25 Things to do in Madrid, Spain | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:

Hola y bienvenidos a Madrid. This week we are in the Spanish capital and we are going to show you twenty five of the best things to do in the city.

Final thoughts on your time in Madrid. Well, I really enjoyed the city. And I really found that it is super walk-able. We were here for 10 days and we hardly had to take the metro at all. We just took the bus once when we were visiting the stadium but the rest of the time we were able to walk wherever we needed to go. And also I think it is a great city for art lovers. There are so many galleries and museums to check out. And a lot of them are free in the evening. So keep that in mind.

And now it is your turn. What did you think of Madrid? You know what? I absolutely loved Madrid. It is a city that just really clicked with me. We have a lot of friends that are living here long term and prior to coming here I had no idea like why would someone want to come to Madrid? Now I totally get it. I love the culture, I love the food, I love the nightlife. Everything is really cheap. I go to the grocery store and I can get a one liter thing of wine for just over a Euro. It is just a really affordable fun city to be in. And it is somewhere I hope I have a chance to come back to again soon.

And that is a wrap of our time in Madrid! We had a splendid time and were truly sad to say goodbye to the city, but that just means we'll have to come back again. If you have any travel tips for Madrid, feel free to share those in the comments below.

This is part of our Travel in Spain series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Spanish culture, Spanish arts, Spanish foods, Spanish religion, Spanish cuisine and Spanish people.

The ugliest provincial capitals of Spain

List about the ugliest provincial capitals of Spain

This is my humble homage to the controlled blasting of the Napoleonic invasions, Franco's patriotic developmentalism, Moneo's cubic vision and the brick-and-mortar political capital gains that have helped to change the face of our cities. By including only provincial capitals I assume the unfairness of leaving out Navalmoral de la Mata, Arganda del Rey, Ponferrada, Azuqueca de Henares, Torrelavega, Puertollano and many others that should have their deserved position of honor. If one of the latter is your city do not worry, you will have the opportunity to vote in future lists: city with more unemployment, city with more accused, city with more emigration Murcia ... To vote!

In this list about the ugliest provincial capitals of Spain you can find:

Nestled in the heart of Madrid, the National Archaeological Museum (Museo Arqueológico Nacional) stands as a guardian of Spain's rich and diverse history. This cultural institution is a window into the past, offering visitors a fascinating journey through the ages, from prehistoric times to the Renaissance. Join us as we embark on a captivating exploration of the National Archaeological Museum, uncovering its treasures, historical significance, and the wonders that await within its walls.

Architectural Splendor: The National Archaeological Museum is housed in a majestic neoclassical building that itself is a masterpiece of architecture. Designed by architect Francisco Jareño and completed in 1867, the museum's elegant façade beckons visitors to step inside and discover the wonders within.

A Timeless Collection: The museum's vast collection spans millennia, offering a comprehensive view of Spain's history and its connections to other civilizations. From prehistoric artifacts to Roman treasures, Islamic art, and medieval splendors, the museum's exhibits showcase the nation's cultural richness.

Iberian Peninsula Unveiled: One of the museum's most significant focuses is the Iberian Peninsula's history, with a particular emphasis on the pre-Roman and Roman periods. Visitors can explore archaeological finds from ancient Iberian settlements, such as sculptures, ceramics, and jewelry.

The Hall of Prehistory: A journey through time begins in the Hall of Prehistory, where ancient fossils, tools, and artifacts reveal the lives of early humans who inhabited the Iberian Peninsula. This section offers a glimpse into the Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age periods.

The Roman World: The museum's Roman collection is extensive and impressive, with beautifully preserved mosaics, sculptures, and everyday objects from the Roman era in Spain. The Roman section also explores the Romanization of the Iberian Peninsula.

The Islamic Legacy: A significant part of Spain's history is its Islamic heritage, and the museum's collection reflects this beautifully. Visitors can admire Islamic art, ceramics, and architectural fragments that tell the tale of Al-Andalus, the medieval Islamic territory in Spain.

Medieval Marvels: The medieval period comes to life with an array of artifacts, including Gothic and Mozarabic art, religious sculptures, and illuminated manuscripts. These exhibits offer insight into the rich tapestry of Spanish medieval history.

A Journey Through Time: As you traverse the museum's halls, you'll encounter displays on topics as diverse as numismatics, ethnography, and Spain's colonial history. Each section adds another layer to the complex narrative of Spain's past.

The Lady of Elche: Among the museum's most famous treasures is the Lady of Elche, an enigmatic Iberian bust believed to date back to the 4th century BCE. This iconic artifact is a symbol of the region's cultural heritage.

Educational Outreach: The National Archaeological Museum is not just a repository of historical artifacts; it's also a hub of education and research. The museum conducts outreach programs, lectures, and workshops to engage visitors of all ages in the wonders of archaeology.

Exhibition Spaces: The museum's exhibition spaces are thoughtfully designed to provide a captivating and immersive experience. As you wander through its galleries, you'll be transported to different epochs, witnessing the evolution of cultures and civilizations.

Plan Your Visit: When planning a visit to the National Archaeological Museum, it's advisable to check the museum's official website for the latest information on opening hours, ticket prices, and any temporary exhibitions or special events.

The National Archaeological Museum of Madrid is not just a repository of historical artefacts; it's a portal to Spain's rich and diverse past.
