of Works he was also in charge of works at Linlithgow Palace, the reconstruction of Holyrood Palace prior to the coronation of Charles I, and additions to the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle. On 28 September 1608, Murray chased Finlay Taylor, a baillie of the Canongate, with a drawn sword in the Abbey Close near Holyroodhouse. In 1633, at the coronation of King Charles I, Murray was knighted. He died in December of the following year.

Exploring Edinburgh | Royal Yacht Britannia Tour + Lunch in Leith

We explore more of Edinburgh as we visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, We have lunch at Fisher's Bistro in Leith, and we drink a beer at an Edinburgh brewery.

***This video was filmed in the summer of 2022 when Queen Elizabeth was still the Queen of England.

00:00 Exploring Edinburgh - Royal Yacht Britannia
01:50 Tea on Royal Yacht Britannia - Edinburgh, Scotland
03:35 Fisher's Bistro - Edinburgh, Scotland
07:30 Moonwake Brewery - Edinburgh, Scotland

Royal Yacht Britannia

The Royal Yacht Britannia is a decommissioned royal yacht of the British monarch. It was in service from 1954 to 1997, and during this time it sailed more than a million nautical miles, serving the British Royal Family on numerous official visits and tours. The yacht was used to host many important state occasions, and it was also a private retreat for the Queen and her family.

The Royal Yacht Britannia is now permanently moored in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is open to the public as a museum. Visitors can explore the ship and see how the Royal Family lived and worked on board, including the State Apartments, the Crew's Quarters, and the Engine Room. The ship also has several restaurants and a gift shop.

Leith Edinburgh

Leith is a district in the north of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is located at the mouth of the Water of Leith river where it flows into the Firth of Forth. Leith has a long history as a port town, and for many years it was a separate town from Edinburgh. Today, it is a vibrant and multicultural area with a variety of shops, bars, restaurants, and cultural attractions.

Some of the main attractions in Leith include the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is permanently moored there as a museum, and the historic Leith Theatre, which hosts a variety of music and performing arts events. There are also several art galleries and studios in the area, as well as the popular Leith Market, which takes place every Saturday and offers a range of local produce, crafts, and street food.

Leith has undergone significant regeneration in recent years, with new housing developments, businesses, and cultural spaces opening up. The area has become increasingly popular with young professionals and families, and it is well-connected to the rest of Edinburgh by public transport.

Chasing the RED ARROWS through Scotland and stumbling upon a 10/10 museum along the way!

A very unexpected sight while hanging out the washing led to a dash through Scotland to follow the Red Arrows on their only scheduled visit to Scotland in 2022 (EDIT: it would appear they have already been in Scotland this year, sorry! I must've been reading an inaccurate website, but bear in mind I only had 3 minutes of research before jumping in the van, so please forgive me!). On the way, I discover a lighthouse museum with access right up into the workings of an engineering masterpiece, (and a demo thrown in as well). A boring day was well and truly flipped on its head - join me on this last-minute mini adventure :)

Filmed on location in Fraserburgh and Peterhead on Wed 20th July 2022.
