Hiking up Mt. Nemrut through deep snow in ????ADIYAMAN

???????? There are 81 reasons to fall in love with Turkey and number 02 is Adiyaman!

You’ve probably seen the picture of mysterious statues on top of a mountain but did you know that these statues are right here in Turkey? And that’s exactly where I went - over 1000km away from Istanbul - to climb the mountain where this picture was taken and to find out what else the province of Adiyaman has to offer.

➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸➸
➡️ What you can find in Adiyaman is not only Mount Nemrut but also ancient cities and castles.
Adiyaman is such a fascinating place because you can go back in time and visit places that are as old as human history!

✈️ Adiyaman is located in southern central Turkey and the easiest way to get there from Istanbul is by plane. A ticket was realllyyyy expensive: 700 liras for a return ticket, but I believe this is going to be a once in a lifetime experience and definitely worth the effort and money to go there.

Most people come to Adiyaman because they wanna see Mount Nemrut, but there is more than that!

????Cendere Köprüsü for example is an ancient bridge on the road to Mount Nemrut. You can stop by, have a look, have tea next to the bridge or even camp and swim here in summer.

????Another hidden gem is The ancient city of Arsemia which is right in the heart of nature. Some people say it’s even better than Mount Nemrut, so definitely don’t forget to check this out.

????The Perre ruins are very close to downtown Adiyaman and they used to be one of the big citie’s of the kings of Mesopotomia. It’s a very large area so make sure to bring enough time. There are over 200 rock tombs which are connected and it’s just mind blowing how this site must have been looked during the Roman Empire.

????Kahta Kalesi is one of the impressive castles in Adiyaman which lies on top of a mountain.

???? At the end of January temperatures are really low, it’s very cold and going up Mount Nemrut won’t be an easy game. Especially in the mountain area it’s getting extremely cold, up to -20 degrees during the night time.

Let me tell you how I felt while I was walking up to the peak:

For the first time in a very long time I felt very happy. Because when you are out there, surrounded by all this snow and nobody else around, it really gives you a special feeling.
Also I am grateful that I started this project of visiting all 81 cities of Turkey, because I am learning so much. Not only about Turkey, but also about history in general.
And it feels really good to go out, meet other people and go on little adventures from time to time.

When you climb to the top of the mountain you may get tired but when you see the view, you will feel just grateful for being alive and experiencing such amazing wonders.

There are 2 groups of these god figures. One group of them was placed to greet the sunrise and the other to greet the setting.

That’s it from 02 Adiyaman, see you next time in 03 Afyonkarahisar!

My Journey to the Mysterious Mount Nemrut ???????? | Solo Travel Turkey | Adıyaman Travel Vlog (Ep. 16)

In today's Turkey travel vlog, I visit Mount Nemrut. This is such a peculiar place. The longer I stayed here, the more questions that I had. There was almost no information to be found about this place. The small faded signs barely gave any information about these stone or this mountain.

I would love to remove all of the small pebbles on the mountain to see what's beneath. My guess is that there is more interesting things buried beneath. What do you think?

It's a cool place to simply walk around and visit, however. Get on a bus tour and come!

Adıyaman (TURKEY)

TURKEY Playlist:
Google+:

The area has been inhabited as far back as it's possible to discover. Research in the cave of Palanlı 10 km north of Adıyaman show occupation in 40,000 BC and other digs in Samsat reveal continuous occupation through the stone and Bronze Ages.
From 900BC onwards came waves of invasions from Assyrians, Persians, and Macedonians until the Commagene kingdom was founded in 69BC. This was the civilisation that built the statues on top of nearby Mount Nemrut. The capital was in Samsat (Samosata) but the town of Adıyaman was a walled city of the Commagenes. The city walls of Adıyaman have been restored and replaced many times since.
The Commagene kingdom lasted until the Romans came in 72AD. Yet more campaigns and invasions followed and Adıyaman was controlled by Byzantines 395-670, Ummayads from 670 and then Abbasids 758-926. Then the area returned to Byzantine control during 859-1114. The Arabs returned from 1114 to 1204 and finally came the arrival of the Turks. The Arabic name for the castle and town was Hısn-ı Mansur[citation needed].
Turks moved into the area from 1114 onwards and for most of the 13th century was settled by the Selçuk Turks often disrupted by Mongol invasions. From 1298 to 1516 the town was under the control of the Mameluks. Adıyaman was brought into the Ottoman Empire by Selim I in 1516, but local power often rested with the Dulkadiroğulları tribe of Türkmen people that settled here

