The Zohar valley is identified by scholars as the Edom Way mentioned in 2 Kings 3. It hosts the ruins of a fortress and an observation tower.
Mount Sodom is made of 80% salt and is home to the longest single running salt cave in the world.
Lot's Wife Pillar is a salt pillar standing on top of Mount Sodom.

Lot's Wife Pillar of Salt. Mount Sodom / Sodom and Gomorrah.
I visited the Dead Sea and explored the area and found historical place- Mount Sodom and Lot's Wife that is actually a Pillar of Salt.
Sodom and Gomorrah, notoriously sinful cities in the biblical book of Genesis, destroyed by “sulfur and fire” because of their wickedness (Genesis 19:24).
When running from the destruction, Lot's wife looked back at the city, and she became a pillar of salt.

Location
1. Sodom and Gomorrah are located around the eastern side of the Dead Sea.
2. Gomorrah is located at the base of Masada, and Sodom is about 13 miles (20 km.) south of Gomorrah.
3. Though the actual locations of the cities are somewhat disputed, the growing evidence reveals that the locations are quite certain. This evidence is provided in the following section.
Historical Background
1. Josephus, a historian writer during the time of Christ, said the ruins could still be clearly seen in his day.
2. Archeologists have discovered around 1.5 million bodies in graves in these areas around Sodom and Gomorrah.
3. There are a lot of brimstone (old name for sulfur) balls in these cities.
4. This sulfur is unique and different from all other sulfur found in the world.
It is around 90-95% pure.
It is white, unlike any other place in the world.
It is so pure you can light it on fire, and it burns a hot blue flame.
These sulfur balls are not found between the cities.
5. There is a lot of ash in these areas which fits the biblical narrative.
2 Peter 2:6: And if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter.
6. The material of these city formations is calcium sulfate, which is what limestone and sulfur become when heated.
7. The choice building material in Israel is limestone, so these cities fit the scientific evidence as well.
8. There is a lot of charcoal layers found in the strata of these cities.
9. The amount of ash, charcoal, and calcium sulfate reveals overwhelming evidence of extreme heat in these cities.
10. There is also no geothermal activity in these areas to explain the ash, charcoal, and calcium sulfate.
11. In addition, there are many unexplained shapes in these areas that look like buildings, Sphinxes, pyramids, and palaces.
12. These cities existed around 4,000 years ago, so their remains would be difficult to distinguish. Plus, God destroyed and reduced them to ashes as well.
13. These cities fit the location as described in the Bible.
Genesis 13:10: Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar [Zoar has been identified as being south of Sodom and Gomorrah].
14. Because the Dead Sea basin used to be like the Garden of Eden, it was an extremely desirable climate that was great for agriculture and life in general. It was, therefore, a very populated area.
15. The thought of God raining down fire and brimstone upon the cities and peoples in this area is staggering and gives me chills up and down my spine. This fire and brimstone were so hot and intense it destroyed everything in its wake.
16. God also used Sodom and Gomorrah to refer to all of the cities of the Dead Sea basin.

Pillar of Lot's Wife.
Lot's wife is a figure first mentioned in Genesis 19. The book of Genesis describes how she became a pillar of salt after she looked back at Sodom.
Sodom and Gomorrah is this the place?
Where notoriously sinful cities in the biblical book of Genesis, destroyed by “sulfur and fire” because of their wickedness (Genesis 19:24). Sodom and Gomorrah along with the cities of Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar (Bela) constituted the five “cities of the plain,” and they are referenced throughout both the Old and New Testament.
In the Genesis account, God reveals to Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah are to be destroyed for their grave sins (18:20). Abraham pleads for the lives of any righteous people living there, especially the lives of his nephew, Lot, and his family. Abraham seems to negotiate with God on behalf of the righteous in the two cities. God first agrees to spare the cities if 50 righteous people can be found and eventually agrees to spare them if 10 righteous people can be found (18:23–32). Two angels, appearing as men, are sent to Lot in Sodom but are met with a wicked mob who ask for the newcomers. Lot offers the mob his daughters instead, but this only further enrages the mob, who are then struck blind by the angelic guests (19:1–11). Finding only Lot and his family as righteous among the inhabitants, the angels warn Lot to quickly evacuate the city and not look back. As they flee the destruction, Lot’s wife looks back upon the city and is turned into a pillar of salt (19:12–29).
What happened at Sodom was real!
This is filmed by my friend Timothée at the location of Sodom in Israel.
What they found in this special location of desert of white ashes was small pieces of brimstone, even called sulphur.
They took one out from the ground and lit a fire on it.
It burned completely until nothing was left!

Lot's Cave Jordan Touristic Place
Located 3km Southeast of Dead Sea, Remains from the cave date to the early Bronze Age (3300--2000 BC) and an inscription in the cave mentions Lot the nephew of Abraham by name.
A 10-minute climb up a steps, surrounded by the ruins of a small Byzantine church, which is clearly mentioned at Madaba mosaic map showing the church of St. Lot at this location, other excavations revealed a 7th-century Byzantine church with a dedication to 'St. Lot's cave, and with access to the cave through the north.
Early Christians - drawing on Genesis chapter 19 of the Old Testament - believed after their flight from Sinful Sodom, Lot and his daughters lived after fleeing the destruction of Sodom, Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt after looking back.
Lot and his two daughters lived here, the daughters feared they would never find a husband to continue their lineage; they plotted to get their father drunk and seduce him, one of his daughters bore a son named Moab, ancestor of the Moabites, while the other daughter's son, Ben-ami, was the father of the Ammonites.

ISRAEL - Zohar Fortress - Dead Sea. מבצר זוהר
Zohar Fortress ruins near the Dead Sea.
Ruins of a fortress that is dated back to the Israelite Kingdom period (around 1000 B.C). It was built on a high cliff above the Zohar brook. It may also have been used during the Roman, Byzantine and Crusader periods as a tax collecting station for the salt trade route. In those days salt was a very precious commodity as it was the only means to preserve food.
