Andújar está situada a los pies de Sierra Morena, al oeste de la provincia de Jaén, su término municipal está incluido en el P. N. Sierras de Andújar, ecosistema mediterráneo donde habitan numerosas especies faunísticas. Es una ciudad atractiva, que mezcla su aire serrano con su tradición olivarera y su relación con el Guadalquivir. El Parque Natural Sierra de Andújar es una muestra del paisaje alomado típico de Sierra Morena, entre el monte mediterráneo y las dehesas del corazón del parque, las escarpadas sierras del norte y los densos pinares del sur. La riqueza arqueológica del núcleo y término municipal de Andújar es extraordinaria. Los primeros vestigios se remontan al Paleolítico, pero es en las fases Neolítica y en la primera Edad del Bronce, cuando se intensifica el poblamiento del término, auspiciado por el desarrollo de la agricultura en sus fértiles tierra y el desarrollo de la minería en Sierra Morena.
El núcleo más importante fue el de los Villares de Andújar, la Isturgi romana, a partir de su paulatino abandono se desarrolló el actual núcleo de Andújar. En época romana existió en Andújar un pequeño núcleo relacionado con el puente que cruzaba el río Guadalquivir. Un río que se había convertido en una de las principales vías que conectaban Andalucía con la capital del imperio.
The archaeological wealth of the nucleus and the municipality of Andújar is
extraordinary. The first traces go back to the Paleolithic, but
is in phases and the first Neolithic Bronze Age, when
intensifies the peopling of the term, sponsored by the development of

Sierra Morena.
The most important was the core of Villares de Andújar, the Isturgi

De ella son buena prueba una serie de yacimientos en cuevas, entre los que destaca la Cueva de la Pileta, por ser uno de los mejores exponentes del arte rupestre del Paleolítico andaluz.
Ronda is one of the oldest cities of Spain.
Its origin, according to archaelogical findings in the old city space belongs to the Neolithic age. Despite of this, the presence of the human being in this land can be explained at a previous time. A proof of this are the sites found at caves, being the most important the one found at the Pileta's Cave, which is one of the best cave's paintings examples of all the Paleolithic age in Andalusia.

Como la mayoría de las poblaciones de la provincia, su ubicación ha estado ocupada por el ser humano desde tiempos prehistóricos. También los romanos tuvieron asentamientos (como Santiscal) aunque es mucho más relevante la presencia de los árabes, época de la que provienen el trazado de sus calles, el alcázar militar, la muralla, los molinos, etc. En la época del Emirato dependiente de Damasco (711-757) perteneció a la Cora de Sidonia. En el siglo XI se declara independiente y el Emir de Calsena toma la ciudad y la aleja de la influencia de Córdoba, convirtiéndose en un reino de taifa controlado por una familia de origen bereber. Fue conquistada por el rey Alfonso X en el año 1254. En el siglo XV se convierte en señorío y en el mismo siglo paso a ser condado bajo el dominio de la familia Ponce de León, llegando a su cenit desde el siglo XV hasta el XVII. Durante el siglo XVIII se produce una expansión urbana que supera la extensión de sus murallas árabes.
Hoy en día es la entrada de la Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos y Conjunto Histórico-Artístico. Junto con sus magníficos paisajes, la hacen destino turístico de primer orden en la provincia de Cádiz, lo que constituye su principal fuente de ingresos
