İPSALA Edirne - TRAKYA 'DAYIZ BEYA #3
İpsala, Marmara Bölgesi’nin Trakya kesiminde, Edirne’ye bağlı, yüzölçümü 753 km² olan bir ilçedir. 2022 yılı kayıtlarına göre ilçen nüfusu 26.150’dir.
Kuzeybatıda Yunanistan sınırı olan Meriç Nehri, kuzeydoğuda Uzunköprü ilçesi, doğu ve güneyinde Keşan ilçesi, güneybatıda da Enez ilçesi ile çevrilidir. İl merkezi Edirne’ye olan uzaklığı 108 km’dir.
Edirne’nin güneybatısında yer alan İpsala, alçak tepelerle engebeleşmiş, dalgalı düzlüklerden oluşan doğal bir yapı gösterir. Kuzey ve doğu kesimlerini 100-300 metre arasında değişen yükseltiler, batı kesimini ise aşağı Meriç ovasının bir parçasını oluşturan İpsala Ovası kapsar.
İpsala Sınır Kapısı, Yunanistan hudut sınırında, Yunanistan’ın Kipi gümrüğü karşısında bulunmaktadır. Yunanistan ile Türkiye arasında hem yolcu hem de ticari araç giriş çıkış işlemlerinin aynı anda yapıldığı tek gümrük kapısıdır. Dört gruplu bir vardiya sistemi ile 24 saat hizmet vermektedir.
İpsala adının genel olarak Kypsela’dan türemiş olduğu bilinmektedir. Evliya Çelebi’nin rivayetine göre Süleyman Paşa’nın ordusu burada Cuma namazını kılmak için ilk salâ’yı okuttuğundan adına İpsala denilmiştir.
Hudut kumandanlarından Yüzbaşı Osman Bey’in tetkiklerine nazaran bu memleket bal ve arı diyarı olduğundan Rumlar, Arıyeri anlamına gelen Kipsala demişler ve Osmanlı hâkimiyetinden sonra bu kelime İpsala’ya çevrilmiş.
İpsala’nın varlığının ne kadar eskilere uzandığı bilinmemekle birlikte, İpsala ve civarındaki buluntular ışığında bölgedeki kültürel gelişim süreçlerinin önemli izlerini ortaya koyan yerleşimlerin tarihlendirilmesinin 8000 yıl öncesine aştığı görülmektedir. İpsala sınırları içinde kalan Ortataş Tepe en erken dinî anıt ve belki de Trakya’nın en önemli kült alanlarından biri olarak ön plana çıkmaktadır. Ortataş Tepe üzerinde rastlanan buluntular çok eski bir insan kullanımını gösterdiği kadar, kalkolitik keramik buluntularıyla tarihsel olarak derinlere giden çok erken bir açılım da yapmaktadır.
Büyük Kolonizasyon Dönemi’nde Batı Anadolu’daki Ionia ve Aiolis bölgeleri ile Orta Yunanistan’daki Megara kent-devleti tarafından Trakya’da kurulan koloniler zamanla gelişip büyük birer kent-devleti statüsüne ulaştılar. Bu kent-devletleri arasında İpsala da bulunuyordu.
MÖ 7. yüzyıldan sonra Trakya’da özellikle kıyı bölgelerde yoğunlaşan bir Grek kolonileşmesi söz konusu olduysa da iç bölgelerde yerli Trak kabilelerinin hâkimiyeti çok güçlü bir biçimde kendisini göstermiştir. İpsala, Ptolemaios ve Plinius’da belirtildiği üzere eski bir Trak kentidir. MÖ 4. yüzyılda basılmış paraları bulunmuştur. Trak şehirlerinin en büyük ve en önemlilerinden biri olan Odris Krallığı zamanında İpsala başkent idi. Odrislerin hepsi Meriç ve İpsala’dan Odessos-Varna’ya kadar olan yerlere sahiptiler.
