Best of Hong Kong - What to see in Lamma Island in a Day

Lamma Island has a free-spirited, multicultural vibe and is home to hipsters and creative types. Indie boutiques, craft stores and mellow cafes line Yung Shue Wan Main Street. The island’s hiking trails take in the WWII-era Kamikaze Caves and have sweeping coastal views. Locals and day-trippers unwind on Hung Shing Yeh Beach, or head to Sok Kwu Wan fishing village and its casual seafood eateries.

The Spine of Lamma|10 Easy Hong Kong Walks

In the second episode of 10 Easy Hong Kong Walks, DJ and Muloy embark on a scenic yet leisurely hike across Lamma Island, covering a distance of about 7 km. Starting with lunch at Sok Kwu Wan, the duo traverses various landscapes—coastlines, historical Japanese war tunnels, and hidden beaches—before making their way to Yung Shue Wan by sunset. With DJ's dogs for company and occasional detours for secret caves and panoramic viewpoints, the walk offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. H.K. Hikes【Lamma Island - Yung Shue Wan, Sok Kwu Wan, Fisherfolks' Village | 南丫島 - 榕樹灣, 索罟灣, 漁民文化村】

The Amalfi Coast of Hong Kong, Lamma Island is just a 30 mins boat ride away from the city. The pastel-colored buildings on the cascading slope above the coastline of Yung Shue Wan with stretches of beaches and scrumptious seafood restaurants. It made us feel like we were in Italy for the day. We took around an hour to hike along the Lamma Island Family Walk from Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan to check out the Lamma Fisherfolks’ Village. This floating museum showcases the culture and history of the fishing industry through interactive games and displays. We had a fun time rope fishing and drawing on shells. Also, watching the sunset on a swinging bench.

Hardly ANY Tourists Visit This Island in HONG KONG 🇭🇰

In this video, I head to Hong Kong's lesser-known island... if you thought Hong Kong was busy city life and nothing else, you're wrong!

Lamma Island isn't popular with tourists but it definitely offers a completely different experience. Locally known as Pok Liu Chau, Lamma Island is an old fishing village that maintains its character despite surrounding development.

It's inhabited, has schools and a more traditional economy. I was surprised to visit the beaches in Hong Kong which offer another respite from the hectic city life typical of Hong Kong. You can visit Lamma Island by taking the ferry from Central Pier 4, which runs many times daily. This Lamma Island day trip is a must-do for your visit to Hong Kong in 2024.

0:34 - Ferry from Central Pier to Lamma Island
2:00 - Yung Shue Wan (fishing village)
4:10 - Local lunch
5:00 - Old Village - hiking to the beach
7:55 - Hung Shing Yeh Beach
