Zwickau and Schneeberg in Saxony | Destination Culture: Hannah Hummel on Tour in Germany
The city of Zwickau in eastern Germany has a long and varied history of car production and industrial design. Its story is told in the August Horch Museum – beginning with the production of Horch cars, to Audis, to the East German car, the Trabant. On her trip to Zwickau, Hannah Hummel discovers the city’s car history, as well as its art and cultural history. Both the composer Robert Schumann and the expressionist painter and printmaker Max Pechstein were born in Zwickau. This episode of Destination Culture also takes viewers to Schneeberg – a creative hub in Saxony, where students from around the world study fashion and textile design.

Это город Цвиккау, который расположен в земле Саксония, Германия.
Население его составляет менее 100тыс человек.
Но несмотря на его скромные размеры здесь есть что посмотреть.
И конечно же визитной карточкой будет центр города, его исторический центр.
Почти все достопримечательности так или иначе связаны с музыкой, а точнее с Шуманом. Всё потому, что он здесь родился.
Поэтому лучше прогуляться по тропе Шумана, которая проходит по всем историческим местам города. На это вы потратите не более 2-3 часов.

Winterwanderung vom kältesten Ort Deutschlands - Kühnhaide
Fahren wir also los zur Winterwanderung und um den kältesten Ort Deutschlands zu suchen und, liebe Freunde, wer geglaubt hat, jetzt geht es Richtung Alpen, der liegt völlig schief. Wir fahren ....genau, nach Kühnhaide bei Marienberg, und dort finden wir ihn nämlich, den kältesten Ort Deutschlands - Kühnhaide. An der Gaststätte zum Schwarzwassertal beginnt unsere Tour. Wer meine Touren regelmäßig verfolgt, der kann sich sicherlich daran erinnern, hier sind wir bereits einmal gelaufen, als wir versucht haben heraus zu finden, welches die schönste Wanderung im Erzgebirge ist. Heute wollen wir jedoch in eine andere Richtung laufen. In Richtung Rübenau, die genaue Tour will ich heute allerdings nicht beschreiben, dass hole ich in einem späteren Film nach. Lasst euch heute einfach von den schönen Winterimpressionen begeistern und verwöhnen.
Wenn ihr Spaß an unserer Winterwanderung hattet, dann würde ich mich natürlich über einen Daumen nach oben bzw über ein Abo freuen. Zwickau is a city located in the eastern part of Germany in the state of Saxony. Zwickau is the fourth-largest city of Saxony after Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz that we all visited here on POPtravel.
Zwickau has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when it was an important trading center. Today, Zwickau is a medium-sized city with a population of around 90,000 people. It was also a center of the German textile industry during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The notable German composer Robert Schuman was born in the house on the corner of Zwickau's main market square in 1810.
We start our walking tour right at the Robert Schuman monument. As we walk through the city, we will see both the historical and modern aspects of Zwickau. There are many beautiful buildings in the city center, such as the Gothic-style St. Mary's Church, which dates back to the 15th century, and the Renaissance-style town hall, which was built in the 16th century.
We circle the city center, get out to the Schwanenteichpark in the western side of the city. Walking back to the city center we also see some street art. Our tour leads again through the city's streets towards to the Zwickauer Mulde on the eastern side of the city center. We walk a bit on the Muldenpromenade before we end our tour near our starting point - at Zwickau's market square.

The German-American Steuben Parade is held annually on the third Saturday in September. It was founded in 1957 by German immigrants and German-Americans — one of the largest ancestral groups living in the United States, who wanted to keep the traditions of their homeland alive. They named the Parade after Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian-born General who served with General George Washington in the American Revolutionary War. Von Steuben is still regarded as one of the most influential German-Americans for his contributions to America’s fight for independence; his training of the young American troops helped achieve victory against the British.
In April, 1956, the German-American Parade was first held in Ridgewood, Queens, on the 50th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Boys and Girls Chorus. Being a weekend celebration, it began with a concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and concluded the following day with the Parade down Myrtle Ave., ending with a gala celebration at Schwaben Hall on Knickerbocker Ave. The outpouring of support for this event from the many clubs and businesses who participated, inspired the idea for a parade celebrating German culture to be held annually in New York City.
In 1957, the first official German-American Steuben Parade was held in Yorkville, known then as Germantown. The Parade marched up Fifth Ave., turning on 86th St, and crossed down to Second Ave. to cheering crowds and applause. Once the heart of Little Germany, 86th Street was affectionately called the “German Boulevard.” It hosted many German shops, konditoreis, biergartens, vereins, theaters, restaurants, newspapers, and dance halls.
2014-Parade-Fotos-CR-408Today, the Parade continues to march up Fifth Avenue to 86th Street, led by cadets representing the German Language Club of the Military Academy of West Point, founded by General von Steuben himself. The three-hour Parade is filled with German groups wearing their traditional costumes, spectacular floats, marching bands, dancers, clubs, and organizations from across the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Canada. Miss German-America and her court are crowned every May, leading the Parade down Fifth Avenue after serving as young cultural ambassadors to events throughout the year across the Tri-State Area. Every year, the Parade is led by a Grand Marshal, who is chosen through his or her reputation and contributions to the German-American community. Past Grand Marshals have included distinguished German-Americans, as well as German citizens with a close relationship to our country. To this day, the Steuben Parade is still considered one of the most colorful Parades in New York, thanks to our dynamic floats, representation, and colorful cultural displays.
