Walk in Hancheng, a renowned historic city nearly Xi'an|China|韩城|陕西|4K HDR|2021
Hancheng is about 230 kilometers (143 miles) away from the capital city Xi'an, which has a history well over 3,000 years. It is a renowned historic city and contains numerous historic mansions and streets as well as over 140 protected historical sites.
It is the hometown of the great cultural and historical celebrity - Sima Qian, a Western-Han historian. In the early years of Spring and Autumn Period & Warriors States Period(770 BC–221 BC), Confucius' favorite student, Xia, came here to give speeches, thus it was very popular to run schools in Hancheng at that time and people were well educated. Hancheng was called Mini Beijing during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), because numerous of courtyard dwelling in the city and the prosperous economy during that period, just like those in Beijing.
Hancheng could be called a natural ancient architecture museum. There are more than 140 ancient architectural buildings from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and 27 historical sites among which 20 of Yuan Dynasty (1271 --- 1368). The Siheyuan (courtyard dwellings ) of Ming and Qing dynasties can be easily found everywhere in the city.
The national cultural relics protection units include Confucius Temple, Sima Qian Temple, Dang Village, etc., and other natural scenery such as the Dragon Gate (Longmen) Scene Area, are must-sees!
I visited Hancheng in fall and was very attracted by its cultures and history.

Xi'an to Yanliang China...a few minutes of the trip 1990
This is few minutes of a much longer video I took in October 1990 traveling from Xi'an to Yanliang China. Of course...the video quality is not so good..but hopefully you find it interesting. So much in China has changed in many places since that time. What you see and hear was just what I recorded inside a small bus...
China, visiting Kunming around 2000
Merv Thomas visited almost twenty years ago this city in Yunnan in South West China which has grown and grown in the last decades.

Xian China region Oct 1990 Part 2
I put Part 1 on YouTube 9 years ago. An Exciting ride from Xi'an to Yanliang China in 1990.
Several people asked if there was any more video of the region. The answer is yes, but it has taken some time to get the old Hi 8 tapes digitized; here is some of it. The analog video tapes are 31 years old.
I had been that day with 3 colleagues at an aerospace meeting outside Xi'an, perhaps an hour or more away. I don't really know where we were., maybe someone will recognize the area's the video shows on the way back to Xi'an. Part 2 is the return trip ending at the Golden Flower Hotel in Xi'an. Basically I just let the camera run. Its shaky but the little bus was on a bumpy road. Much is driving through corn fields and corn was being dried on the side of the road.
The video is 31 years ago...so much has changed. I have more video and hopefully can post it at another time. I look forward to any comments.

Xi'an - China
Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the northwest of the People's Republic of China, in the center of the Guanzhong Plain. One of the oldest cities in China, the city was known as Chang'an before the Ming dynasty. Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang. Xi'an is the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of interior China especially for the central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational centre of the central-northwest region, with facilities for research and development, national security and China's space exploration program. Xi'an currently holds sub-provincial status, administerring 9 districts and 4 counties. According to the 2010 Census, Xi'an has an urban population of 5,566,711 in its built-up area made of 7 out of 10 districts (all but Yanliang, Lintong and Gaoling not urbanized yet), while the total population of the Municipality is up to 8,467,837. It is the most populous city in Northwest China, as well as one of the three most populous cities in Western China. According to a July 2012 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit, it was recently named as one of the 13 emerging megacities, or megalopolises, in China. The report pinpoints and highlights the demographic and income trends that are shaping these cities' development.

Shenzhen, Market and small Terrakotta Army, 1994 - China Travel Channel
Today, Shenzhen is the city with the highest per capital income in China. This it due to the fact that a special economic zone was created already in 1980. We experienced this city of 1994 and went first to a local meat, fish and vegetable market.
After that we visited a traveling exhibition of the little terracotta army which had been discovered in the common mausoleum of the emperor Jingdi (Liu Qi) and the empress Wang Zhi (Xiaojing) in 1990. Han Jingdi was the fourth emperor of the Western Han Dynasty (206-16 BC). Unlike the terracotta army of Qin Shihuangdi, the size of the statues from the grave of Jingdi is only approx. 1/3 life-size, as a rule 62 cm.

please read more:

China Today 1990 - part 8 Hangzhou.
Part 8 of China Today 1990 centres on the beautiful Yangtze delta city of Hangzhou with it's world-famous West Lake and it's superb gardens. Includes a fascinating overnight train ride to get there and a great meeting with some gregarious Chinese travellers enroute. A boat ride on West Lake then reveals it's amazing beauty and it's secrets and the inspiring history of delightful Hangzhou, then a visit to a tea plantation and to superb Chinese opera in the park and to a wonderful mechanised silk weaving and printing factory, before we embark on a truly delightful train ride to astonishing Shanghai, which we see in detail in the next segment of this nine part journey through a rapidly emerging China in 1990.