TUR#10 ~ Pt 1 Southeast Turkey - Antakya, Antep, Kahta, Mt Nemrut, Arsemia, Karakus, Severan Bridge

Part 1 - With a bunch of sailing friends from Finike Marina, we went on a guided mega tour through southeast Turkey, about 1100 km or 700 miles. A huge trip. So much was seen, so much was learned, so much was experienced. It's so hard not to tell you all every detail because everything was so important, but it would be too long and, dare I say, boring. Nobody wants to see a home movie about history. Yikes. What we can do is share what southeast Turkey has to offer; unfortunately, it can only be a glimpse...

Looking for more ~
I found a really great site called Turkish Archaeological News ~ To all our light readers and/or light history fans, this site is super easy to read. It's NOT wiki. It's very enjoyable to read, very down to earth I would say, not long and boring with facts upon facts. I definitely recommend checking it out & a great way to plan your own trip.

Here's a list of search subjects mentioned in this video on this website ~
Mount Nemrut
Karakus Tumulus
Arsameia
Severan (Cendere) Bridge
Yeni Kale Fortress in Eski Kahta

ProTips ~
Hand gestures -
It turns out, some hand gestures are not universal. Who knew. When we were having the dessert, haytali, I raised my hand to indicate I was the one having the tea. The confusion: I raised my hand to indicate I was the one having the tea but it was interpreted as no, stop, not me. I thought that was interesting. Another gesture is using the pointer finger to sign 'one second.' You know the one, hold on, I'll be one sec, yeah that one, not widely known in Turkey. Also, the air check symbol sign to silently indicate you'd like your bill/check at a restaurant... nope... better to air sign your name in your raised hand.

Bathrooms -
If you are looking for a bathroom, it is widely called the WC, toilet, or tuvalet. 'Bathroom' isn't easily understood and forget 'restroom' altogether. An easy way to remember which is the women's & men's bathroom, bay has 3 letters like men and bayan has 5 letters like women. Also, keep a couple Turkish lira just in case there's a charge.

Arsemia Cave -
The cave is supposed to go down the mountain and out the other side as an escape tunnel. With Tarik & Matt leading the way, several people went into this cave. What they found out was it's dangerous, lol. Matt tells the story of how the step height gets more shallow as you go on, making it more of a slide. The erosion caused gravel, which made each step more shallow and slippery the further down they went. It was pitch black, so they used their iphone. Tarik threw a rock into the abyss but they never heard it stop, just grow fainter. They turned around and came out a little nervous.

Their thought later was if it was wet, the steps would be slick. You might slide down to who knows where and not be able to get out. Even further, if the water didn't flow out somewhere, there would be a pool at the bottom... then what. They probably should have this roped off or something.

Purchases ~
As we mentioned in the video, every region or city has its own unique gifts, shoes, foods, copper, etc. Although you can purchase anything essentially anywhere, try to make purchasing decisions based on what that region or city is known for. Once you leave there, you will be able to find what you want, but it may not have the same skillful craftsperson behind it. If you are unsure at that moment, bc let's just say you just got there and you don't know what's what yet, get a card. Businesses are really willing to ship.

A big thank you to Tarik for lining everything up and making this trip possible, to Baran for taking special care of us so we could have a well-instructed & safe trip, and to our beautiful friends, thank you for allowing us to film. It was our first trip filming and we didn't know how to get it done. Of 13 people, we only annoyed two. Not bad.

Adıyaman Arsemeia Archaeological Site

A #Hellenistic ancient city at the crossroads of east and west...
A royal summer residence of kings who expressed their divine authority...
This is Arsemeia, where the god shakes hands with a king!

Arsemeia was the summer residence of the #Commagene kings founded in the 3rd century BC. However, most of the remains were built during the reign of #AntiochusI, who named the city Hierothesion, meaning that it was a sacred area intended for burial, as his father, King Mithridates, was buried there.