Daha sonraki süreçlerde Kaeniler olarak bilinen kabilelerle Odrisler arasında yapılan savaşlarda, Makedonya savaşlarında Romalılarla yapılan mücadelelerde İpsala’yı her zaman görüyoruz. Hatta bu savaşlardan birinde Traklar adına savaşan Kales adlı bir Atinalı General Makedonya ordularını İpsala önlerinde yok etti (Beksaç, 2012, ss. 107-109).
İpsala, Makedonların hâkimiyeti altındayken güçlü Selevkos Kralı II. Antiochus Theos Trakya’ya geçerek İpsala’ya saldırmıştır. Makedonya Kralı V. Philippos da yayılmacılık girişimleri sırasında İpsala ile birlikte Enez ve Gelibolu’ya sefer düzenlemiştir.
Romalıların Selevkosları MÖ 188’te yenmesi sonucunda, Anadolu seferinden dönerken İpsala’da Trak savaşçıları ordusuna baskın yapmışlardı. Traklarla MÖ 80’li yıllarda çarpışan Romalı general Sulla, Trak Beyi Sadalas’ın elinde bulunan İpsala’ya da geldi.
MÖ 27’de Roma İmparatoru Agustus İpsala-Enez hattını Makedonya ile sınır tesis ederek bölgeyi Roma’ya bağlı otonom bir yönetim oluşturan Traklara bırakmıştır. Uzun süren ayaklanmalar ve karışıklıklar sonunda tüm Trakya’nın içinde bulunduğu bölge Roma İmparatoru Claudius tarafından MS 46 yılında resmen Roma toprağı olarak “Provincia Thracia” adıyla denetim altına alınmıştır. Bu tarihten sonra 3. yüzyıla kadar tüm bölge sakin bir yaşam sürmüştür. MS 10. yüzyıl itibariyle İpsala’nın Metropolitlik olduğu bilinmekte olup, bu durum İpsala’nın önemini göstermektedir.
İpsala’yı ziyaret edenler arasında Doğu Roma İmparatoru Alexios Komnenos da bulunmaktadır. Peçeneklere karşı yürüttüğü savaş sırasında, 1090 yılında İpsala’ya geldiği bilinmektedir.

Keşan, il merkezi olan Edirne’ye 112 km uzaklıktadır.
Batısında Meriç Nehrine kadar uzanan bir ovanın doğu kenarında kuruludur. Güneyinde Ege Denizi’nin Saros Körfezi, batısında Enez ve İpsala İlçeleri, kuzeyinde Uzunköprü ilçesi, doğuda Tekirdağ’ın Malkara İlçesi, güneydoğusunda Çanakkale’nin Gelibolu ilçesi ile çevrilidir.
Yüzölçümü 1087 kilometrekare, Nüfusu 84 bin’dir.
İlçede Akdeniz ikliminin Marmara tipi egemendir. Sonbahar ve kış ayları soğuk ve yağışlı, yaz ayları kurak geçer. Saros Körfezine kıyısı bulunan bölgede iklim daha ılımandır. Özellikle İlkbahar ve sonbahar mevsimleri yağmur, kış mevsimi kar yağışlı geçer.
İlçenin arazisinin büyük bir bölümü genellikle düzlük ve hububat tarlası ile kaplıdır. Bundan başka yüksek olmayan tepelerin birleşmesi ile meydana gelen güney ve güneydoğu bölgeleri orman ile kaplıdır.
İlçenin güneyinde başlayıp Saros Körfezi boyunca güneydoğu kısmına doğru uzanan Korudağı mevcut olup, İlçedeki en yüksek tepesi sadece 371 m yüksekliği ile Hızırilyas Tepesidir.
İlçenin güney kısmında Erikli sahilinde bir kanal ile denize bağlantısı bulunan Tuzla Gölü mevcuttur. Deniz kabardığında göle akar, deniz açıldığında ise gölden denize akıntı olur. Kadıköy ovasını sulayan Kadıköy Baraj Gölü, Çamlıca ve Bahçeköy arazisini sulayan Dokuzdere Baraj Gölü bulunmaktadır.
