- Mirador del Balcon viewpoint is in the far west of Gran Canaria and hangs over the sea at the top of a steep cliiff edge with spectacular views out over the Atlantic Ocean. From the viewpoint you get a clear view of a zigzag wall of sea cliffs called the “Dragon’s Tail”. Turning back to look at the island you see the La Arena Valley and the wide, green La Aldea de San Nicolás.
- Las Vacas ravine has become a well-known tourist attraction for visitors of Gran Canaria because of its peculiar rock formations called Tobas de Colores which bear a certain resemblance to the famous Antelope Canyon in the United States.
- Las Canteras beach in northeast Gran Canaria, right in the capital city Las Palmas, is amongst Europe’s most famous city beaches.Its natural offshore lava reef acts as a wavebreak and protects the sand and the exuberant marine life that make Las Canteras a top snorkeling spot.Las Canteras is an ideal beach for long barefoot walks as it’s golden sand stretches for over two kilometres. during the day you can sunbathe by the sand sculptures, rent parasols and loungers or surf at the southern end.
- Barranco del Medio with Los Azulejos de Veneguera is one of those surprises that make me pull the car over, pull the hand brake and run out with the camera and the drone :)
- Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete, Gran Canaria, is one of the most charming coastal towns on the Canarian island that is worth visiting for a few days of rest and relaxation.
Its spectacular landscapes (The El Dedo de Dios Monument), warm climate, leisure sites, and natural pools make the Puerto de las Nieves in Gran Canaria an appetizing stop to enjoy the best sailor’s style of the archipelago.
- Tufia hamlet is famous for it's existential battle against the Spanish government. Its beach, tiny as it is, is the headquarters of resistance.
Little more than a cluster of whitewashed houses by the sea, Tufia is far more shabby than chic and only has a chiringuito bar during the summer. However, it's become a battleground between the Spanish government and residents.
Built without permission in the 1960s in an area that is now a nature reserve, almost all of Tufia's 90 houses are scheduled for demolition. The locals are fighting to protect their seaside homes and have even arranged international art festivals to publicise their fight. It'll take a brave politician to send in the bulldozers as Tufia is a cause celebré amongst Gran Canaria's alternative crowd.
- This neighbourhood in the Gáldar municipality promises fun right down the street, since that’s where you’ll find both the thoroughfare and the sea. Native painter and expressionist Antonio Padrón used to spend summers with his family on the beach of Sardina del Norte.
This paradise in the north of Gran Canaria has Sardina Beach, several piers, Roqueta beach, and Barranquillo del Vino, where expert swimmers bathe. The Sardina Lighthouse area is ideal for diving, spearfishing, and hiking. Skirting the coast from there, you’ll reach the town of Gáldar.

Driving the winding road of the GC-200, we suddenly saw incredibly colorful rocks. We were quite surprised, because nowhere have we come across information that there are such miracles in Gran Canaria. It turned out to be a unique exposure to the rock formations known as Los Azulejos. Rocks owe their color to various minerals that color them and to volcanic processes that occurred in this area 14 million years ago.
The trail to Roque Nublo - Na Roque Nublo from La Goleta leads a 1.5 km long very pleasant and undemanding trekking trail. It is marked as S-70. Good shoes are a must as you walk on loose volcanic material.
Maspalomas Dunes - A nature reserve located in the south of Gran Canaria. You can observe the process of movement and formation of dunes here. The whole thing looks very impressive. So let's go deeper into the dunes and admire their beauty closer to the Atlantic Ocean.
Mirador del Balcón - Gran Canaria offers many beautiful viewpoints, including the Mirador del Balcón. It is a place with a great view of the cliffs falling into the Atlantic. The cliffs visible from this point are called dragon's tail because their shape resembles a monster's tail. On a cloudless day and with good air transparency, you can see neighboring Tenerife with the Teide volcano.
Puerto de Mogan is a small, charming town located in the southwest of Gran Canaria. Due to the network of channels connecting the marina with the fishing port, it is called the Venice of the Canary Islands. Once a fishing village, it is now one of Gran Canaria's most popular holiday resorts.

USEFUL TIPS ABOUT YOUR GRAN CANARIA ROAD TRIP
- Parking in Gran Canaria is relatively easy. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and other large towns, always look for the right parking line colour. White lines mean you can park for free. Blue lines mean you can park for a fee that you can pay at the nearest ticket machine. Stay away from yellow and green parking lines. Alternatively, you can park in a large parking lot for a fee. Sometimes, your car rental company may offer free parking near your hotel.
- More often than not, there are more than one ways to get from point A to B. In this video, we usually suggest taking the most scenic route rather than the fastest or easiest one. Also, driving along the same roads and passing through the same spots is inevitable sometimes, but we did our best to add as much variety as possible to this 10-day Gran Canaria itinerary. Last but not least, some places may seem very close to one another on the map but there isn't always a quick road to connect them.
- If you're wondering about the best car type to rent in Gran Canaria, just go with the one you feel comfortable driving. We went for a FIAT 500 and it was perfect!