In the site you can see reliefs of the king on a ceremonial path that leads to the tomb of Mithridates. The most famous is the #relief carved in stone that shows Antiochus shaking hands with the mythological divine hero #Heracles, illustrating his claim to be a god-king.

Arsemeia awaits your visit to tell you more about the Commagenians and their interesting culture.

Teens in Turkey Try to Guess My Age ???? | Adiyaman, Turkey | Solo Travel | Turkey Travel Vlog (Ep. 15)

I visited Adiyaman, Turkey with a goal of walking to the top of the 'castle' located in the center of the town. After exploring the streets of Adiyaman for about an hour, I eventually made it to the center. There was no castle at the top. Just a few abandoned buildings that used to sell tea...with broken windows.

As I was walking back down the large hill, a couple of teenagers seen me filming and asked me to join them.

We had a large conversation which I didn't record because I pressed the wrong button on my camera. But I did record the part where they tried to guess my age. It was kind of fun. They all thought that I looked younger than I actually am, so that's a good thing.

I enjoyed walking around this small town and interacting with the local people. Interacting with local people is always my favorite part about traveling!

Mount Nemrut Turkey | History of Mount Nemrut

Mount Nemrut Turkey | History of Mount Nemrut

Mount Nemrut in Turkey is one of the most important tourist attractions in the southeast region of Anatolia. This mountain is the focus of attention of many archaeologists and historians. It is a 2,134-metre-high mountain. Where there are huge statues dating back to centuries BC. Some of these stones and statues, especially the stones used in the construction of the royal tombs
Mount Nemrut are reflections of gods of Ancient Greek and Persian religions. If we interpret it with Greek Mythology to make it more familiar, the statues represent Zeus, Apollo and Hercules. as well. In addition to them, there are two lion and two eagle statues, too.
Mount Nemrut happens to be the highest peak of the Mesopotamia and is known to contain the tombs of the King Antiochus I of Commagene. Here you can witness the huge statues of gods, each of which weighs around 6 tons and is 10 meters tall in height. The site of the statues will surely amaze you. it is difficult to imagine the kind of strength used in the making of these statues. Mount Nemrut on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987; it also named the site the 8th Wonder of the World.
If you are to visit Mount Nemrut then you should choose a time between May and September months. This is the time when the roads to the summit are free from snow. However, the roads may get clear from the mid-march or as late as mid-November. But this is something that cannot be guaranteed.
The nearby town of Adıyaman is a popular place for car and bus trips to the site, and one can also travel from there by helicopter. There are also overnight tours running out of Malatya or Kahta. Most visitors time their visit for either sunrise or sunset to experience the true magic of the setting. But this is always the busiest time on the summit.
Mount Nemrut entrance fee is 100 Turkish Lira as of 2023. Museum Pass Turkey is valid in Mount Nemrut, which is an archaeological site affiliated to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism

Perre Archaeological Site, Adıyaman

Here is the Perre Archaeological Site, one of the five big cities of the #Commagene Kingdom!

Perre connected Melitene (Malatya) to the capital Samosata (Samsat). Especially in the #Byzantine period, the city was a crossway between the west and Persian east.

There are numerous beauties to see in Perre: Cisterns, wine workshops, Byzantine wall structures, and more. These all make us think that the city was also an important social center in ancient times.

Let’s get a personal experience then. Does anyone want to socialize in Perre? Raise your hands and get on board. We have more to discover together! (El kaldırma emojisi)

Turkey Royal Tour - Day 10 - Mount Nemrut

Archaeological Paths company invites you to take part in the incredible 14-day journey to discover the archaeology, history, culture, and natural beauty of Turkey - the region rightfully referred to as the Cradle of Civilization.

Our tour will start in Istanbul, the capital of Byzantine empire, continue through the legendary city of Troy and the biblical city of Ephesus, later through the timeless and bare rock landscape of Cappadocia. The site of Catalhuyuk, where we can see the beginning of the urban civilization is one of the first settlements where people lived together, building established houses 7 thousand years B.C! Another attraction is Mount Nemrut, considered to be the eighth wonder of the ancient world. The highlight of the tour is perhaps the most important archaeological discovery of the modern times – Gobekli Tepe, The World's First Temple (10,000 BC).
