Bradgate Park is pretty much THE park of Leicester! No trip to Bradgate Park is complete without swimming in the 'no swim' areas and stumbling up to visit Old John; which sits predominently on the top of the hill in the park. They have a new addition to the park now, a small museum which was opened by David Attenborough himself!
Bradgate Park (local pronunciation: /ˌbrædɡʌt/) is a public park in Charnwood Forest, in Leicestershire, England, northwest of Leicester. It covers 850 acres (340 hectares). The park lies between the villages of Newtown Linford, Anstey, Cropston, Woodhouse Eaves and Swithland. The River Lin runs through the park, flowing into Cropston Reservoir which was constructed on part of the park. To the north-east lies Swithland Wood. The park's two well known landmarks, Old John and the war memorial, both lie just above the 210 m (690 ft) contour.

Foxton Locks - British Narrow Boats & Canals (Foxton, Leicestershire, UK)
We decided to visit Foxton Locks! It's a really cool place in Leicestershire where you can see a staircase of canal locks, enjoy the sun and drink at the pub! There are also shops nearby too!

Foxton Locks (grid reference SP691895) are ten canal locks consisting of two staircases each of five locks, located on the Leicester line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough. They are named after the nearby village of Foxton.
They form the northern terminus of a 20-mile summit level that passes Husbands Bosworth, Crick and ends with the Watford flight
Alongside the locks is the site of the Foxton Inclined Plane, built in 1900 to resolve the operational restrictions imposed by the lock flight. It was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years. It was dismantled in 1926, but a project to re-create it commenced in the 2000s, since the locks remain a bottleneck for boat traffic.

NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE PARISH #3: APPLEBY MAGNA
Welcome to Appleby Magna – one of the largest villages and parishes in the North West Leicestershire district. This lies just to the East of the M42 and A42 and includes the small hamlets of Appleby Parva and Little Wigston. Collectively, these settlements are often referred to as just Appleby. The name is exactly what it sounds like – “Apple settlement” – suggesting there may well have been a few orchards around here at one time.
Historically, Appleby was one of the largest and wealthiest parishes in Leicestershire, a fact reflected by its large church. The parish lies on an ancient boundary between the kingdom of Mercia and the Danelaw. In fact the boundary ran right through it, causing some local ethnic divide. Appleby Magna was an Anglo Saxon settlement, but Appleby Parva was Danish and was inhabited by a small group of Normans.
No episode about Appleby Magna would be complete without a mention of the most famous family in these parts – the Moores. They had a considerable influence on this part of Leicestershire, and many old buildings here were built by them. Perhaps the most notable would be a school, designed by Christopher Wren and left to the village by the former Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Moore.
Appleby has one of the most curious street names in the UK too – Duck Lake – although I can explain that. Come with me and find out what it means!
