10. Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in Andalucia in the south east of Spain. They are the country's tallest mountains, rising to over 3000 metres. The highest peak is Mulhacén at 3,479 m. It is a popular tourist destination, as its high peaks make skiing possible in one of Europe's most southerly ski resorts, in an area along the Mediterranean Sea predominantly known for its warm temperatures and abundant sunshine.
9. Donana National Park
Doñana National Park is a natural reserve in Andalusia, in the provinces of Huelva and Seville. The park is an area of marshes, shallow streams, and sand dunes in Las Marismas, the delta where the Guadalquivir River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It was established as a nature reserve in 1969 when the World Wildlife Fund joined with the Spanish government and purchased a section of marshes to protect it.
8. Baeza & Ubeda
Baeza is a town of approximately 16,200 inhabitants in Andalusia, in the province of Jaén, perched on a cliff in the Loma de Úbeda, a mountain range between the river Guadalquivir on the south and its tributary the Guadalimar on the north. It is chiefly known today as having many of the best-preserved examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in Spain.
7. Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol (literally sun coast) is a long stretch of Mediterranean coastline in the Andalucia region of southern Spain. The Costa del Sol stretches for over 150 km, for 54 km east of Malaga, and as far as the provincial border of Cadiz, some 100 km south west of the city.
6. Ronda
Ronda is a town in Malaga in Spain. Set in and around a deep gorge spanned by an impressive bridge, the relaxing atmosphere here is a great break from some of the more tourist-ridden places on the south coast of Spain, however it can still be packed with day-trippers from the Costa del Sol, especially during the peak summer months.
5. Cádiz
Cádiz is on a narrow slice of land surrounded by the sea. The older part of Cadiz, within the remnants of the city walls, is commonly referred to as the Old Town. It is characterised by the antiquity of its various quarters, among them El Pópulo, La Viña, and Santa María, which present a marked contrast to the newer areas of town. While the Old City's street plan consists of narrow winding alleys connecting large plazas, newer areas of Cadiz typically have wide avenues and more modern buildings.
4. Cordoba City & La Mezquite
Very few places in the world can boast of having been the capital of a Roman province (Hispania Ulterior), the capital of an Arab State (Al-Andalus) and a Caliphate. Such splendor is palpable in the intellectual wealth of this city, that has seen the birth of figures like Seneca, Averroes, and Maimonides. The historic quarter of Córdoba is a beautiful network of small streets, alleys, squares and whitewashed courtyards arranged around the Mezquita, which reflects the city's prominent place in the Islamic world during medieval times.
3. Real Alcázar, Seville
A beautiful palace in Mudéjar (Moorish) style, built in the XIV Century by Pedro I the Cruel. With its myriad rooms, extravagant architecture, lavish gardens with many courtyards, ponds and secrets to be explored, it is a fascinating place to visit. Be sure to check out the room where Christopher Columbus's journey to the Americas were planned.
2. Seville Cathedral and La Giralda
Once judged the third largest church in the world after Saint Peter's in Rome and Saint Paul's in London, this is now arguably the largest church in the world when compared using the measurement of volume. The fifteenth-century cathedral occupies the site of the former great mosque built in the late twelfth century. The central nave rises to an awesome 37m over a total area of 11,520m².

UN PASEO POR BAEZA (ANDALUCIA)-- PRIMERA PARTE
Baeza es un municipio de España, la ciudad capital de dicho municipio y cabeza del partido judicial homónimo. Se encuentra en el mismo centro geográfico de la provincia de Jaén (en el noreste de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía) enclavada en la comarca de La Loma de la que se considera su capital occidental.
En la actualidad es conocida por su ingente producción olivarera, su abundante legado monumental (habiendo sido declarada en 2003, junto a Úbeda, ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco),2 y por ser sede universitaria desde el siglo XVI, albergando hoy día una de las sedes de la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía.
Denominada Nido Real de Gavilanes por el romancero, fue un punto clave en la conquista de al-Ándalus por los reyes cristianos; pasando definitivamente al reino de Castilla en 1227. Atalaya sobre el Guadalquivir, la posesión de su alcázar (considerado como inexpugnable) aseguró la retaguardia castellana, la vez que supuso una amenaza constante para los reinos islámicos situados al oeste y al sur del Guadalquivir; una amenaza que se hizo efectiva durante los más de dos siglos de lucha fronteriza que separaron la incorporación de Baeza al reino de Castilla y la caída del reino nazarí de Granada (1492).
Durante el período de gran crecimiento demográfico y económico que supuso la mayor parte del siglo XVI, y aún en parte del XVII, Baeza construyó sus edificios públicos y administrativos con alto sentido de capitalidad y con la más alta dignidad, conformando así, junto con las construcciones eclesiásticas, un tejido urbano caracterizado por una monumentalidad que ha dado a la ciudad un encanto especial a los ojos del visitante.

