Fascinating Places To Visit In Equatorial Guinea ❤️ | Curiosity Juice | Country Tour #55

You will definitely would wish to travel to Equatorial Guinea after watching this video. Equatorial Guinea is an amazing country with abundant fauna and flora. The tourism sector is not fully developed but it is slowly growing, especially in the Bioko Island.

How many of the places you have seen already in this video? Don't forget to mention in comments

There are lots of beaches so that would be a good thing to take in mind when considering sight-seeing.

There is little tourist support in Equatorial Guinea. Prices for a ‘tour’ of the island are shocking ($400/day), but keep talking until you get to $150. Equipment can be a clapped out van. One needs to get at tourism permit in Malabo, Ebebiyín or Mongomo from Ministry of Tourism and submit a detailed letter of request, then wait a minimum of 2 days for permission to be granted.

There are many things to see on both Bioko island and the continent such as Piedra Bere, Oyala city and the Djibloho Hotel, Parque Nacional Altos de Nsork, Parque Nacional Monte Alen among other sights. The Bradt Guide gives ample details (there is an electronic copy worth buying and downloading) on how to navigate the EG bureaucracy to be able to see the country's surprising and little known natural beauty.

Tour to Ureka: Ureka is a small village in the southern region of the island. With a driver it is possible to get there by yourself. You can enjoy the amazing waterfall and the unspoiled beach. This beaches will allow you to walk for hours to become one with the mother nature. In your way, you will find more waterfalls and amazing landscapes. Just be careful with the ride, as the small rivers may increase significantly over a couple of hours. It is always a good idea to check with the locals.

Ilachi Waterfall: Ilachi waterfalls are the longest one in the country with more than 250m tall. They are located close to the city of Moka. After an hour of trekking across the jungle and crossing some rivers, you will see them in fully. Do not be sad if the fog block your view, it disappear quickly. There is an extreme danger of getting lost in the jungle, so hiring any tour operator in Equatorial Guinea become a must.

Annobón Island: this small island was first discovered by the Portuguese, that is the reason they local language is Fa´dambo is similar to Portuguese. With only 17km2, the people on this island have a quite and calm life based on the sea. It is worth it to visit in a Weekend as Ceiba Intercontinental is flying only Fridays and Sundays.

Corisco Island: The secret jewel of Equatorial Guinea, this small island has white beaches and crystalline waters. It is really complex to go as the airport is not open for the public. The only way to get there is by boat weekly or renting a speed boat, which may take 1h and 30 minutes. But, it you have time, it is worth it.

Ebebiyin is known for its large number of bars. They drink a lot of wine.

-Malamba is the most famous local drink in Equatorial Guinea. It is a locally produced sugar cane alcohol drink. Very sweet and tasty. It can be found normally on the streets and markets, rarely on restaurants.
- Osang, it is a traditional tee greatly consume in Equatorial Guinea, it is used from breakfast and to heal some ills. It is similar to Citronella

Equatorial Guinea (Spanish: Guinea Ecuatorial;[a] French: Guinée équatoriale; Portuguese: Guiné Equatorial), officially the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (Spanish: República de Guinea Ecuatorial, French: République de Guinée équatoriale, Portuguese: República da Guiné Equatorial),[b] is a country located in Central Africa, with an area of 28,000 square kilometres (11,000 sq mi). Formerly the colony of Spanish Guinea, its post-independence name evokes its location near both the Equator and the Gulf of Guinea. Equatorial Guinea is the only sovereign African state in which Spanish is an official language. As of 2015, the country had an estimated population of 1,222,245.[12]

Equatorial Guinea consists of two parts, an insular and a mainland region. The insular region consists of the islands of Bioko (formerly Fernando Pó) in the Gulf of Guinea and Annobón, a small volcanic island which is the only part of the country south of the equator. Bioko Island is the northernmost part of Equatorial Guinea and is the site of the country's capital, Malabo. The island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe is located between Bioko and Annobón. The mainland region, Río Muni, is bordered by Cameroon on the north and Gabon on the south and east. It is the location of Bata, Equatorial Guinea's largest city, and Oyala, the country's planned future capital. Rio Muni also includes several small offshore islands, such as Corisco, Elobey Grande, and Elobey Chico. The country is a member of the African Union, Francophonie, OPEC and the CPLP.

Catedral de Santa Isabel Malabo in Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea

Catedral de Santa Isabel Malabo in Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea
The St. Elizabeth's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located on Independencia Avenue in the city of Malabo the capital of Equatorial Guinea, home of the Archdiocese of Malabo. It is considered the largest Christian church in the nation. Its construction began in 1897 with donations from parishioners, commercial companies and the Spanish government, for it was one of its colonies. The architect of the monument was Luis Segarra Llairadó, and was inaugurated in 1916.

It is a cathedral built in neogothic style that emphasizes its façade, flanked by two 40 meter high towers, and a nave with two aisles. It was named after St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

Admire the Neo-Gothic architecture of Catedral de Santa Isabel. Dominating its surroundings with twin 40 m (131 ft) spires, this capacious church serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Malabo. Built from 1897-1916 by the Spaniards, the cathedral features a high vaulted ceiling with excellent acoustics. If visiting during service, you'll have the chance to hear the choir. Take a break at the fountain outside the cathedral--also a popular spot for local children to play soccer. By using our Malabo trip planner , you can arrange your visit to Catedral de Santa Isabel and other attractions in Malabo.

Pico Basilé in Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea

Pico Basilé, located on the island of Bioko, is the tallest mountain of Equatorial Guinea. With an altitude of 3011 m, it is the summit of the largest and highest of three overlapping basaltic shield volcanoes which form the island.

Climb Pico Basile to enjoy sweeping views over the entire island from its highest summit. Accessible by guided tour only, the peak features a statue of the Virgin carrying baby Jesus on her back, in the style of African tribes.

Pico Basilé lies close to the city of Malabo. The very top is used as a broadcast transmitting station for Radio Television Guinea Ecuatorial and microwave relay station for various communication networks.

The peak forms a part of Pico Basilé National Park, created in April 2000. The boundaries of Bioko Norte and Sur runs near the summit.

Bioko was formed along the Cameroon line, a major northeast-trending geologic fault that runs from the Atlantic Ocean into Cameroon. This line includes other volcanic islands in the Gulf of Guinea such as Annobón, Príncipe and São Tomé, along with the massive stratovolcano of Mount Cameroon. Unlike the three other islands which are extinct volcanoes, its last eruption occurred in 1923.

Part of the Cameroon line, the flora and fauna of Pico Basilé and Bioko as a whole are similar to that of the montane regions of adjacent Cameroon and Nigeria. Multiple range restricted species occur on Pico Basilé, and one bird, the Bioko Speirops Zoterops brunneus, is wholly restricted to the volcano's higher elevations.
The island was inhabited in the middle of the first millennium BC by Bantu tribes from the mainland, who formed the Bubi ethnic group. Unlike other islands in the area, Bioko had an indigenous African population. The Bubi speak a Bantu language. The island has probably been inhabited by this or other Bantu-speaking groups since before the 7th century BC.

In 1472, the Portuguese navigator Fernão do Pó was the first European to sight the island while seeking a path to India.

The first ascent of the mountain by Europeans was made by English commanders between 1827 and 1828 under the Owen expedition. Its first official ascent was made in 1839 by the British John Beecroft who was later governor of the island that was once Fernando Po, now Bioko.
