Visiting the birthplace of Marquez,Macondoof A Hundred Years of Solitude?

I shared my experience of visiting the birth place of Garcia Marquez with my local friend Brandon,we travelled from Santa Marta to there(Aracataca)by bus.(2021.04.29)

From Santa Marta to Aracataca, you can take local bus every hour in working time of everyday,it cost 10000 pesos to 15000 pesos.

Macondo Exists in Real Life?! ????????

You may have read about Gabriel García Márquez's fictional town of Macondo in some of his famous books such as One Hundred Years of Solitude, but what if I told you that this town isn't entirely fictional?

Lost City Trek Colombia Video, Photos and What to See and Expect

For more stories, tips and information about our Life Redesign or Travel Inspiration you can find them at:

The Lost City Trek Colombia (also known as the Ciudad Perdida) is an incredible journey that takes you through diverse, ever-changing landscapes and scenery. The trip allows you to connect with the indigenous people as you get to see their local cultures and way of life. Moreover, it gives you a history lesson about the extinct Teyruna people.

After four months of living in Colombia, we couldn’t wait to start the hike before we planned to leave the country three weeks later. We booked the four-day trip of Magic Tour Colombia that begins in Santa Marta. We recommend Via Colombia travel services if you plan to book all your travel arrangements (including this tour) in just one go.

If you are traveling to Colombia and are still trying to figure out how to fit all the places of interest you want to visit, including this trek, within your timeframe, here are some sample itineraries that can help you organize your trip.

Probably, just like us, you want to prepare yourself for a hike, especially if it’s a four-day commitment into the jungles of Colombia. When we had the opportunity to do the Ciudad Perdida trek, we needed more information to have a preview of what’s to come.

Our questions about the Lost City Trek Colombia included:

What would we see during our hike?
Or would this compare to the Inca Trail in Peru?
Would it be worth doing the hike at all?
And how should we prepare for the hike, both physically and mentally?

What you need to know:

Don't compare Ciudad Perdida to Macchu Picchu.

a) One might think that two hikes to an ancient lost city in South America would be similar to one another. However, they are quite different. Although these hikes are both approximately 45km in distance and you “discover” the locality during your trek, the respective journeys are very distinct.

b) The Cuidad Perdida’s highlight is the dramatic scenic views and the transforming views of nature on your way to the lost city. The ruins are fascinating, along with the stories of the Teyruna people in Colombia, but it is the entire journey that takes the spotlight. Whereas the Inca trail, although it is a beautiful hike, is less diverse yet leads to the awe-inspiring ruins of Macchu Picchu. Interestingly, the Colombian ruins were only discovered in 1970 and were believed to have been built 600 years before the Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu in Peru, which was found in 1911.

c) The Lost City Colombia Trek begins from a lower altitude, so you don’t need to acclimatize before you start nor deal with the effects of altitude sickness. Its highest point, the Teyuna ruins, is 1,200m (3937 ft). The entire trek altitude is 900 meters to 1,200 meters. On the Inca Trail, the highest point (The Dead Woman’s Pass) is 4,200 m (13,800 ft). What a big difference!

d) The Lost City Colombia requires that you carry your own pack for the entire journey. Unlike in the Inca Trail, porters carry the majority of your belongings, and you are only required to carry items that you need for the day. So, planning appropriately for the Lost City trek is essential. (See link on post for packing recommendations.)

Bogota Travel Guide - Colombia Experience Of Joy

Santa Marta is a city in the Magdalena Department of Colombia's Costa Norte. It is 992 km from Bogotá and 93 km from Barranquilla. It is bordered to the north and west by the Caribbean and to the south by the municipalities of Aracataca and Ciénaga. Santa Marta an important commercial port and tourist destination. Every day, there are cargo ships coming and going and the action is very much so visible. From the beach, the view of the Caribbean Sea is more or less to the west (beautiful sunsets) with a huge rock of an island jutting up out of the water to make a somewhat dramatic effect. Off to the right is the port snug behind another even bigger rock. This is a decent beach if you like beaches that are right in town with lots of people, aggressive vendors, and plenty of noise.

Aside from the old center, the main attractions of Santa Marta are its two resort-like suburbs El Rodadero, to the south, and Taganga, to the north. El Rodadero has several high-end hotels and private clubs that cater mostly to wealthy Colombians, whereas Taganga was originally a fishing village and is very popular with (mostly foreign) backpackers. Taganga has many scuba-diving agencies. There is a high season and low season. High season is December through April, with its peak from mid-december to late January (due to school and university vacations).

On the beaches (in Rodadero or sometimes Santa Marta), you can usually rent a jet ski in increments of 10 minutes. If you are not comfortable operating one, you can usually ask for a ride around. Life jackets are provided. You will find that the further away you get from the population centres, the cleaner the beaches are.

Minca is a small village 650m above Santa Marta reached in a 7000 peso colectivo via a 45 min bumpy mountain road from Estacion de Minca en Calle 11 con 12 en el mercado publico de Santa Marta. Birdwatching at the world famous El Dorado, a bird reserve brimming with natural treasures.

Paso Del Mango is a tiny village in the Sierra Nevada mountains located on an old Tayrona civilization. 50 min from Santa Marta. There are plenty of waterfalls, natural pools, endemic animal and plant species and a range of hikes to make. Daytrips are possible. There are several possibilities to sleep and eat. Off the beaten track paradise. La Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) are ancient indigenous ruins that predate Macchu Picchu. Visiting takes a 4-6 days hike (roundtrip). You must go with a tour company due to indigenous land protection.

Tayrona National Park. edit Protected land reserve containing some of the most beautiful beaches and jungle area. Accessible by public buses located in the market in the center of Santa Marta (you do not need to go to the main bus terminal).

There are a lot of eating options. They seem to be good at roasting and grilling chicken. They do a good job of grilling beef tough but flavorful. Seafood is plentiful and relatively inexpensive lots of shrimp and seafood cocktail vendors. Most varieties of fruit are available even what is more common to cold climates. At night street vendors sell all types of snacks pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, shakes, kabobs, rice in milk with coco, fried stuffed doughy things, etc.. Coffee, hot chocolate, and both hot cinnamon and lemon is omni-present.

( Santa Marta - Colombia ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Santa Marta. Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Santa Marta - Colombia

Nevado del Ruiz and the Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados

Los Nevados National Park lies in Colombia's Cordillera Central mountain range, around 150km south of the city of Medellin. It rises to just over 5,000m and is surrounded by páramo, the high-altitude grassland characterised by damp, windy conditions, tall paja grass and unusual plant species.

Most of the mountains in Los Nevados are volcanic. The highest, Nevado del Ruiz (5,325m) is still active and was subject to a devastating eruption in 1985 that killed over 20,000 people. This video follows an acclimatisation hike south of Ruiz to the pleasant lake of Laguna Otun.