Baeza formerly also written as Baéza, is an Andalusian town in the province of Jaén in southern Spain. It lies perched on a cliff in the Loma de Úbeda, the range separating the Guadalquivir River to its south from the Guadalimar to its north. It is now principally famed for having some of the best-preserved examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in Spain. Along with Úbeda, it was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2003. The former Visigothic bishopric of Baeza remains a Latin Catholic titular see.
The former Baeza Cathedral is built over a former mosque. It was first used in Christian service in the 12th century during Castile's first period of rule. It was then used as a mosque before its reconquest in the 13th century. The most ancient parts are the cubic base of the bell tower and three (presently hidden) Islamic arches. Most of the present Renaissance-influenced Gothic structure—including the nave with two aisles, pilasters, and crossed vaults—dates to around 1529. The tower was redone in 1549 and the Chapel of St Michael was added in 1560. Construction was completed under Andrés de Vandelvira.
Town Hall (Ayuntamiento), a Plateresque building originally built as a combined courthouse and prison, leading to two separate main entrances. Baeza University, established in 1533. Santa Cruz Church, a Romanesque church with a two-aisle nave and semicircular apse. A side wall incorporates a Visigothic arch. St Paul's Church, a Gothic church with a Renaissance portal with a two-aisle nave and Gothic chapels. Includes the tomb of Pablo de Olavide.
Baeza is 327 km (203 mi) south of Madrid by highway. The Linares–Baeza RENFE railway station is 15 km (9 mi) away to the southwest; it lies on the Linares-Almeria line. There are bus connections to Granada, Málaga, and Madrid. Granada (132 km or 82 mi) and Málaga (241 km or 150 mi) are the nearest international airports.

Baeza is a city and municipality in Spain, in the province of Jaén. It is integrated in the region of La Loma and is the head of the judicial district of Baeza.
On July 3, 2003, UNESCO declared the Renaissance monumental ensembles of Úbeda and Baeza a World Heritage Site.
Baeza is an agro-city , where olive cultivation is the largest generator of wealth and employment, since at least 47% of the active population works in the agricultural sector.
Within the tertiary sector, thanks to its status as a Renaissance monumental complex, a World Heritage Site, it has 10 hotel establishments and the service sector is favored, not only by tourism, but also by the existence of the Academy of Guards and NCOs.

Baeza in the province of Jaen, Andalucia, is an essential destination which evokes other times, famous for its Renaissance architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Due to the pandemic, access to restaurants, sites and the museum was limited or not possible with altered opening hours, or closed all together. Also, taking in Baeza in one single day may put limits to what is feasable.

Baeza is in the province of Jaen in the region of Andalucia. Famous for its Renaissance architecture, Baeza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Baeza is just 11 km from Úbeda, another fabulous Renaissance town (which will be featured in my next video).
Baeza is a beautiful historic town full of Renaissance architecture and surrounded by groves of olive trees. It is situated on the edge of the National Park of Cazorla which is one of the most spectacular National Parks in Spain. Baeza was once a Moorish town and was the first in Andalucia to be reconquered in 1226. A period of great wealth followed and a beautiful medieval town was constructed.
The highlights of Baeza include: Plaza Mayor at the heart of Baeza is two plazas together and the Plaza de la Contitucion with a garden at one end and the Plaza de Espana at the other. Around the square are lots of fine buildings including 'La Alhondiga', the old corn exchange with its triple tier arches. Next to the Plaza Mayor is the Plaza del Pópulo where the tourist office is sited in a Plateresque palace called the Casa del Pópulo. Pick up a map in the tourist office to make sure you dont miss any of Baeza's sights (if not closed due to the pandemic).
At the Plaza del Pópulo is also the Puerta de Jaen y Arco de Villalar, a stone gateway into the historical part of the city. The Cathedral at the Plaza Santa Maria was built in the 16th century and has an attractive cloister where part of the mosque, which originally stood here, can be seen. In the cathedral is a choir screen by Bartolme, one of the masters of this style.
There are many Renaissance mansions in Baeza and one of the best is the Palacio de Jabalquinto. It has a Renaissance courtyard and Baroque staircase. Its courtyard is open to visitors most days and it is part of the University of Andalucia, meaning you can just walk in and have a look. However, it was closed due to pandemic restrictions when making this video.
One of the dominant buildings in Baeza is the Antigua Universidad which was one of Spain's main universities between 1542-1825. It has fine Renaissance and Baroque styles and is used still as the summer school for Granada university.
Near Plaza de Espana one will find the town hall with its Plateresque style and is two buildings joined together by an arch.The cathedral and the heart of the old town are slightly to the south around the Plaza de Santa Maria. From the city walls you get some nice views over the surrounding countryside.
As the equally stunning Renaissance town of Úbeda, Baeza sits on the edge of a beautiful National Park, the Parque Natural de Cazorla. This park has stunning mountainous scenery and lovely wooded river valleys. Cazorla will be feature in a video here after Úbeda.

