SCOTLAND TRAVEL (2023) | 10 Beautiful Places To Visit In Scotland (+ Itinerary Suggestions!)

Scotland is the most northerly part of the four areas that make up the United Kingdom. It’s known for rugged landscapes defined by mysterious lochs, magical mountains, and gothic castles. Scotland also has a strong culture featuring Celtic music, traditional kilts, and sophisticated whiskies. In this video, we show 10 of the best places to visit in Scotland.

10. Edinburgh
Edinburgh is located in the south-east and it’s Scotland’s most beautiful and interesting city. This is the place to take in the unique Scottish culture, with a vibrant pub scene and intriguing historic sites.

???? Watch Edinburgh Video:

9. Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
Situated approximately 60 miles or 96 kilometers to the west of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond & the Trassachs National Park is the oldest national park in Scotland. It’s one of the most popular places to visit thanks to its proximity to urban areas as well as a wide variety of activities.

☑️ Boat tour Loch Lomond:

8. Glencoe Valley
Glencoe Valley is located in the Scottish Highlands in western Scotland. The area is known for its impressive mountain scenery, beautiful waterfalls, and trails that climb steep peaks, such as the Pap of Glencoe.

7. Glen Nevis
Located right outside the town Fort William, Glen Nevis is one of the most spectacular and beautiful glens in the Highlands. Above all, it’s home to Britain’s highest mountain: Ben Nevis, which is an impressive day hike.

6. Glenfinnan Viaduct
Only a stone's throw away from Glen Nevis and Fort William, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is a must-visit in Scotland! Made famous in the Harry Potter films, this 21-arched viaduct is set amongst some of Scotland’s finest scenery!

5. Inverness
Inverness is the northernmost city in the United Kingdom and is regarded as the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. Similar to Edinburgh, the city has a fantastic pub scene with great live music in the evenings.

???? Watch Inverness & Loch Ness Video:

4. Loch Ness
Located only a short drive from Inverness, Loch Ness is one of the most famous places in all of Scotland. The legend of the monster called Nessie goes back to ancient times.

3. Eilean Donan Castle
The Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world for a good reason. It’s perfectly situated on a small island with a charming curved bridge connecting it to the mainland.

2. Old Man of Storr (Isle of Skye)
Skye is the second largest island in Scotland and in our opinion, it has the most picturesque views you’ll encounter on your trip. The Old Man of Storr is the most iconic sight on the island and attracts many hikers and tourists alike.

1. Quiraing (Isle of Skye)
Quiraing is located on the Northern end of the Isle of Skye and boasts some of the best natural views in all of Scotland. The jagged landscape was caused by a landslip, which exposed strange rock formations underneath a large cliff.

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England
Often referred to as the Garden of England due to its endless acres of orchards and lush gardens, the county of Kent offers no end of fun things to do for those willing to wander a little further off the beaten track.

Not only is Kent well-known for its relatively mild climate, it also boasts some of England's oldest and most important historic attractions. It was in Kent that the Romans launched their invasion of England some 55 years before the birth of Christ, and where, over 500 years later, the Christian faith was first introduced to the island nation. As a result of these events, you'll often find Roman ruins brushing up against important religious sites, as is the case in the cathedral city of Canterbury.

Kent also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in England. Visit the east coast of Kent, and you'll see the famous White Cliffs of Dover looking out towards neighboring France, visible in the distance. This same coastline is home to some 50 or more Kentish beaches, most of them easy day trips from London.

Audley End House & Gardens

Situated not far from Safron Walden in North Essex, Audley End is considered to be one of the finest Jacobean houses in the UK. Build on the foundations of Walden Abbey, a Benedictine monastery established in the 12th century. When the Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1538 it was granted to his loyal supporter Sir Thomas Audley (1487 - 1544)

Throughout the centuries since it has passed through various prominent families until its last sitting owner Richard Neville, later 3rd Earl Braybrooke, took on the mantle and upkeep of the house and its grounds in 1820.

It was in 1948, after being used as the headquarters of the Polish section of the Special Operations Executive, that the house was bought for the nation from Lord Braybrook.

Audley End House

This time we are in Essex for the History Roadshow, today visiting Audley End House and Gardens.

Audley End House is one of the great historic stately Jacobean homes in England. In the past its fortunes, like those of its owners have been chequered. Audley End is situated among rolling hills in Essex about a mile from the old market town of Saffron Walden.

The first record of a building here dates back to 1136 when Geoffrey de Mandeville, Earl of Essex founded a priory, the monks being of the Benedictine order. When Henry VIII started the downfall of monasteries across the country Walden Abbey as it was known succumbed to the same fate.

Thomas Audley who was Henry's lord chancellor was given the estate, upon his death the abbey had been converted into a manor house.

The estate eventually passed to Thomas Howard the 4th Duke of Norfolk, reports suggested Thomas had spent 100,000 pounds but all documents were destroyed. He was accused of accepting bribes from Spain, rumours spread in the county that Audley End was built from Spanish gold.

Audley End House has much to offer, as you walk around you'll find other captivating displays, shops where you can buy souvenirs or grab a bite to eat at the Servants hall tea room or for lighter snacks step into the Cart yard café. There's also a visitor centre to guide you in the right direction.

Thousands of people visit this place every year, wonderful gardens, inspiring designs, great open spaces and a house that has become a national treasure. A masterpiece with a long and colourful history, Audley End will surprise, enthral and fascinate you with its ability to bring the world from another era back to life. So for a magnificent, enchanting day out take a trip to Audley End House.

My travels in the USA with Audley Travel – The Deep South

Catherine from Audley’s Concierge team visited the USA’s Deep South on a recent exploratory trip. Her itinerary included a steamboat trip in New Orleans and a chance to experience the buzz of the city's historic French Quarter. Audley End House and Gardens (England)

Tour of Audley End House and Gardens - 26/5/18

Music by Peter Phillips

Audley End House (grid reference TL524381) is a largely early 17th-century country house outside Saffron Walden, Essex, England. It was once a prodigy house, a palace in all but name and renowned as one of the finest Jacobean houses in England. Audley End is now one-third of its original size, but is still large, with much to enjoy in its architectural features and varied collections. It is currently in the stewardship of English Heritage and long remained the family seat of the Lords Braybrooke.
