Cozumel Shipwreck Felipe Xicotencatl | Atlantis Submarine Excursion
Viewed the Cozumel Shipwreck Cozumel Shipwreck Felipe Xicotencatl formerly known as the USS Scuffle in a Atlantis Submarine excursion in Cozumel , Mexicoe.
Popularly known as “The Cozumel Wreck”, the Felipe Xicotencatl or C-53 is perhaps one of the most popular wrecks and dive site in Mexico.
The Felipe Xicotencatl was a US Built Admirable-Class minesweeper formerly known as the USS Scuffle built in 1944 for the Navy during World War II.
In 1962 she was decommissioned and sold to the Mexican Navy, and was renamed ARM General Felipe Xicoténcatl (C53)
where she patrolled the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea serving search and rescue missions and patrolling for illegal arms and drug trafficking.
After 55 years of service the ship was finally decommissioned in 1999 and donated to the Cozumel underwater park and sunk in 1999 in 82’ of water to
be turned into an artificial reef .

Cozumel Shipwreck Dive Felipe Xicoténcatl C-53
Footage from a dive at the Felipe Xicoténcatl C 53 shipwreck. The ship was originally serviced by the US Navy during WWII as a minesweeper. It was sold to the Mexican Navy in 1962, and donated to be sunk as a recreational dive site in 1999. Footage is from the interior and exterior. Unfortunately I was not the first group in, so there is a lot of silt. Max depth of the ship is approx 82 feet. Dive length 45 minutes. Filmed with a GoPro Hero 4 Silver.
*For best viewing experience, ensure the video is playing in HD under settings, and quality.

Diving Cozumel: Shipwreck C53 Felipe Xicotencatl
This is a full wreck dive from beginning to end of a decommissioned WWII U.S. Navy minesweeper purchased by the Mexico Navy and sunk off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico. Our dive group was through Scuba Dudes Dive Shop from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and all of our dives were conducted through Papa Hogs Dive Emporium in Cozumel, Mexico. In my opinion, it is a must see if diving Cozumel. Some of the highlights of this dive were coral, schooling fish, lobsters, and various rooms and corridors within the ship.
This dive was conducted at a depth of 50-80ft and with 14 PADI Certified divers. The video was captured on a GoPro Hero7 Black.

Atlantis Submarine ride to C53 sunken ship “Felipe Xicotencatl” in Cozumel, Mexico
A fun ride with the kids and Rafi's reaction to the shipwreck is priceless! You can hear the tour guide call it the Mexican Titanic. The C53 shipwreck “Felipe Xicotencatl” is an old mine sweeper that was sunk on purpose to make an artificial reef.
