Akdeniz; hep batı medeniyetlerinin beşiği, üç kıtayı bir araya getiren deniz olarak anıldı. İnsanların, toplumların hikayesine denizin gelgitleri eşlik etti. Akdeniz'in gücüne karşı kim direnebilir ki; Mısırlılardan Giritlere, Roma ve Bizans dönemine, Arap ve Türk fetihlerine kadar üzerinde hakimiyet kurmayı başaran bütün halkları dize getirdi Akdeniz.
Akdeniz tarih sahnesinde hiç inmedi, İnmeyecek te! Napolyon savaşlarından Süveyş kanalının açılışına, iki dünya savaşına kadar Akdeniz yine tarih sahnesinde başrolde yer aldı.
Denizci tarihçi Ernle Bradford 30 yıl boyunca Akdeniz'in neredeyse tüm koylarını, tüm adalarını, her şehrini bizzat görüp keşfettikten sonra Akdeniz Bir Denizin Hikayesi adlı eserini yazdı. Kitapta Eski Dünya'nın göbeğinde bir mücevher gibi uzanan bu denizin öyküsünü anlatıyor bize; gemileri, yemekleri, kentleri, balıkları, bitkileri, efsaneleriyle...
“Akdeniz” isminin kaynağıyla ilgili inanılan iddialardan bir diğeri de eski Türklerde “mavi” rengin doğunun, “ak” rengin batının, “kırmızı” rengin güneyin ve “kara” rengin kuzeyin sembolü olarak kullanılmış olmasıdır. Bu iddiaya göre Akdeniz adlandırmasını ortaya koyan dil bilincinde Ege ve Akdeniz'i tek bir deniz olarak gören yaklaşım vardır. Bu yaklaşıma göre Türkiye'nin kuzeyindeki denize Karadeniz adının verilmesinin sebebi de budur.
Akdeniz, Dünyanın en büyük iç denizidir. Derin bir denizdir ve derinliği 4000 metreyi geçen birçok çukura sahiptir. Doğu Akdeniz Havzası, Batı Akdeniz Havzası'ndan daha derindir. Özellikle Doğu Akdeniz olmak üzere tuzluluk oranı yüksektir.
Kıbrıs ile Mısır arasındaki kısımda tuzluluk oranı binde 39'a ulaşır. Akdeniz'e kıyısı olan 22 ülke vardır. Akdeniz, Atlas Okyanusu'na bağlı, kuzeyinde Avrupa, güneyinde Afrika, doğusunda Asya kıtaları ile çevrilidir.
2.5 milyon km² bir alan kaplayan deniz Cebelitarık Boğazı ile Atlas Okyanusu'ndan; Süveyş Kanalı ile de Kızıldeniz'den ayrılır. Akdeniz’in tuzluluk oranı ‰ 38 (binde 38) olup tuz oranı fazla olan denizler grubunda değerlendirilir.
Dağların denize bakan yamaçlarında makilikler ve yer yer yüksek ormanlar kaplı ve arkalarında çukur alanlar ise karasal etkilerin arttığı bir iklim tipine rastlanır. Yine de Akdeniz’in etkisi nedeniyle bu kesimlerdeki iklim, İç Anadolu’daki kadar şiddetli karasal özellikler taşımaz.
Kıyılar genellikle dağlıktır, sık sık depremler ve volkan etkinlikleri görülür. Güneyden esen sıcak, kuru, sirokko; kuzeyden gelen soğuk kuru mistral ve bora gibi yerel rüzgârlar görülür.
Türkiye'nin ortalama sıcaklığı en yüksek noktası da buradadır. Bu sayede turizm gelişmiştir. Turizm bölgenin önemli geçim kaynaklarındandır. Aynı zamanda iklim şartları nedeniyle bitki örtüsü makidir ve aynı zamanda yazları sıcak ve kurak kışları ise ılık ve yağışlı geçer.
Bu bölgede ortalama derece yazları 18°-30° derece kışları ise ortalama 8°-10° derece arasında yer alır. Bitki örtümüz maki, defne, keçiboynuzu, zeytin gibi bodur ve de kısa ağaçlardan oluşur. Ancak bu ağaçlar orman ağaçlarına nispeten sıcağa ve soğuğa daha dayanıklıdır.
Avrupa, Afrika ve Asya kıtaları arasında bir içdeniz durumunda olan Akdeniz’in yüzölçümü 2.5 milyon km’dir. Uzunluğu Cebelitarık Boğazı’ndan Suriye’ye kadar 3.750 km’yi bulur. En geniş yeri de Fransa ile Cezayir kıyıları arasında 742 km’dir. Akdeniz, Cebelitarık Boğazı ile Atlas Okyanusuna, İstanbul ve Çanakkale Boğazları ile Karadeniz’e bağlanmıştır. Ayrı olarak Süveyş Kanalı yoluyla da Kızıldeniz’e bağlantısı vardır.