Keşan, Anadolu'yu Çanakkale Boğazı'ndan Avrupa'ya bağlayan, İstanbul'dan İpsala Gümrük Kapısı'na, oradan Yunanistan'a uzanan yolların kesişme noktası. Günümüzde; E-87, E-84, E-90 karayollarının kavşağında bulunan Keşan, Edirne'nin en büyük ilçesidir. Edirne, İstanbul ve Çanakkale, Keşan'da buluşuyor ve oradan Yunanistan'a ulaşıyor. Avrupa'yı, Anadolu ile buluşturan yolağzındaki Keşan, Çanakkale’ye 117, Edirne'ye 112, İstanbul'a 215 uzaklıkta. Yunanistan'a ise sadece 35 kilometre uzaklıkta.
İlçe halkının tamamına yakını Yunanistan, Bulgaristan ve Yugoslavya göçmenidir. Suluca, Orhaniye, Pırnar köylerinin tamamı ve Beyendik ve Çamlıca köylerinin %50’si Pomak Türkleridir. Yeniceçiftlik Köyü tamamen Boşnak, diğer köylerin tamamı ise Gacal tabir edilen yerli halk’tır.
Çağlar boyunca, orduların ve kültürlerin kıtadan kıtaya taşınmasında, geçiş noktası olarak önemli bir rol oynayan Keşan'ın eski çağlardaki adı 'Zorlanis'. Keşan'da binlerce yıl önce Luviler ve Trak boylarının yaşadığı sanılıyor.
Sırasıyla Grek, Pers ve Makedon egemenliğinde kalan Trakya, MS 1. yüzyıldan itibaren Roma hâkimiyetine geçti. “Via Egnatia” yani Egnatia yolu üzerinde bulunan Keşan, bu dönemde daha da önem kazandı. Çünkü MÖ 145 yılında, 6 metre genişliğinde inşa edilen Egnatia Yolu, Eski Roma ile Yeni Roma’yı yani günümüzün İstanbul'unu birbirine bağlıyordu.
Karadeniz, Ege, Adriyatik arasında önemli bir askeri ve ticari ulaşımı sağlayan Egnatia yolu, Doğu Roma döneminde de önemini korudu. Ortaçağ boyunca Keşan, Balkanlardan gelen Gotların, Avarların, Bulgarların ve Peçeneklerin saldırılarına uğradı. Doğu Roma başkenti Konstantinopolis'in bu akınlardan korunması için MS 7. yüzyıldan itibaren, Keşan'ın ana yol üzerindeki konumu giderek güçlendirildi. Garnizon olarak nüfusu artan kasaba, 10. yüzyıl başında başpiskoposluk düzeyine yükseltildi ve Konstantinopolis'e bağlı bir metropol (anakent) görünümü kazandı.
Doğu Roma’nın iç karışıklıklarından yararlanarak Rumeliye geçen Osmanlılar, 1354'de, önce Gelibolu'yu, kısa süre sonra da Trakya'yı fethettiler. Şehzade Murat, İstanbul'a uzanan yolun denetimini sağlamak için, komutanlarından Gazi Evrenos'u Keşan'ı fethetmekle görevlendirdi. Fethin ardından Roma’nın ünlü Egnatia Yolu Osmanlı denetimine geçti.
'Sol Kol' adıyla, ana güzergâh özelliğine sahip olan yolun üzerindeki Keşan, Osmanlı döneminde de önemli bir geçiş merkezi oldu. Keşan ve çevresine, Anadolu'dan gelen Türkmen toplulukları yerleştirildi.
19. yüzyıldaki, Osmanlı'nın Balkanlardaki bozgunuyla birlikte, Keşan da işgaller ve göçlerle sarsıldı. 1828 ve 1877'de Ruslar tarafından iki kez işgal edildi.1878-79'da Rusların Balkanları işgaliyle başlayan göç dalgasından, Anadolu'ya giden ana yolun üzerinde bulunan Keşan da etkilendi ve göçmenlerin bir bölümü burada yerleşti.
