As one of the most defining features of the park, the tour offers a rare glimpse into the world of movie magic, where classic films and modern blockbusters have been brought to life. When guests step onto the open-air tram, they are transported into the vast, sprawling Universal backlot, where famous sets like the Psycho house, Jaws lagoon, and the historic courthouse square from *Back to the Future* immediately evoke a sense of nostalgia and awe. These sets have been meticulously preserved, often repurposed, and continue to serve as the backdrop for new productions, showcasing the ingenuity and versatility of Hollywood’s finest production designers.

The tour’s dynamic experience goes beyond just observing famous landmarks. St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, Australia

On Saturday, 5th August 2023, My Mother and I visited St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney and heard the 9am mass.

Below is some information I found on Wikipedia in regard to the same:
The Cathedral Church and Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians (colloquially, St Mary's Cathedral) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney, currently Anthony Fisher OP. It is dedicated to the Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians, Patroness of Australia and holds the title and dignity of a minor basilica, bestowed upon it by Pope Pius XI on 4 August 1932.
St Mary's has the greatest length of any church in Australia (although it is neither the tallest nor largest overall). It is located on College Street near the eastern border of the Sydney central business district in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. Despite the high-rise development of the central business district, the cathedral's imposing structure and twin spires make it a landmark from every direction. In 2008, St Mary's Cathedral became the focus of World Youth Day 2008 and was visited by Pope Benedict XVI who consecrated the new forward altar. The cathedral was designed by William Wardell and built from 1866 to 1928. It is also known as St Mary's Catholic Cathedral and Chapter House, Saint Mary's Cathedral and St Mary's Cathedral. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 3 September 2004.

contribute to an understanding of the cultural or natural history of New South Wales.

A major sandstone building in Sydney, the physical fabric of the cathedral demonstrates the quality of craft, engineering skill and sense of place achieved in yellow block sandstone structures in Victorian Sydney. The completion of the southern front end of the cathedral by Hennessy Hennessy and Co. demonstrates innovative building technology at the beginning of this century, especially in the techniques employed in the construction of the foundations and crypt.

The place possesses uncommon, rare or endangered aspects of the cultural or natural history of New South Wales.

St Mary's is a rare example of the 19th century Gothic style Catholic cathedral. The chapter hall is the only remaining intact building relating to John Bede Polding, the first Archbishop of Australia.
The place is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a class of cultural or natural places/environments in New South Wales.
St Mary's Cathedral and Chapter House has represented the centre of Catholic worship and culture in Sydney (and arguably the State) since its construction in the 1870s.
St Mary's is full of treasures and devotional objects. Around the walls of the aisles are located the Stations of the Cross, painted in oils by L. Chovet of Paris and selected for St Mary's by Cardinal Moran in 1885. In the western transept is a marble replica of Michelangelo's Pietà, the original of which is in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome. This sculpture was brought to Australia for display in David Jones Ltd. department store and was later donated to the cathedral.

Located previously in the crypt, where it was touched in the evening by the setting sun, was the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, a realistic depiction of a dead soldier sculpted by George Washington Lambert. Although previously visible to the public from above, the tomb has now been moved into the aisle of the cathedral, to give the public greater access to it.

The crypt has an extensive mosaic floor, the achievement of Peter Melocco and his firm. This design has as its foundation a cross elaborately decorated like a vast Celtic illuminated manuscript, with rondels showing the Days of Creation and the titles of the Virgin Mary.
St Mary's Cathedral is unusual among large cathedrals in that, because of its size, the plan of the city around it and the fall of the land, it is oriented in a north–south direction rather than the usual east–west. The liturgical East End is at the north and the West Front is to the south.

The plan of the cathedral is a conventional English cathedral plan, cruciform in shape, with a tower over the crossing of the nave and transepts and twin towers at the West Front (in this case, the south). The chancel is square-ended, like the chancels of Lincoln, York and several other English cathedrals. There are three processional doors in the south with additional entrances conveniently placed in the transept facades so that they lead from Hyde Park and from the presbytery buildings and school adjacent the cathedral.
The architecture is typical of the Gothic Revival of the 19th century, inspired by the journals of the Cambridge Camden Society, the writings of John Ruskin and the architecture of Augustus Welby Pugin.

Beauty Of London - Amazing aerial view

London, the capital city of England, is one of the most sought after destinations for tourists and travelers all over the world. Throughout London, every street and every lane is constructed thoughtfully to reflect on its years of tradition. There are abundant places of interests, for people of all age groups, to visit in London. The most important of the lot that should not be missed are described here.