Baeza is a quiet place. So quiet that you can hear the wind blow around the buildings, and how different footsteps sound on cobbled streets. It is surrounded by a vast plain of olive trees and its maze of streets leads to a historic quarter conserving centuries of history in its architecture. It is a Comunidad autónoma (autonomous community) of Andalusia in southern Spain.
Úbeda is about 10 km northeast of the city of Jaén.

The Arabs occupied the city in 711 CE.
Ferdinand III of Castile reconquered it in 1234.
Ubeda is renowned for its architecture, particularly of the Renaissance period.
Most of Ubeda is a national monument, and UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site in 2003.
The church of Santa María de Los Reales Alcázares de Úbeda sits on a sacred place, built atop the remains of a mosque. The oldest parts of the church were built around 1259.

In a well-watered olive-growing region, Úbeda produces olive oil and olive-pressing equipment.
This is the library of El Palacio Vela de los Cobos. This stately manor was designed in 1551. Our tour guide was the son of the owner of the palace. He's lived for decades in Houston, TX, but now that his dad is in his 90s, he plans to return to take care of the house.
The Holy Funerary Chapel of El Salvador del Mundo is a symbol of Úbeda, Jaén. It was designated a historic-artistic monument in 1931.

Tiny Tour | Úbeda Spain | A quick visit to a World Heritage Site town in Jaén | 2021 Oct
Úbeda is a town in the province of Jaén in Spain's autonomous community of Andalusia, inhabitants. Both this city and the neighbouring city of Baeza benefited from extensive patronage in the early 16th century resulting in the construction of a series of Renaissance style palaces and churches, which have been preserved ever since. In 2003, UNESCO declared the historic cores and monuments of these two towns a World Heritage Site.
The archaeological findings indicate a pre-Roman settlement at Úbeda, such as argaric and iberic remains. The capital of the iberic state was called Iltiraka and was located over the Guadalquivir River, 10 km south of the actual site of the town. Romans and later Visigoths occupied the site as a settlement.
The city is near the geographic centre of the province of Jaén, and it is the administrative seat of the surrounding Loma de Úbeda comarca. It is one of the region's most important settlements, boasting a regional hospital, university bachelor's degree in education college, distance-learning facilities, local government facilities, social security offices, and courts. According to the Caixa yearbook, it is the economic hub of a catchment area with a population of 200,000 inhabitants. Twenty-nine percent of employment is in the service sector.

The Renaissance Monumental towns of Úbeda and Baeza are the best-preserved examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in Spain. Both towns developed a certain wealth in the 16th century and competed with each other in the design of Renaissance buildings.
In Úbeda, the aristocratic families where the driving forces. While in Baeza (8 kms away) the town council ordered fabulous public works. The Spanish architect Andrés de Vandelvira was responsible for the design of buildings in both towns.

In the background is are Villalar Arch (Arco de Villalar). along with the Jaen Gate, as well as remnants of the old city wall built by the Moors when they had control of Baéza, Spain. Located in the southern area of Spain known as Andalusia, many other notable structures are found in and around the plaza, all within very easy walking distance; they are the among the reasons that this town is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

On the day of filming, Úbeda’s center old town was under transformation from road to pedestrian. In the future, one part of this drive through will no longer allow cars to enter.
Úbeda is a town in the province of Jaén in Spain's autonomous community of Andalusia, inhabitants. Both this city and the neighbouring city of Baeza benefited from extensive patronage in the early 16th century resulting in the construction of a series of Renaissance style palaces and churches, which have been preserved ever since. In 2003, UNESCO declared the historic cores and monuments of these two towns a World Heritage Site.
The archaeological findings indicate a pre-Roman settlement at Úbeda, such as argaric and iberic remains. The capital of the iberic state was called Iltiraka and was located over the Guadalquivir River, 10 km south of the actual site of the town. Romans and later Visigoths occupied the site as a settlement.
The city is near the geographic centre of the province of Jaén, and it is the administrative seat of the surrounding Loma de Úbeda comarca. It is one of the region's most important settlements, boasting a regional hospital, university bachelor's degree in education college, distance-learning facilities, local government facilities, social security offices, and courts.
According to the Caixa yearbook, it is the economic hub of a catchment area with a population of 200,000 inhabitants. Twenty-nine percent of employment is in the service sector.

Úbeda and Baeza are situated in the very heart of the province of Jaén, and are fine examples of all the grandeur of the Renaissance in Andalusia in the 16th and 17th centuries. They are unique examples of the arrival of Renaissance trends in Spain, as you will see from their streets packed with churches, palaces and stately houses.

Take a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Andalucia.
