Top 15 Best Things to do & see in Gran Canaria !

Our 15 best things to do and see in Gran Canaria. 4K Video with beautiful images !
Visit Gran Canaria and enjoy this beautiful island...

For any other information we are happy to answer your questions.

In this video you will see:
- Roque Nublo which is considered one of the biggest natural crags in the world.
- Watching the sun set behind Teide volcano over in Tenerife is the perfect way to round off a day on Amadores beach
- GuiGui secret beach
- Maspalomas Sand Dunes one of the must visit if you are in Gran Canaria-
- To appreciate the essence of a place and soak up its atmosphere there is nothing better than getting to the highest point. In Gran Canaria this is the Pico de las Nieves lookout point right in the centre of the island.
- Mirador del Balcon viewpoint is in the far west of Gran Canaria and hangs over the sea at the top of a steep cliiff edge with spectacular views out over the Atlantic Ocean. From the viewpoint you get a clear view of a zigzag wall of sea cliffs called the “Dragon’s Tail”. Turning back to look at the island you see the La Arena Valley and the wide, green La Aldea de San Nicolás.
- Las Vacas ravine has become a well-known tourist attraction for visitors of Gran Canaria because of its peculiar rock formations called Tobas de Colores which bear a certain resemblance to the famous Antelope Canyon in the United States.
- Las Canteras beach in northeast Gran Canaria, right in the capital city Las Palmas, is amongst Europe’s most famous city beaches. Its natural offshore lava reef acts as a wavebreak and protects the sand and the exuberant marine life that make Las Canteras a top snorkeling spot.Las Canteras is an ideal beach for long barefoot walks as it’s golden sand stretches for over two kilometres. during the day you can sunbathe by the sand sculptures, rent parasols and loungers or surf at the southern end.
- Barranco del Medio with Los Azulejos de Veneguera is one of those surprises that make me pull the car over, pull the hand brake and run out with the camera and the drone :)
- Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete, Gran Canaria, is one of the most charming coastal towns on the Canarian island that is worth visiting for a few days of rest and relaxation.
Its spectacular landscapes (The El Dedo de Dios Monument), warm climate, leisure sites, and natural pools make the Puerto de las Nieves in Gran Canaria an appetizing stop to enjoy the best sailor’s style of the archipelago.
- Tufia hamlet is famous for it's existential battle against the Spanish government. Its beach, tiny as it is, is the headquarters of resistance.
Little more than a cluster of whitewashed houses by the sea, Tufia is far more shabby than chic and only has a chiringuito bar during the summer. However, it's become a battleground between the Spanish government and residents.
Built without permission in the 1960s in an area that is now a nature reserve, almost all of Tufia's 90 houses are scheduled for demolition. The locals are fighting to protect their seaside homes and have even arranged international art festivals to publicise their fight. It'll take a brave politician to send in the bulldozers as Tufia is a cause celebré amongst Gran Canaria's alternative crowd.
- This neighbourhood in the Gáldar municipality promises fun right down the street, since that’s where you’ll find both the thoroughfare and the sea. Native painter and expressionist Antonio Padrón used to spend summers with his family on the beach of Sardina del Norte.
This paradise in the north of Gran Canaria has Sardina Beach, several piers, Roqueta beach, and Barranquillo del Vino, where expert swimmers bathe. The Sardina Lighthouse area is ideal for diving, spearfishing, and hiking. Skirting the coast from there, you’ll reach the town of Gáldar.

Gran Canaria TOP 10 the best places to visit

Gran Canaria is full of attractions, thanks to which it is impossible to get bored even for a moment during your stay on the island. It delights with unusual vegetation, breathtaking on winding and mountainous routes, fills you with peace and it is certainly not worth associating only with sunbathing and blissful doing nothing. This article will help you get to know the island through its most interesting and beautiful places. Set off with us on a journey through Gran Canaria on a non-touristic, unobvious and full of hills trail.

Driving the winding road of the GC-200, we suddenly saw incredibly colorful rocks. We were quite surprised, because nowhere have we come across information that there are such miracles in Gran Canaria. It turned out to be a unique exposure to the rock formations known as Los Azulejos. Rocks owe their color to various minerals that color them and to volcanic processes that occurred in this area 14 million years ago.

The trail to Roque Nublo - Na Roque Nublo from La Goleta leads a 1.5 km long very pleasant and undemanding trekking trail. It is marked as S-70. Good shoes are a must as you walk on loose volcanic material.

Maspalomas Dunes - A nature reserve located in the south of Gran Canaria. You can observe the process of movement and formation of dunes here. The whole thing looks very impressive. So let's go deeper into the dunes and admire their beauty closer to the Atlantic Ocean.