Keşan, son olarak 1. Dünya Savaşı'nın ardından, 30 Temmuz 1920'de Yunanlılar tarafından işgal edildi. Keşan halkı, Ulusal Kurtuluş Savaşı'na katılan 'Trakya Müdafai Hukuk Cemiyeti'ne tüm güçleriyle destek verdi. İlçe, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk önderliğinde kazanılan 'Büyük Zafer'in ardından, 19 Kasım 1922'de bu işgalden kurtuldu.
İlçe merkezinde bulunan Hersekzade Ahmet Paşa Camii, yenilemelerle günümüze sağlam olarak ulaşabilmiş en önemli yapı. 1511'de, kesme taştan inşa edilen tek kubbeli camii, erken Osmanlı mimarisi özelliklerini taşıyor. Giriş kapısı tarafındaki bölümü sonradan eklenen caminin, avlusundaki 12 köşeli mermer şadırvan ve üzerindeki süslemeler dikkat çekiyor. Caminin haziresinde çeşitli dönemlere ait mezarlar ve işlemeli mezar taşları yer alıyor.

Left Tekirdağ to İpsala Sınır Kapısı, which is the border crossing between Turkey and Greece. It was so so hot day and hitchhiking was so tough to get.
The Ipsala Border Gate is located on the Greek border border, opposite the Kip customs of Greece. It is the only customs gate between Greece and Turkey where both passenger and commercial vehicle entry and exit transactions are made at the same time. It provides 24-hour service with a four-group shift system.
Ipsala Border Gate is the important gate of Turkey opening to Greece. The İpsala Border Gate, one of Turkey's most important customs gates, has gained a very comfortable and contemporary appearance with the arrangements made in the past years.
Greece side is called as Kipi Border Crossing Point.

ROAD TRIP WEST COAST of TURKEY | Turkey Travel Guide 2019
In this video we make a ROAD TRIP from Çandarlı to Denizköy direction, along the West Coast of Turkey. During the drive you will see the blue Aegean Sea, the Black Island and the Corci Island but also countless olive trees and beaches. The video will stop before we arrive in Denizköy. That will be another video, coming soon.
I left Istanbul for few days and flight to Izmir Airport, where i started the journey and tried to document few of the moments. Now I am back home in Istanbul and share videos from this short journey to the Aegean Sea, on my YouTube Channel.

Greece plans to remain in lockdown until May 15, 2021, but we can't do it anymore, we need our social life back ????
After 6 months of travel during the lockdown in Greece in the middle of the pandemic, we are going to take the step that everyone thinks impossible, we are going to try to leave Europe in the middle of the lockdown ????????
We know that it is forbidden to travel across regions in Greece because of the lockdown, that the border of Turkey is still closed and that they may not let us enter with the plants and without a PCR test but still, we want to try ????
From the Mani, in the Peloponnese, to Alexandroupoli, one hour away from the Turkish border, avoiding police controls, getting lost on deserted roads and having problems with our insurance; a whole adventure to leave the European Continent ????
Are we going to made it into the border? Will they let us cross it?

The new adventure starts today. We are leaving Greece behind and head for Turkey. In this video, we focus on our border crossing when entering Turkey and share our experience on how the process goes without us having a PCR test which is no more mandatory for Countries like Estonia, United Kingdom Latvia, etc.
We also have an amazing Turkish food experience in the small town of Kesan where we get to try some Turkish raw meatballs. And share our first experiences in Turkey where we will be for the next three months.

We're Chesca and Ben and River (???? ) and we usually live full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. After a year of travelling Europe, from Spain and Portugal to the island of Sicily, the pandemic brought us back home to the UK. Along with a secret project! We spent the winter re-building Sophia into a more sturdy overlanding rig, ready to take us across Africa - our next challenge. However, it's a trip we've now had to postpone. But when the wind changes - adjust your sails! We're now off on an Eastern voyage across to Greece, Turkey & beyond. I hope you enjoy this new adventure as we overland our way East.
