A Visit To Almansa - A great day trip from Valencia. Castle and yummy Gazpacho Manchego

When we moved to Valencia in 2008, we became friends with our landlord and even though we don't live in his apartment anymore we're still in touch with him and hang out once in a while.

Ever since we met him, he wanted us to come and visit the town he was born in, Almansa. We promised we will but we we had no idea it will take us 13 years to finally do so.

When we arrived our landlord couldn't have been happier that we finally made our promise come through and we instantly set out for a tour.

We started out at Plaza Santa María, lined by the church, the Palacio de los Condes de Cirat and not too far you can see the Castillo de Almansa on a hill. We climbed up to the castle to take in the incredible views and learned a bit about the history of Almansa.

We had a great time and didn't realize that it's already lunchtime. We set out to drive to a small restaurant in the country side for an incredible meal. The star of this lunch was definitely Gazpacho Manchego which was served on a giant tortilla.

Castillo de Almansa, Spain

[8K HDR VIDEO]
Almansa Castle is a castle located in the homonymous town, in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha.
Built on the rocky element called Cerro del Águila, it is difficult to access, which helped its function as a defensive bulwark. It is divided into several enclosures at different heights or levels, ranging from the defensive barbican, which is the lowest, to the keep, which is the highest.
The remains of mud walls preserved in this castle, were built during the first decades of Christian rule, at the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century.

Tiny Tour | Chinchilla Spain | A town overlooking the largest Plain in Spain La Mancha | 2021 Oct

Chinchilla de Montearagón is a town and a municipality in the province of Albacete, in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha. It is located in the region of La Mancha de Montearagón, 13 km from the capital of Albacete. It was the capital of the province of Chinchilla between 1822 and 1823, on which was created in 1833 the province of Albacete.

It is integrated into the region of Monte Ibérico-Corredor de Almansa, although it is also part of the so-called Mancha de Montearagón, which occupies the southeastern sector of La Mancha.

At the beginning of the Neolithic period, Chinchilla de Montearagón must have been populated quickly, since it was a high area in a plain swamped by the rivers that flow down from the south. Tradition, however, attributes the foundation of Chinchilla to Hercules, around the 7th century BC. that put the first stones on the place.

Xativa Castle - Valencia Tourist Places - Places to visit in Valencia Spain

Thanks to its strategic location perched high above Xàtiva on the sierra del Castell hill, this twin fortress has been the scene and spectator of a host of battles. Gradually expanded and fortified by the successive cultures that have inhabited these lands, the castle is divided into the Castell Menor, which sits atop Iberian and Roman remains, and the Castell Major. It already featured in Hannibal’s campaigns and the Al-Ándalus period, and subsequently assumed importance for the Kingdom of Valencia in the wars against Castile, the Revolt of the Brotherhoods and the War of the Spanish Succession. It was also used to as a prison for illustrious captives.

The castle forms the highest point of the defensive walls that once encircled early mediaeval Xàtiva. Despite its Iberian and Roman roots, most of castle walls and towers preserved today are of Islamic or Gothic origin. Its imposing architecture renders the castle one of the city’s finest gems, and it has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site. No visit to Xàtiva is complete without a trip around this fortress, with stunning views over the city and its surroundings.