Mirador del Balcón - Gran Canaria offers many beautiful viewpoints, including the Mirador del Balcón. It is a place with a great view of the cliffs falling into the Atlantic. The cliffs visible from this point are called dragon's tail because their shape resembles a monster's tail. On a cloudless day and with good air transparency, you can see neighboring Tenerife with the Teide volcano.

Puerto de Mogan is a small, charming town located in the southwest of Gran Canaria. Due to the network of channels connecting the marina with the fishing port, it is called the Venice of the Canary Islands. Once a fishing village, it is now one of Gran Canaria's most popular holiday resorts.

Off the coast of Northwest Africa, Gran Canaria is an amazing island of gorgeous scenery, endless stretches of sandy beaches, otherworldly dunes and quaint towns. A year-round destination like no other, Gran Canaria is a fantastic place to escape the cold as temperatures on the island rarely fall below 25°C throughout the year.

Driving is the best way to explore Gran Canaria. In this video, we’ve put together a 10-day Gran Canaria itinerary that has it all: from ancient ruins and picturesque villages to dramatic viewpoints and local businesses worth visiting.

Let this epic Gran Canaria road trip begin!

USEFUL TIPS ABOUT YOUR GRAN CANARIA ROAD TRIP

- Parking in Gran Canaria is relatively easy. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and other large towns, always look for the right parking line colour. White lines mean you can park for free. Blue lines mean you can park for a fee that you can pay at the nearest ticket machine. Stay away from yellow and green parking lines. Alternatively, you can park in a large parking lot for a fee. Sometimes, your car rental company may offer free parking near your hotel.

- More often than not, there are more than one ways to get from point A to B. In this video, we usually suggest taking the most scenic route rather than the fastest or easiest one. Also, driving along the same roads and passing through the same spots is inevitable sometimes, but we did our best to add as much variety as possible to this 10-day Gran Canaria itinerary. Last but not least, some places may seem very close to one another on the map but there isn't always a quick road to connect them.

- If you're wondering about the best car type to rent in Gran Canaria, just go with the one you feel comfortable driving. We went for a FIAT 500 and it was perfect!

Mysterious Ravine, Beautiful Agüimes and the Best Snorkelling Places at Soco Negro on Gran Canaria.

In one day we visit Tobes de Colores a mysterious colourful ravine, Agüimes and some of the best snorkelling spots on Gran Canaria at Arinage: Soco Negro and Playa del Cabrón. Oh yeah and we drove through Guayadeque ravine as well and I still don't know how to pronounce this.

Who said Gran Canaria doesn't have deserts or mountain villages or even beaches and snorkeling places? This can be all visited in a day trip.

The first spot on our one day roadtrip at Gran Canaria starts at a colourful valley, Tobas de Colores Barranco de Las Vacas, a hidden gem on the island. Maybe the Instagram spot on Gran Canaria. A Desert / valley with colours that you normally would picture when you visit the USA. Tobas de Colores is definitely worth a visit by car.

From there we visit Agüimes a beautiful mountain village on Gran Canaria. Agüimes has a cathedral that took 150 years to build. But the streets are maybe even prettier than the cathedral itself.

Before we visit the best snorkelling spots on the island, we drove through Guayadeque ravine. And if you know how to pronounce Guayadeque ravine, let me know because I still don't know how.

And lastly Arinaga. Which offers two of the best snorkelling spots on Gran Canaria. You have Soco Negro which is an ideal bay in the town centre that is a perfect spot for families or first time snorkelers. Don't let that scare you if you are more experiences. Soco Negro has some nice marine life / fishes to spot and because it is so accessible it is a nice relaxing snorkelling place.

Playa del Cabrón on the other hand, requires you to drive over a dirt road. But then you will reach a very local Gran Canarian sand beach. With some great rock formations in the water where some great marine life can be spotted.

Agüimes - Gran Canaria - Canary Islands - Spain 8K

The municipality of Agüimes, whose principal demographic centre is situated only 2 kilometres from Ingenio and 29 kilometres from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is divided into three perfectly defined areas: the grazing or mountain area beginning at an altitude of 300 metres above sea-level, the agricultural area situated at 275 metres above sea-level (where the Historic Quarter of Agüimes is situated) and the coastal area which heads for the fishing village of Arinaga.

Group of friends walking around Agüimes streets
Street in the historic old part of Agüimes
In Agüimes one must highlight its historic quarter with the Parish Temple of San Sebastián, a stone building with a certain cathedral-looking style and a façade which represents the one of the best examples of neo-classical Canarian architecture on the island. The temple was declared a Monument of National Historical Interest in 1981.