Because of the archaeological and natural riches of the area, Antalya is also known as the Turkish Riviera. The sun, sea, nature and history combine to form a very popular resort, highlighted by some of the cleanest beaches in the Mediterranean. The 630km shoreline of the province is liberally scattered with ancient cities, harbours, memorial tombs and beaches, secluded coves and lush forests, many of which are easily accessible from the city.
With its palm-lined boulevard, internationally-acclaimed marina, and old castle with traditional architecture, all set amidst a modern city, Antalya is a major tourist centre in Turkey. In addition to the wide selection of hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops, the city also plays host to a number of sporting events throughout the year, like international beach volleyball, triathlon, golf tournaments, archery, tennis and canoeing competitions. The Cultural Centre, which opened in 1995, hosts cultural and art events in the fields of music, theatre, and creative arts. The main area of interest in the city is central old quarter within the Roman walls, known as Kaleici, and there are many good museums.
Districts: Akseki, Alanya, Elmali, Finike, Gazipasa, Gundogmus, Ibradi, Kale, Kas, Kemer, Korkutali, Kumluca, Manavgat and Serik are all towns in the province of Antalya.

Antalya, Turkey.
Antalya is the fifth most populous city in Turkey and the capital of its eponymous province. Located on Anatolia's flourishing southwest coast bordered by the Taurus Mountains, Antalya is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast with over one million people in its metropolitan area.
The city that is now Antalya was first settled around 200 BC by the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon, which was soon subdued by the Romans. Roman rule saw Antalya thrive, including the construction of several new monuments, such as Hadrian's Gate, and the proliferation of neighboring cities. The city has changed hands several times, including to the Byzantine Empire in 1207 and an expanding Ottoman Empire in 1391. Ottoman rule brought relative peace and stability for the next five hundred years.
The city was transferred to Italian suzerainty in the aftermath of World War I, but was recaptured by a newly independent Turkey in the War of Independence.
Antalya is Turkey's biggest international sea resort, located on the Turkish Riviera. Large-scale development and governmental funding has promoted tourism. A record 12.5 million tourists passed through the city in 2014.

How to find Kubbe ?
Kubbe is quite easy to find, just type it into your Google maps and it will take you in the right direction. It’s always good to have a picture of it on your phone for reference in case you need to as someone local for directions, you can just show them the picture. When you come to the street Pasa Camii Sokagi , you’ll see a pizza place “Pak Side Pizza Salonu” ( see the picture below ). Turn left and then you’ll see some stairs leading up to what appears to be nothing ( see the picture below ). Head up here to find Kubbe rooftop !
Kubbe Istanbul
For a stunning view of Istanbul, head to Kubbe rooftop. It costs 50 Turkish lira (almost £7) to relax up here and enjoy unlimited Turkish tea, fresh cherry juice, Turkish delights and fresh cherries! I had the whole place to myself for the majority of the time as it is not so busy in the day, but during sunset it gets very busy!
The most lovely lady works here and I spent an hour or so just chatting with her and playing with the kittens (she told me the kittens will be given away in the next few weeks so there’s no guarantee they’ll still be there when you visit!). The owners also take amazing drone videos of you here if you wish (as Turkey Drone Regulations make it quite difficult for foreigners to use their own drones in Turkey) for a good price.
Kubbe, Istanbul’s Best Secret Rooftop:
Kubbe, is Istanbul’s best secret rooftop, or rather not-so-secret, rooftop. In the past Valide Han was the “it” spot, however they closed it down due to security and safety issues. Then came Kubbe-i-ask Cafe and Bookstore. You could have gone to the bookstore and gotten a glass of chai, grabbed a book, and headed to the rooftop for stunning views. The cafe and bookstore have been demolished but the roof is intact and travellers flock there (mostly at sunset) to get the most stunning views of Istanbul’s skyline.

Kocatepe Mosque, the largest mosque in Ankara
The Kocatepe Mosque is the largest mosque in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. It was built between 1967 and 1987 in the Kocatepe quarter in Kızılay, and its size and prominent situation have made it a landmark that can be seen from almost anywhere in central Ankara.
The idea of building the Kocatepe Mosque dates back to the 1940s. On December 8, 1944, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki, the Vice-President of Turkish Religious Affairs, along with seventy-two founding members, established a society known as the Society to Build a Mosque in Yenişehir, Ankara. In 1947 this society called for projects to be drawn up by architects, but none of the submitted projects were accepted.