A Spanish island near Europe,.The northwest coast of Africa is about 150 km away and mainland Europe is about 1350 km from Gran Canaria. It has 60 kilometers of beach on a coastline of 236 kilometers. The sun shines almost every day.
Gran Canaria has all sorts of beaches. There are busy beaches, such as the long sandy beach of Maspalomas. An endless stretch of sand that starts at Playa del Inglés and extends to the Maspalomas lighthouse, along a desert of dunes on the south coast of the island.
But there are also many other beaches on the south coast. Here you will find quiet family beaches, such as San Agustín, the beach of Amadores or the small beach of Puerto de Mogán. Or maybe you are looking for the bustle of the traditionally known resort of Puerto Rico.

Gran Canaria is a miniature continent, with a range of unusual landscapes in the middle of a very diverse archipelago. That is why UNESCO has decided to declare the island a biosphere reserve. To actively participate in the conservation of the puzzle pieces of this natural environment, an unusual and special micro world. Almost half of the geographical area of Gran Canaria is included in this reserve, which includes six rural villages where traditional activities are carried out.
And the variety of mountainous landscapes, the special geomorphology, is another special feature of Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria is one of the eight Canary Islands in Spain, it is located off the northwestern coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Even though geographically it is closer to Morroco and the African Continent, it is part of Spain and classed as part of Europe.
Gran Canaria is one of the prettiest places in Spain and it is a popular destination for holidaymakers. Agaete The northern route finishes in the municipality of Agaete, an eminently coastal locality situated 30 kilometres from the capital. This marine municipality's town centre is found 43 metres above sea-level. The topography of Agaete is, in general, very abrupt. From this locality three main basins stand out: El Risco, Guayedra and Agaete. The municipality reaches a maximum altitude of 1,180 metres in the mountainous zone of the Pinar de Tamadaba (the Tamadaba Pine Tree Reserve).
In Agaete where there are examples of all cultural signs, we find one of the most important tumulus necropolises of the island: the Necropolis of Maipés, a future Archaeological Park.
Located in the historic quarter of Agaete is La Concepción Church, which replaced the primitive hermitage (1515). One must also highlight the Cultural Centre of the Municipality and the Town Hall, which are large XIX century houses that mirror the traditional architecture of the time.
Agaete also has green areas of special relevance: El Huerto de las Flores and Tamadaba Natural Park. The former is a botanic garden situated in the municipal town and contains a great variety of exotic plant species. Public opening times: Tuesdays to Fridays from 09:00 to 17:00 hours; Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:30 hours.
The Tamadaba Natural Park is a protected space which contains the biggest pine area on the island of Gran Canaria. The mountain mass descends the steep sloping mountain side, embedded ravines and abrupt cliffs, towards the sea , creating a landscape of great beauty where the impressive Roque Faneque with its 1,008 metre vertical fall to the sea, stands out. The Roque is considered one of the highest active cliffs in the world. On top of the massif, around 1,000 metres above sea level, there appears a flat surface occupied by a dense forest of Canarian pine.
From the Valley of Agaete, outstanding for its singular beauty and its tropical fruit and orange orchards, together with its coffee plantations, one can view the striking mountain range of Tamadaba with its thick pine forests. Apart from the great beauty of the Valle de Agaete, one can enjoy the traditional constructions which are used for rural tourism in the area, promoting the practise of trekking in the municipality.
The Port of Las Nieves is in the coastal area of the municipality. Here you will find the Hermitage and Triptych of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, the latter of which was attributed to the XVI century Flemish painter Joos Van Cleve. In the Port of Las Nieves one can appreciate the Roque Partido (Broken Rock) or Dedo de Dios (God’s Finger), a symbol for the people of Gran Canarian. The Roque Partido is a rocky formation that as a result of erosion took the shape of a fist.
Agaete also has some of the most popular natural pools and beaches of the northern part of the island. The most visited of which is Las Nieves Beach, with its calm waters and great fishing atmosphere full of restaurants that offer the best gastronomy of the place, as well as its picturesque maritime walk.

Agaete is located on the northwest of the island of Gran Canaria, and 33 km away from Las Palmas, its capital city.
Agaete is famous around the island for several reasons.
One of them is their well known once a year festivity called La Rama de Agaete. People from all over the island attend the event to dance and sing to the rhythm of the local band called La Banda de Agaete.
In Agaete you can also find an important port called Puerto de Las Nieves which has daily ships that connect the neighbour island of Tenerife to Agaete in Gran Canaria. It's also known because of the fish industry. In fact, some people say that you can find some of the best fresh fish of the island in the local restaurants.
God's finger or El Dedo de Dios is also in Agaete, right in front of the port by the reef. It's a naturally formed stone that had the shape of a finger. However a few years ago the finger fell off due to some weather conditions and it can't be seen anymore tho the spirit is still there.
Agaete also has a much developed agrarian sector and a great food production system. You can visit banana plantations and other kinds all around Agaete in Gran Canaria.
Another nice festival is called Bio Agaete in which there is music, markets and ecological food for the whole weekend and it is been getting famous in the recent years.
If you come to Gran Canaria you should definitely visit Agaete.
