Uzbekistan travel day one - Arriving in Andijan after crossing the border

My Uzbekistan travel day one started after crossing the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border at the Dostuk checkpoint close to the city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan. I finally managed to step into the Uzbek territory after checking my passport, visa, and doing a quick security check of my belongings. From there I took a marshrutka to Andijan (or Andijon) which is the first city you are supposed to land in after the border crossing and on your way to the capital city Tashkent.

Ferghana is the largest city in the Ferghana region. It is located in its southern part on the border with Kyrgyzstan. Ferghana was founded in the second half of the 19th century.

안디잔 마스타바 맛집, 블라디보스톡 오쉬하나(Vladivostok Oshxona at Andijon, Uzbekistan)

마스타바 맛집으로 소문난 블라디보스톡 오쉬하나를 방문했다. 지난 여행에서 맛보지 못한 아쉬움을 달래기 위해 이른 새벽 숙소를 나섰다. 이 식당은 새벽에 문을 열고 오후면 문을 닫는다고 한다. 어둠 속을 달려 온 이곳은 이미 개점한 상태였고 넓은 식당에는 서넛 팀의 손님들이 띄엄띄엄 앉아 있었다. 지금 주문할 수 있는 메뉴는 마스타바 한 가지 뿐이고, 라그만은 10시가 되어야 주문할 수 있다고 한다.

주방 옆 카운터에서 마스타바를 주문하면 오픈 주방에서 마스타바를 한 그릇씩 담아준다. 수즈마(요거트), 매운 토마토소스, 향신료 등 준비된 소스를 고명으로 올려서 자신의 테이블로 가져오면 된다.

진한 육수맛의 마스타바는 영어로 'Rice soup'이라고 하는데 우리나라(한국)의 국밥과 거의 흡사하다고 할 수 있다. 다만 쌀알의 양이 좀 적을 뿐이고 조리법이 우리는 지은 밥을 넣고 만드는데 마스타바는 생쌀로 조리한다는 점이 다르다고 할 수 있다. 또한 이 식당의 특징이라고 할수 있는 것은 신선로에 들어가는 작고 둥근 고기완자, 모리(김숙년 선생님은 완자를 그렇게 부르심) 정도의 모양과 크기로 들어간다. 깊고 진한 육수와 진주처럼 섞여있는 하얀 쌀알 사이로 위풍당당한 흑진주의 자태로 있는 고기완자는 눈으로 보기에도 아름다울 뿐 아니라 맛 또한 매우 좋다. 숟가락으로 휘휘 저으면 소스와 향신료가 어울어진다. 뜨거운 김 속에서 전해지는 마스타바의 맛은 그야말로 든든한 아침으로도 좋을 뿐만 아니라 전날의 숙취를 해소하기에도 더없이 훌륭한 음식이었다.

차는 주전자로 서빙이 된다. 난(빵)과 함께 나오는 이 집의 요거트는 카이막으로 마치 영국의 클로티드 크림처럼 끈적끈적한 식감에 고소한 맛이 마치 영국의 크림티를 연상시키는 환상적 맛이었다.

마스타바와 빵과 함께 요거트 한 그릇을 다 먹고 나올 때쯤 식당의 테이블엔 손님들로 가득 찼다. 밖으로 나오자 샤슬릭 굽는 냄새가 다시 식욕을 자극했다. 이른 아침 안디잔 블라디보스톡에서의 아침은 잊지못할 것 같다. 다음에 안디잔에 다시 간다면 10시경에 맞추어 가서 현지인이 추천한 라그만을 꼭 먹어보고 이분들을 다시 만나고 사진도 전해드리고 싶다.

Ferghana Valley is one of the most beautiful areas of the oasis with the territory in 22,000 square meters. km and a population of 7 million people. Surrounded by mountains of Tien Shan and traversed the waters of the Syr Darya and Naryn, the valley represents the ideal place for agriculture and animal husbandry. The Ferghana Valley is famous for such cities as Andijan, Ferghana, Margilan, Kokand, Shakhimardan, Couva, historic monuments, and architecture.