Houses of Parliament
The Houses of Parliament is a cultural heritage of London. It is located inside the Palace of Westminster and it is open to all, either the locals or foreigners. This is the headquarters of both the Chambers of the Parliament and is situated on the north bank of River Thames in the City of Westminster. This building was partially destroyed by a horrific fire in 1834. However, the Westminster Hall constructed in 1097, was saved from the fire. This was the exact place where William Wallace, Guy Fawkes and King Charles the First stood for a trial. After the 19th century, it was re-constructed to its present state. It has built based on the Gothic architecture and the interiors were designed by Charles Barry and Augustus Welby Pugin.

Although the Royal Family does not reside here any more, following a fire in the year 1529, it has still retained its official status of a royal palace.

Regent’s Park
This is one of the most popular parks in London and is a popular recreation area. It has an artificial lake, tennis courts, cricket grounds, children’s playgrounds. It also houses the London Zoo which is located on the North side of the park. The best time to visit this park is in the early morning hours or in the late evening. Also, this is the perfect place to spend some time with your loved ones.

Royal Opera House
London is very famous for its stage plays. Royal Opera House is the best theatre to visit for all those who love drama and stage shows. This theatre houses Royal Ballet and Royal Opera where you can enjoy some of the world’s best plays and famous characters portrayed by some prominent actors.

There are many things that can make a journey comfortable and enjoyable. A nice, luxurious and affordable accommodation is one of the most important needs. There are many hotels in London but only a few that can provide ultimate comfort for a reasonable price.

Now it is possible to book luxury hotels online and thereby avoid a last minute hunt for a good luxury hotel. This can be done through the online portal luxuryhotelsgroup.com. Here you will find the description of all the facilities and amenities provided by each hotel, its ratings, reviews and the availability of rooms.

With such detailed information available, it should be easy for users to choose a proper luxury hotel from the available choices. Also, it is always better to book a room in a luxury hotel before beginning your journey as this would help in avoiding the tension of finding a room after arriving at your destination. Reserving your room online is definitely a safe option.

London is one of the best places for a vacation. Hence plan your trip and enjoy a tour through London. And of course, don’t forget to book your hotels online before starting your journey.

Designed by Augustus Pugin (Big Ben architect) in 1841-42 is one of the only three Pugin churches in London.
Augustus designed the church as a whole, and oversaw the building of the nave and aisles, the east window, and the Lady Chapel. He also designed the original part of the presbytery and the sacristy, and the passage connecting the two.

Edward Welby Pugin (1834 -1875)The eldest son of Augustus Pugin
Edward designed the original two-storey parish school. His work is still the core of the community centre now named Pugin Place, though it has been extended at both front and rear.

Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812 –1852) was an English architect, designer, artist and critic who is principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture.

His work culminated in designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster and its iconic clock tower, later renamed the Elizabeth Tower, which houses the bell known as Big Ben.

Pugin designed many churches in England, and some in Ireland and Australia.

Woolwich is a district in southeast London, England, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The district's location on the River Thames led to its status as an important naval, military and industrial area; a role that was maintained throughout the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and most of the 20th century.
After several decades of economic hardship and social deprivation, the area is now subject to several large-scale urban renewal projects.

His work culminated in designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster and its iconic clock tower, later renamed the Elizabeth Tower, which houses the bell known as Big Ben.

Pugin designed many churches in England, and some in Ireland and Australia.

In February 1852, while travelling with his son Edward by train, Pugin suffered a total breakdown and arrived in London unable to recognise anyone or speak coherently.

He was transferred to the Royal Bethlem Hospital, also known as Bedlam.
At that time, Bethlem Hospital was opposite St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, one of Pugin's major buildings.

Where he had married his third wife, Jane, in 1848.

Jane and a doctor removed Pugin from Bedlam and took him to a private house in Hammersmith where they attempted therapy, and he recovered sufficiently to recognise his wife.

He died in 1852.

“Big Ben” was completed to Pugin’s design.

It could seat about 3,000 people, and the building was 240 feet long by 72 feet wide.

The cathedral was erected in 1848 and reopened after extensive war damage in 1958.

Pugin’s original design include taller towers and a spire.
Neither under when built nor when rebuilt was there sufficient funding, and these elements remain unrealised.