In the same centre of the Villa is is to be found the Casa de Los Camellos Hotel, a more than 300 year old building that belonged to an aristocratic family, and close by, in the Plaza de San Antón, is situated the Interpretation Centre of Agüimes, which allows the visitor to interpret the architectural and artistic characteristics of the Historic Quarter. Public opening hours: Winter, Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 15:00 hours and also on Mondays from 16:00 to 18:00 hours; Summer, Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 14:00 hours.

Iglesia de Agüimes church
Plaza de la Música square
During four centuries the municipality of Agüimes was the domain of the Episcopal Chamber. Testimony to those times is the Episcopal Palace, which now houses the Agüimes History Museum, next to the Parque de Los Moros. At present the museum has eight exhibition rooms. In this building, both the access door as well as the stonework that frames it are worth a mention. From the building one must highlight all of its masonry (which comes from the only quarry in this part of the island), the gabled roof, as well as the beautiful treated woodwork. Public opening hours Tuesdays to Sundays from 09:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 hours.

There exist two places of interest within the natural surroundings of the municipality: Temisas and Guayadeque.

Temisas, 9.6 kilometres from the centre of Agüimes with its beautiful landscape surroundings  was declared Representative Canarian Hamlet by the Canarian Government. In Temisas we can contemplate an extraordinary mountain view, the Roque Aguayro (the Aguayro Rock Monolith) and the most important olive tree plantation of the Canarian archipelago, where the XVIII century Hermitage of San Miguel is situated.

Temisas landscape
View of the Roque Aguayro
Guayadeque is to be found at a distance of 3 kilometres from the centre of Agüimes. Guayadeque is a deep gully that divides the island and which has been classified as a Natural Monument and Property of Cultural Interest. Here we find the interesting troglodyte village of Cueva Bermeja (Bermeja Cave), the Chapel of San Bartolomé Apóstol, as well as welcoming restaurants built into the mountain rocks. Guayadeque also possesses an Interpretation Centre situated in a building dug into the sides of the gully. Public opening hours Tuesdays to Saturdays from 09:00 to 17:00 hours; Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00 hours.

Among the beaches of this coastal municipality, one must highlight Vargas Beach which has been recognised as one of the best beaches in the world for the practise of radical windsurfing. It is for this reason that a world championship event is held here annually, the Vargas PWA Wave Classic Grand Prix, which attracts the most prestigious windsurfers in the world.

However, if the visitor wants to appreciate the marine sea-beds of Gran Canaria, Agüimes offers one of the most spectacular beaches for the practise of underwater diving: El Cabrón Beach, one of the marine areas with the greatest biological and ecological diversity of the Canarian Archipelago.

The municipality of Agüimes also has two more beaches, Arinaga Beach and Balos Beach, which although exposed to the trade winds, are very popular, especially in the summer.

Aguimes - Gran Canaria - 4K UHD - Virtual Trip

Located in the east of the island of Gran Canaria, Aguïmes is one of the most touristic small towns on the island. Its very characteristic historic center is quite small and can be visited quickly. The town is located in the protected site of the mountain of Agüimes, separated from Ingenio by the ravine of the Barranco de Guayadeque.

The Old Town Of Agüimes - Gran Canaria

Little town of Aguimes has a very beautiful old town which was renovated recently. A walk through the cobble stone paved streets of Aguimes is very enjoyable. The atmosphere is very warm with a few cafes and bars sprinkled around the centre of the old town where the tourist information office is.

As this town is located only a 15 minute bus ride from the Las Palmas airport (Bus no. 30) it is worth a visit before catching your flight. The city can be explored within a couple of hours!

Tip: The best view of the city can be seen just before entering the city. If you are taking a bus, be ready with a camera as you can click beautiful shots of the whole city landscape!

Best Gran Canaria Circular Roadtrip | Visit Arucas, Maspalomas Sand Dunes and Mirador del Balcón

The best roadtrip around Gran Canaria is this circular ride, that goes around the island of Gran Canaria on the Canary island. We visit Arucas, Maspalomas Sand Dunes, Mirador El Balcón and more.

With the car we drive from Las Palmas to Arucas where we enjoy some amazing architecture. Then we enjoy some amazing views on the West Side of Gran Canaria with cliffs that you will only see on this side of Gran Canaria. The best place to see those views is from Mirador El Balcón.

From Mirador El Balcón we drive to the famous Sand Dunes at Maspalomas. Of course we visit some volcanic pools at La Aldea but not much later we arrive at the sand dunes in Gran Canaria.

We visit the Sand Dunes both from Maspalomas side as Playa del Inglés. After visiting this great sand dunes nature reserve in Gran Canaria, also sometimes seen as the desert of Gran Canaria.
