Yehud-Monosson (Hebrew: יְהוּד-מוֹנוֹסוֹן) is a city formed by the joint municipality of the town of Yehud and the neighboring communal settlement of Neve Monosson in central Israel. In 2019 the city had a population of 29,928.
יהוד-מונוסון (לשעבר יהוד) היא עיר במזרח בקעת אונו במחוז מרכז. העיר קיבלה את שמה במסגרת איחוד רשויות מקומיות של העיר יהוד והמועצה המקומית הסמוכה לה, נוה אפרים (מונוסון) בשנת 2003.

Jordan River Baptism Site at Qasr al-Yehud – Front Door of Israel- קאסר אל יהוד ונהר הירדן
Between 1967 and 2011, the area of the Jordan River and Dead Sea was a closed military zone. In recent memory, it was opened to people to visit, especially to pilgrims to be baptised. Not only did Joshua and the children cross the Jordan in this vicinity, but Elijah went up to heaven in this locale also. Historically there is a strong case since the Byzantine era, to attribute this locale where John the Baptizer baptised Jesus. Today, the Jordan ebbs and flows, and the peaceful solitude there belies the fact that this is the international military border between Israel and Jordan. People come from all over the world to participate and immerse themselves into the waters of the Jordan River.

For those following in the footsteps of Jesus, you can now get baptized at the official
Jesus baptism site, Qasr al-Yahud, on the Jordan River. The site is currently open only until May 22 (from 9am-3pm daily, free entry) but there is no longer a need to coordinate your visit in advance, despite its location in a closed military zone. The site is planned to be permanently open later in the year, once 7 million shekels worth of preservation work is finally complete.

Qasr al-Yahud (Arabic: قصر اليهود; also Kasser/Qasser al-Yahud/Yehud etc. Castle of the Jews, Hebrew: (קאסר אל יהוד) is the official name of a baptism site in the Jordan River Valley in the West Bank.The site and facilities, under Israeli occupation, are administered by the Israeli Civil Administration and the Israeli Ministry of Tourism as part of a national park.
It is the western part of the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist (Matthew), in Arabic Al-Maghtas, a name which was historically used for the pilgrimage site on both sides of the river. It is also traditionally considered to be the place where the Israelites crossed the Jordan River,and the prophet Elijah ascended to heaven.

Qasr al-Yehud (Castle of the Jews) is a baptismal location on the Jordan River. The site is in the Palestinian Authority of the West Bank 15 km from the northern end of the Dead Sea and southeast of Jericho. Qasr Al-Yehud is believed to be the Biblical site where John baptized Jesus; this symbolized his spiritual birth.
This stretch of the river is also where Joshua led the Israelites to cross the River Jordan into the Promised Land. The Prophet Elijah is said to have ascended to heaven from this location. The area covers both banks of the Jordan River – on the east bank in the Kingdom of Jordan and on the west bank at Qasr al-Yehud.
Visiting Qasr al-Yehud
Qasr al-Yehud was closed to visitors from 1967 to 1994 when the area was a no man’s land. Following the peace agreement between Jordan and Israel the site was reopened in 2011 and restored. It is now accessible to visitors with the addition of handrails and steps leading down into the water.
Several churches have been built near Qasr al-Yehud over the years beginning in the Byzantine era but only ruins have survived. Two new outdoor chapels are now used by visiting Christians of all denominations. Special celebrations take place here on January 6th for the Feast of Epiphany by the Western Churches; January 19th for the Theophany by Eastern Orthodox Churches and during the Easter weekend.
Two Baptismal Sites of the Jordan River
You may have heard of an alternate baptismal site called Yardenit, located in northern Israel near the southern end of the Sea of Galilee. Yardenit is also on the Jordan River and was created as an alternative site for Christian pilgrims who wanted to be baptized in the Jordan but could not reach Qasr al-Yahud due to logistic and security obstacles. Qasr e-Yahud is closer to the geographical location described in the Bible as Jesus’ baptismal site but Yardenit is a good alternative when it is not possible to reach Qasr al-Yahud.

A true gem hidden away in the centre of Rehavia neighbourhood. A display tomb of the Hasmonean era in the 1st century, it's easy to miss as a gem hidden away in the centre of Rehavia neighbourhood, Jerusalem. It is among the earliest tombs of the 2nd Temple era, and a peer of the Kidron Valley tombs, as well as the Sanhedrin Tombs and Tomb of the Kings, just north of the Old City of Jerusalem. Some have surmised that it was the tomb of the High Priest Jason, but graffiti of ships discovered on the front porch probably rules that out. Instead, this Jason was thought to be an important naval commander, given the lavishness of the tomb.