It hosted notable visitors: the Dalai Lama (1998) and Pope John Paul II (1982), the latter being depicted in one of the Cathedral's stained-glass windows.

Tour Operations & The ‘New Normal’

The COVID-19 crisis is having a profound impact on how tour companies can ‘re-start’ once they are officially allowed to open. Learn how two key tour operators located along the Eastern Seaboard, have analyzed their business and developed a post-COVID-19 plan to open tour operations while meeting the constraints of the ‘New Normal’. These two companies are likely to be some of the first in North America to receive tourists later this spring. John Welby, Historic Tours of America will present on overview of their tour business situated in various US cities. He will explain how they have coordinated with the CDC to comply with sanitation standards/guidelines and how they are addressing the operational challenges of social distancing to keep their staff and guests safe. Dennis Campbell is founder and CEO of Ambassatours Gray Line, eastern Canada's largest land and water sightseeing tour company. He will present Ambassatours’ multi-faceted operation which includes buses, boats, amphibious vessel, a high volume restaurant and gift shop. He will discuss how they radically adjusted their business plan to maximize both revenue and guests satisfaction while also meeting the sanitation requirements of Health Canada and ensuring the safety of their guests and front-line teams. These two business leaders are at the fore-front of this uncharted arena of accommodating tourist post-pandemic.

They decided to add attractions to their restaurant to increase the draw of local tourism. In 1972 they decided to have a cuckoo clock constructed.. Measuring 23 feet, 6 inches tall, 24 feet wide and 13 feet, 6 inches deep it's been called the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock and is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records.

In August of 2007 the non-functioning clock was moved from the hill behind the restaurant to a new ground level location. It was also given a makeover courtesy of Hampton Hotels Save A Landmark Program. In 2009 it was auctioned off. Mark Coblentz of Walnut Creek Cheese notoriety. Coblentz purchased the clock in hopes to keep the clock in the area. Sugarcreek businessman Lavon Daugherty approached Coblentz with the idea of moving the cuckoo to Sugarcreek as an icon of the local Swiss culture.

Canterbury Cathedral - A Must See || Enchanting England - the south east Ep #5

Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian shrines in England. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Originally founded in 597, the cathedral was completely rebuilt between 1070 and 1077. The east end was enlarged at the beginning of the 12th century and following a fire in 1174, it was rebuilt in the Gothic style with extensions to facilitate the flow of pilgrims visiting the shrine of Thomas Becket, the archbishop who was murdered in the cathedral in 1170.

A pivotal moment in the cathedral's history was the murder of the archbishop, Thomas Becket in 1170, by the knights of King Henry II. The king and the archbishop had frequent conflicts and when the king exclaimed in frustration, Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?, four of his knights took it literally and murdered Becket in his own cathedral.

He was venerated as a saint which transformed the cathedral into a place of pilgrimage, and it soon became one of the top three pilgrim sites in Europe.

When King Henry VIII founded the church of England, he ordered the destruction of catholic monasteries and churches. Thomas Becket's shrine, the Trinity chapel, was also destroyed and his remains were scattered in the river.

There is so much to see and know about the cathedral that a visit to this magnificent building, which is home to the oldest stained glass windows in England is worthwhile. If you visit Canterbury, don't miss a visit to the cathedral. You'll be fascinated in more ways than one!

Overview

Academic departments in the humanities have been dwindling in the past decades worldwide, as part of a wider shift of interest from the arts and humanities to the sciences. This shift is more practically oriented, but can endanger knowledge of cultural diversity, language, and tradition both for individuals and societies.

To preserve access to higher education about Modern Greece abroad, with Mr. Evangelos Marinakis as lead sponsor, Ohio Hellenic Paideia ('OHP', Columbus Ohio, USA) initiated and completed a new round of fundraising between 2015-2020, in order to safeguard the continuing operation of the Modern Greek Studies Program at The Ohio State University (Columbus Ohio, USA).

The chair of the program has been named after Mr. Marinakis' late father, Miltiadis Marinakis, a well-respected philanthropist, who instilled in Mr. Marinakis a sense of duty toward his fellow man and pride in his Greek heritage.

The Miltiadis Marinakis Endowed Professorship for Modern Greek Language and Culture was established by The Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University ('OSU') on the 25th of March, 2020.

This webinar will highlight modern Greek language and culture, in the wider context of the Greek-American experience, preserving tradition throughout history, while absorbing and reshaping enriching influences, and evolving with global popular culture.
