Wigton Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Cumbria (although historically in Cumberland), and around 10 miles southwest of Carlisle, is the town of Wigton.
The name 'Wigton' is derived from Old English: 'Wicga's tūn', meaning Wicga's farm/settlement, where Wicga was a Saxon chieftain. Geographically it is located between the Lakeland Fells and Solway Firth, the latter of which forms part of the border between England and Scotland.
In 1262 Wigton was granted a market charter during the reign of Henry III. Industries historically included agriculture, tanning and linen weaving. At the heart of the town is St Mary's Church which dates from 1788, replacing a previous church from the 12th century on the same site.
In 1843 the railway arrived in Wigton, courtesy of the Maryport and Carlisle Railway. Today this is situated on the Cumbrian Coast Line between Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle, the latter of which takes around 20 minutes to reach from here.
At the northern end of the high street is the George Moore Memorial Fountain. This granite fountain was placed here in 1872 dedicated to the memory of his first wife, Eliza Ray. George Moore was a lace merchant and philanthropist, who served his apprenticeship as a draper in Wigton. On each side of the fountain is a bronze relief by pre-Raphaelite sculptor Thomas Woolner showing the Acts of Mercy, 'Visiting the Afflicted', 'Clothing the Naked', 'Instructing the Ignorant' and 'Feeding the Hungry'. Above each sculpture is a carving of the face of Mrs Eliza Moore surrounded by leaves.
In 1974 the historical counties of Cumberland and Westmorland, along with the Furness Peninsula of Lancashire, merged to form the ceremonial county of Cumbria. Since then, Wigton has been part of the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria.
TV broadcaster and author Melvyn Bragg was born in nearby Carlisle and raised in Wigton.

Ulverston: The Perfect Cumbrian Town. A Short Tour of this Vibrant South Lakeland Destination
Experience the independent spirit of this unique little market town in South Lakeland, Cumbria.
Ulverston is a rewarding tourist destination and an even better place to live, boasting a thriving cultural scene and an enviable setting between the glistening expanse of Morecambe Bay and the drama of the Lake District fells. Is there a more perfect town in the whole of Cumbria (or am I just biased as it's my local town)?!
A big thank you to Lauren at Bluebell & Ivy and Rosie at Gallery 68 for generously agreeing to appear in the film.

Places to see in ( Carlisle - UK )
Carlisle is a city and the county town of Cumbria. Historically in Cumberland, Carlisle is also the administrative centre of the City of Carlisle district in North West England. Carlisle is located at the confluence of the rivers Eden, Caldew and Petteril, 10 miles (16 km) south of the Scottish border. Carlisle is the largest settlement in the county of Cumbria, and serves as the administrative centre for both Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council.
Carlisle became an important military stronghold; Carlisle Castle, still relatively intact, was built in 1092 by William Rufus, and once served as a prison for Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle now houses the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and the Border Regiment Museum. In the early 12th century, Henry I allowed the foundation of a priory in Carlisle. The town gained the status of a city when its diocese was formed in 1133, and the priory became Carlisle Cathedral.
The introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution began a process of socioeconomic transformation in Carlisle, which developed into a densely populated mill town. This, combined with its strategic position, allowed for the development of Carlisle as an important railway town, with seven railway companies sharing Carlisle railway station.
Nicknamed the Great Border City, Carlisle today is the main cultural, commercial and industrial centre for north Cumbria. It is home to the main campuses of the University of Cumbria and a variety of museums and heritage centres. The former County Borough of Carlisle had held city status until the Local Government Act 1972 was enacted in 1974.

Wigton Cumbria
The triangular market place was the centre of the Medieval town of Wigton, which received its market charter in 1262. On the site where the memorial fountain now is, stood a wooden Market Cross. Many of the buildings around the market place are of Georgian style, and the upper storeys have altered little.
In the market place is an elaborate 19th Century fountain erected in 1872 by George Moore of Whitehall in Mealsgate, in memory of his wife. It is built of granite.
Wigton is Wicga's tūn, Wicga is an Old English pre-7th-century personal name meaning a beetle (as in earwig), while tūn is Old English for a demarcated plot, a homestead or village, so Wigton is the hamlet belonging to Wicga

