Best Things to Do in Herefordshire, England | Black Hill, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye and Ludlow
Hey everyone! Earlier this year we spent one week in Herefordshire and the surrounding area for a big family get together. In this video we show you the best things to do in Herefordshire, England including Black Hill, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye and Ludlow. (And yes we know Hay-on-Wye and Ludlow aren't technically in Herefordshire but they are easily doable as a day trip from Hereford and are well worth a visit if you are in the area!)
Herefordshire is a county of England bordering South Wales and is full of rolling farmland, wooded hills and beautiful river valleys. We have a whole video planned for the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is why it doesn't feature in this one! But as you will soon see you should definitely add it to your list of places to see in Herefordshire along with the locations in this video!
Hope you enjoy and thanks for all your support! :)

Places to see in ( Llangollen - UK )
Places to see in ( Llangollen - UK )
Llangollen is a small town and community in Denbighshire, north-east Wales, situated on the River Dee and on the edge of the Berwyn mountains. On the outskirts of the town is Plas Newydd (New Mansion or New Place), from 1780 the home of the Ladies of Llangollen, the Honourable Sarah Ponsonby, Lady Eleanor Butler and their maid Mary Caryll. The Pillar of Eliseg is another old monument.
The bridge at Llangollen was built across the Dee in the 16th century to replace a previous bridge built in about 1345 by John Trevor, of Trevor Hall (later Bishop of St Asaph), which replaced an even earlier bridge built in the reign of King Henry I. In the 1860s the present bridge was extended by adding an extra arch (to cross the new railway) and a two storey stone tower with a castellated parapet. This became a café before being demolished in the 1930s to improve traffic flow. The bridge was also widened in 1873 and again in 1968, using masonry which blended in with the older structure. It is a Grade I listed structure and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Valle Crucis Abbey was established at Llantysilio in about 1201, under the patronage of Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor of Castell Dinas Brân. Today Llangollen relies heavily on the tourist industry, but still gains substantial income from farming. Most of the farms in the hills around the town were sheep farms, and the domestic wool industry, both spinning and weaving, was important in the area for centuries. Several factories were later built along the banks of the River Dee, where both wool and cotton were processed. The water mill opposite Llangollen railway station is over 600 years old, and was originally used to grind flour for local farmers.
Llangollen was an important coaching stop for the mail coach on the old mail route, now the A5 road from London to Holyhead. GHA Coaches and their subsidiary Bryn Melyn are the primary providers of bus services in Llangollen . 10-mile stretch of the line has been restored between Llangollen and Corwen and operates as the Llangollen Railway, a tourist attraction. In 2002, the Rainhill locomotive trials were re-staged on the line.
( Llangollen - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Llangollen . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Llangollen - UK

Places to see in ( Whitchurch - UK )
Whitchurch is a market town in Shropshire, England, 2 miles east of the Welsh border on the North Shropshire Plain in the Welsh Marches, close to the Cheshire border. It is the oldest continuously inhabited town in Shropshire. The town is 20 miles (30 km) north of the county town of Shrewsbury, 20 miles (30 km) south of Chester, and 15 miles (24 km) east of Wrexham.
In 1066, Whitchurch was called Weston, likely named for its location on the western edge of Shropshire, bordering the north Welsh Marches. By the time Whitchurch was recorded in the Doomsday Book, a 1086 survey of England, Whitchurch was held by William de Warenne, 1st Earl of Surrey, and of Roger de Montgomery. At that time, it was part of the hundred of Hodnet, Shropshire in 1086.
Whitchurch has roads to Wrexham, Nantwich, Chester and Shrewsbury; the A41/A49 bypass opened in 1992. Whitchurch railway station is on the former London and North Western (later part of the LMS) line from Crewe down the English side of the Welsh border (the Welsh Marches Line) toward Cardiff. However, Whitchurch was once the junction for the main line of the Cambrian Railways, but the section from Whitchurch to Welshpool (Buttington Junction), via Ellesmere, Whittington, Oswestry and Llanymynech, closed on 18 January 1965 in favour of the more viable alternative route via Shrewsbury.
Whitchurch was also junction for the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway or Chester to Whitchurch branch line, another part of the London and North Western, and running via Malpas. As well as its own passenger and goods services, this line was a useful short cut for goods traffic to and from Chester and North Wales avoiding Crewe, and some long-distance passenger services were occasionally diverted this way. Although the line closed to regular services on 16 September 1957, the diverted passenger trains continued until 8 December 1963. Whitchurch has its own short arm of the Llangollen Canal and the town centre can be reached by a walk of approximately 1 mile along the Whitchurch Waterways Country Park, the last stage of the Sandstone Trail. The Whitchurch Arm is managed by a charity group of local volunteers.

Whitchurch is a Shropshire market town of about 10k population, located just a couple of miles from the Welsh border. It began as a Roman fortification protecting the road to Chester. I visited on a Bank Holiday Monday when just about everything was closed!
