In this video, we begin day 2 of the 7 Cities in 7 Days challenge and explore Konya, Turkey and learn about the history of the whirling dervishes by visiting the Mevlana Museum and learning about the founder, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi better known as Mevlana. After this, we visit Catalhoyuk an ancient 9,000-year-old settlement that is currently still being excavated by archeologists. Visiting Catalhoyuk was incredible because when you see it you know you are looking at one of the oldest archeological sites on the entire planet. Konya, Turkey is fascinating!
7 Cities in 7 Days is an exciting challenge and I can't wait to say what day 3 has in store for us. Stay tuned for part 3 where we head to Karaman, Turkey.

Modern Turkey is the heart of one of the earliest human settlements. Starting from the advent of Greeks, it was later colonized by Romans and renamed Constantinople, a name whose fame spread far and wide. It then became the capital as well as the centre of trade of the next conqueror, the Ottoman Empire, in the middle of the 15th century.
The reason for this history lesson is that Turkey is a country that just resonates with history and culture. Despite its modernity, Turkey still maintains semblances of all the empires that once ruled it. The art and architecture and culture are amalgamations of different eras with the strongest influence being the Byzantine (Roman) and Ottoman rule.
You might not be able to witness the eras it once did, but you can certainly take a step back in time by learning about the historical and cultural significance of modern-day Turkey.
Turkey has been the site of a succession of historical empires. Famous places to visit in Turkey are the Topkapi Palace, Sulaymaniyah Mosque one of the grandest Ottoman mosques and the Byzantine Church which is still a place for religious worship.
One must also visit the famous site of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, it is also famous for its Turkish Hammams. Other historical places to visit include the City of Troy, Ephesus on the Ionian coast, Pergamon, Hatusha the ancient site, Catalhoyuk, Cappadocia and the Diyarbakir fortress which has the highest defensive walls.
The Heritage sites of the world are celebrated for having great cultural or historical significance, and it doesn’t hurt that they are also often majestic and awe-inspiring.

Çatalhöyük: The World's First City ????????
Çatalhöyük is the first known city in the world - the first place where surrounding villages came together and formed a central location and began the sort of urban civilization that dominates the modern world.
The house clusters of Çatalhöyük, characterized by their streetless neighbourhoods, dwellings with roof access, and house types representing a highly circumscribed distribution of activity areas and features according to a clear spatial order aligned on cardinal directions, form an outstanding settlement type of the Neolithic period. The comparable sizes of the dwellings throughout the city illustrate an early type of urban layout based on community and egalitarian ideals.
Çatalhöyük is a very rare example of a well-preserved Neolithic settlement and has been considered one of the key sites for understanding human Prehistory for some decades. The site is exceptional for its substantial size and great longevity of the settlement, its distinctive layout of back-to-back houses with roof access, the presence of a large assemblage of features including wall paintings and reliefs representing the symbolic world of the inhabitants. On the basis of the extensively documented research at the site, the above features make it the most significant human settlement documenting early settled agricultural life of a Neolithic community.
Çatalhöyük provides important evidence of the transition from settled villages to urban agglomeration, which was maintained in the same location for over 2,000 years. It features a unique streetless settlement of houses clustered back to back with roof access into the buildings.

Çatalhöyük, one of the main reasons we planned this whole trip to Türkiye. This is just the intro to my full video, watch the whole thing on my channel. This is an extremely old prehistoric city in the south/central part of Turkey. Though not as old as some of our upcoming stops at Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe. This was, until the discovery of those sites believe to be the oldest human settlement. But as Turkey is absolutely covered in unexcavated Neolithic sites. Who really knows where the oldest city really is. Sadly we didn't have enough time to make it to the archeological museum in Konya to see much of the things that were found at Catalhoyuk. It was still an incredible day.
