Witley Court and Gardens, The Full Tour
After being left in decay for 40 years, Witley Court and Gardens, now in the care of English Heritage, is being lovingly tended to bring back some of the former glory and a sense of what it must have been like before a great fire left it in the ruins it is today. Witley Court and Gardens were first bought by a rich ironmaster called Thomas Foley. His Grandson, also called Thomas, became the 1st Baron Foley and the property remained in the family through to the 3rd Baron, again called Thomas. During their ownership much expansion went on since the early days of the original Jacobean house.
Follow up owners to Witley Court and Gardens include the Earls of Dudley and a Kidderminster carpet manufacturer. The attached Church of Saint Michael and All Angels survived the great fire as will be covered in a separate video. The fully restored Perseus and Andromeda fountain operates for 15 minutes in every hour, on the hour.

They were designed by Nesfield and executed by James[12] and William Forsyth,[13] who were carrying out sculpture in the house and the church. The largest, the Perseus and Andromeda Fountain, has been restored to working order by English Heritage.

Great Witley Church, Britain's Finest Baroque Church
Continuing my visit to Witley Court, a look around the adjacent Great Witley Church, St Michael and all Angels, which has to be the finest example of Italian Baroque churches in Britain. The ceiling paintings, the organ and the windows were all bought by Lord Foley from the Duke of Chandos' chapel at Cannons Palace, Edgeware.

It was undertaken on day 2 of a Worcestershire self catering cottage holiday in Bewdley in the Heart Of England in the month of June 2011.

A hundred years ago, Witley Court in Worcestershire, UK was one of England's great country houses, hosting many extravagant parties. Today it is a spectacular ruin, the result of a disastrous fire in 1937. Restoration work to the West Wing has made several new rooms accessible to the public.
The Perseus and Andromeda fountain,restored by English Heritage over the past few years, is now fired up during the summer, and is featured in this video.

A circular walk around Abberley & Great Witley in Worcestershire. The walk was around 5 miles long so I've obviously just included some snippets here. Very enjoyable walk but a VERY steep climb to the top of Abberley Hill near the beginning. Includes Abberley Clock Tower etc. Thanks for watching :)