Andijan is located in the northeast, surrounded by mountains and hills. Andijan and Alamishikskie hills are rich deposits of oil, gas, water and other natural resources. The city is known from the IX century BC. Now it is a major industrial center in Uzbekistan. It carried out the construction of the Uzbek-Korean joint venture UzDaewooAuto in the city of Asaka. Andijan is located on the site of an ancient caravan route linking China with Central Asia. In those days it was part of the Silk Road and served as the eastern gateway to the Fergana Valley. On the whole route along the river was Karadarya caravanserai.

Kokand was the capital of the Kokand Khanate in the H1P-H1H ages and religious center of the valley, there are many madrassas and mosques.

Margilan in ancient times was widely known for its craftsmen for the manufacture of carpets and fabrics, especially khan-atlas. This city has a distinctive architectural tradition. Caravans of silk sent from Margilan in Arabia here produced more than 20 million meters of silk fabrics.

Couva - Memorial famous medieval scholar al-Fergani, who was known in Europe under the name Alfraganus.

Namangan region occupies an area in the north valley, on the right bank of the Syr Darya. At 25 kilometers from the Namangan, the area is known archaeological survey - an ancient settlement Aksikent.

페르가나 안디잔에서 타슈켄트까지 기차로 여행
키르기즈스탄 오쉬에서 돌아와서 바로 안디잔역으로 가서 다음날 새벽 기차표를 끊었다. 타슈켄트행 새벽기차표를 예매한 후, 타슈켄트에서 히바로 가는 기차표도 함께 끊었다. 우즈베키스탄 메인 기차역에서 다른 지역으로 가는 기차표를 구매할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 온라인에서도 구매가 가능하다.(회원가입 필수)

안디잔역에서 기차표를 예매할 당시에 옆에 있었던 안디잔 사람, 딜무랏을 다음날 옆자리에서 다시 만났다. 무척 반가웠다. 기차를 타고 가는 내내 여행이야기, 일이야기, 음식이야기 등으로 즐거운 시간을 보냈다. 특히 안디잔 쁠롭에 대한 이야기가 좋았는데, 그는 유럽에서 셰프로 일한 경험이 있는 친구여서 음식에 대한 관심도 많았다.
타슈켄트에 도착해서도 우리의 교통편을 염려해주고 친절하게 대해줬다. 우리는 서부여행을 마치고 다시 타슈켄트로 왔을 때 철수바자르에서 그를 또 만났다.
다음에 우즈벡에 왔을 때 그를 만날 수 있기를 기대해본다.

안디잔 혹은 페르가나 쪽 여행을 한다면 아사카(Asaka)에 있는 쵼탁 초이하나(Cho'ntak choyxonasi)에 들러서 쁠롭을 한번 드셔보기를 추천한다. 물론 즉석에서 만들기 때문에 주문후 최소 40분이상은 걸리기 때문에 시간적 여유가 있어야 한다.

다시 가고 싶은 안디잔, 페르가나, 우즈베키스탄!

코칸트에서 기차를 타고 안디잔으로!

우즈베키스탄에서 기차여행으로 가장 매력있는 페르가나
여유 부리다가 하마터면 기차를 놓칠 뻔 했다. 더구나 기차가 문을 열어주지 않는 예기치 않는 상황까지 벌어졌지만 역무원의 도움으로 간신히 탑승하자마자 바로 기차는 출발했다.

*겨울이라 사람들이 많지 않아 예매 없어 기차역에서 바로 표를 샀다. 하지만 가능하면 미리 예매하는 것이 좋다고 한다.

우리가 탄 기차는 부하라 안다잔행 노선 열차였다. 클래스가 나누어지지 않은 대부분이 침대칸인 듯 했다. 복도측 창가에 접이식 침대도 있어 앉아 가기도 하고 침대로 조립해 누워갈 수도 있는 실용적인 구조였다.

여름과 가을에 두 번 와봤는데 거리마다 있던 푸르른 미루나무가 매력적이었는데 이번 겨울 페르가나의 미루나무는 또 다른 매력으로 다가왔다. 잎이 떨어진 미루나무 사이로 멀리까지 시원하게 보이는 자연 경관이 정말 좋았다. 자연에 더 가까워진 색감이었다.

글을 쓰고 있는 지금 이순간 또 다시 우즈베키스탄에 가고싶다.