Places to see in ( Silloth - UK )
Silloth is a port town and civil parish in Cumbria, England. It sits on the shoreline of the Solway Firth, 22 miles west of Carlisle. The town of Maryport lies 12 miles (19 km) to the south, down the B5300 coast road which also passes through the villages of Blitterlees, Beckfoot, Mawbray, and Allonby. Wigton is twelve miles to the east, along the B5302 road, which also passes through the village of Abbeytown, 5.5 miles (8.9 km) to the south-east. Silloth has a population of 2,932, reducing slightly to 2,906 at the 2011 Census.
Historically a part of Cumberland, the town is one of the finest examples of a Victorian seaside resort in the North of England. Silloth developed in the 1860s onwards around the terminus of the railway from Carlisle and associated docks which had begun construction in 1855 to replace Port Carlisle as the deep-water port for Carlisle.
For the first time workers from the factories of Carlisle were presented with affordable access to the seaside and the town flourished as a destination for day trippers. The town reached the peak of its popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Recent years have seen a great deal of development with many of the sea facing properties having received facelifts. The main central attraction is a large expansive green that is utilised throughout the year to host various events and activities.
Silloth's largest church is Christ Church, situated in a complete rectangular plot which was planned into the original town design. It is on a commanding site at Criffel Street and the body of the church was completed in 1870. The porch tower and large broach spire were completed later in 1878, and house a ring of 8 bells which are chimed. It was designed by Carlisle architect Charles John Ferguson in the Gothic style, and is built with an interesting mix of local sandstone, and granite which was brought by the North British Railway from Newry in Northern Ireland. Much of the interior is faced with yellow brick trimmed with red. Several other churches and chapels of various denominations are also located within the town or its outskirts.
One of the busiest ports in Cumbria, Silloth is owned and operated by Associated British Ports. The main cargoes are wheat, fertiliser, molasses, forest products and general cargo. Tourism is a major economic player in Silloth, with dozens of large and small static and touring caravan parks located within a ten-mile (16 km) radius of the town centre. This is responsible for the tremendous growth in the population on most days throughout the summer months.
Amenities include a championship golf course ranked amongst the country's top fifty courses, several hotels and bed and breakfasts, public houses, tea rooms and eateries. There is a local 'free' newspaper published monthly entitled 'The Solway Buzz' - distributed to households in the area by a team of volunteers - which covers news and events in Silloth and the surrounding area.
Silloth also prides itself in its coastline along the Solway Firth which has been described in one of the country's leading sea fishing publications, Total Sea Angling, as having the best flatfish fishing coastline in the country, with over 20 miles (32 km) of beach and promenade to choose from. Bait and equipment are also available locally. Wind and kite surfing are also popular along the coast at Allonby, 8 miles (13 km) from Silloth town centre.
( Silloth - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Silloth . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Silloth - UK

Self Catering Holidays in Wigton
Wallace Lane Farm is situated high in the magnificent Northern lakes, on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, close to the villages of Caldbeck, Hesket Newmarket and Uldale.
Our nearest village is Caldbeck, which has to be one of Cumbria’s most beautiful villages.
The name Caldbeck comes from the Old Norse word Kaldr bekkr which means cold beck or cold stream. It was the river and its tributaries which provided not only water for the village, but also the power for the many mills of the late 18th and 19th centuries which allowed the village to prosper.
We are also situated on the edge of Caldbeck fells which are famed for their beautiful views and fantastic hunting and adventure.
The churchyard in Caldbeck contains the grave of John Peel, one of the county’s most famous characters, born in Parkend Caldbeck in 1776. As a huntsman and merrymaker he had no equal and became nationally renowned after a song was written about him and performed in London in 1869.
As a base for an enjoyable Lakeland holiday, Wallace Lane Farm is well situated. Within a 10 minute drive are the villages of Caldbeck, Hesket Newmarket, Uldale, Rosley, Bolton new Houses, Dalston and the market town of Wigton.

EP15 Seeing England: a foodie visit to LAKE DISTRICT, Roadtrip to London
After a fantastic week in Scotland it was time to head home to London. We decided to make another road trip out of the drive stopping off at
the Lake District, a Victorian seaside town, a monkey forest and a sheep dairy over a couple of days.
1. Midtown Milkhouse
3 Hodden Ct, Caldbeck, Wigton CA7 8EL
Our first stop in the Lake District was Midtown Milkhouse where you can get farm fresh milk from a vending machine and turn it into a milkshake!
2. The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop
Church Cottage, Grasmere, Ambleside LA22 9SW
Our next stop was the lovely town of Grasmere to try the famous gingerbread!
The drive down passed some gorgeous scenery that the camera does not do justice.
The queue for the gingerbread was long but this gave us time to soak in the atmosphere and admire the shop which used to be
the village school for over 220 years.
Inside the shop they sell a variety of ginger themed goods and the people there were super friendly.
3. Cartmel Village Shop (for sticky toffee pudding)
Parkgate House, 1 The Square, Cartmel LA11 6QB
Our last stop was the delicous town of Cartmel.
Not only does the village boast to being the birthplace of sticky toffee pudding but it's also a lovely place to wander around.
It's also home to 2* l'enclume aswell as a host of other places which make it a foodies paradise.
4. Rogan and Co
Devonshire House, Devonshire Square, Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6QD
For dinner we booked the supposidly more casual Rogan and Co.
After dinner we headed down to Morecombe Bay where we spent the night.
5. The Morecambe Hotel
25 Lord St, Morecambe LA4 5HX
Morecombe Bay is a classic Victorian seaside town which is not as popular as it's more famous neighbours making it less crowded.
It made me feel nostalgic for those day trips to the seaside with my parents when I was a kid.
6. Trentham Monkey Forest
Trentham Estate, Stone Rd, Tittensor, Stoke-on-Trent ST12 9HR
7. Bevistan Dairy
Valley View Farm, Turvey Rd, Carlton, Bedfordshire MK43 7LH

17. Windy ride from Beckfoot to The Cottage Pie Shop in Dearham, Cumbria
Very short video of a ride from Beckfoot on the Solway coast to Maryport then Dearham. It was a really blustery day and I was trying out the audio recorder that I'll use if the rains come (which they will) when I'm out trying to 'motovlog' and don't want the GoPro to get water inside by using the external mic adapter that would mean removing the waterproof doors on the camera body. This was the first time using the audio recorder so I set it to auto. The audio isn't the best but it's a test to find out what works and what doesn't work.
The video was filmed in 1080p 60fps without image stabilisation. The videos posted are mainly tests to see what works and what doesn't sound and picture wise when uploaded to YouTube before I finally settle on one setting for all videos.
