Places to see in ( Edwinstowe - UK )
Edwinstowe is a large village in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England, with associations to the Robin Hood and Maid Marian legends. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 5,188.
The village name meaning Edwin's resting place recalls that King (and Saint) Edwin of Northumbria's body was hidden in the church after he was killed in the Battle of Hatfield Chase, near Doncaster, probably in 633. The battle against King Penda of Mercia occurred near the present-day hamlet of Cuckney, some five miles north-west of modern Edwinstowe.
Edwinstowe is referenced twice in the Domesday Book. It records that there were five households, in addition to one priest and his four bordars, living in the hamlet in 1086.
Legend has it that Robin Hood married Maid Marian in St Mary's Church. Edwinstowe's present-day popularity is due mainly to the presence near the village of the Major Oak, a feature in the folklore of Robin Hood.
Thoresby Colliery served as Edwinstowe's main source of employment until July 2015, when the mine was permanently closed. The loss of the colliery, one of the last remaining and part of a national closure of the British deep-mined coal industry, has left tourism as the primary branch of the local economy. Nottinghamshire County Council's nearby Sherwood Forest Visitors' Centre is scheduled for redevelopment and improvement, with a contract awarded to RSPB, intended for completion by late 2017 at a projected cost of £5.3 million.
Edwinstowe has six pubs: the Black Swan, the Dukeries Lodge, Forest Lodge, Hammer and Wedge, the Manvers and the Royal Oak. Other catering facilities include the Edwinstowe Bistro Restaurant, the Cottage Tea Rooms, and Launay's Restaurant.
Environmental concerns are addressed at the Maun Valley Project Conservation Area.
Edwinstowe had a railway station between 1897 and 1955. A goods line remains. The nearest railway station today is at Mansfield (6 miles, 10 km). The village is served by twice-hourly, daytime Monday–Saturday bus services to Mansfield and Ollerton, six buses Monday–Saturday to Worksop, and one bus Monday–Friday to Nottingham. Services run twice a week to Newark and once a week to Lincoln.
( Edwinstowe - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Edwinstowe . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Edwinstowe - UK

Sheffield's Lost Railway Stations - Park Goods Station
Welcome to a new series and part 1 in the story of some of Sheffield's lost railway stations.
Sheffield is a large city in the north of England and has a deep and rich industrial history - and with that, a one time expansive railway system of lines, yards and stations.
We kick off with the Park Goods Station. Part of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway - later Great Central Railway. The station is located on the side of the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal's Victoria Quays canal basin. Which back in the day was a key cog in moving items around the country.
Old photos shows stacks of wagons queuing on top of the railway arches where the yard and station once stood - alongside cranes on the wharf side ready to move goods between the railway and the canal. The depot mainly dealt with coal and lime to and from the many local collieries.
We can walk alongside the retaining wall, archways and on top of part of the station. Alongside the canal are the bridge piers from the railways approach to the station.
The station closed in the 1960s where the railways moved the the Grimethorpe and later Tinsley yard for their frieght handling.
We also see some old photos and maps of the neighbouring City Station, which was part of the Londond & North Western Railway. This say where the Sheffield Parkway and Park Square roundabout sit. Nothing is left of this old station now.
Many of Sheffield's former railway goods stations are now long gone. Bridgehouses, which pre-dated the Victoria Station, Wicker & Nunnery are all close by.

THYNGHOWE VIKING ASSEMBLY SITE SHERWOOD FOREST
visit our website
Five years ago this mound-like feature was rediscovered in thick woodland by history lover and former teacher Lynda Mallett, along with husband Stuart Reddish and John Wood, all from Rainworth, using an original perambulation document dated to 1816.
Their research has also suggested that it may once have marked the boundary between the Anglo Saxon kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria.
After reporting the intriguing find to local history society members in Clipstone, Warsop and Edwinstowe, a new group was formed to work with forest chiefs to investigate the site's significant history and encourage wider community appreciation and involvement. A topographical survey will take place this autumn and there will be open days for the general public.

Shirebrook Valley Walk / Explore - Lost Industry in Sheffield
We walk and explore around the Shirebrook Valley Nature Reserve in South East Sheffield. Home to lots of lost industry in sheffield.
The nature reserve includes remains of old sickle and sythe forges and mills, two disused dams (Rainbow Dam & Carr Forge Dam), an old sewerage works (Coisley Hill), a former colliery (Birley East Colliery) and a reclaimed landfill site.
The site sits next to the A57 between the villages of Beighton, Woodhouse and Hackenthorpe in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
A very common place for walkers, runners and cyclists, the Trans-Pennine Trail cuts right through the heart of the nature reserve.
If you explore away from the main paths, you can find evidence of the lost industry that has allowed nature to reclaim.
The nature reserve also includes a visitor centre and picnic area.

My channel was set up in 2020 mainly to feature my running adventures. I planned to film and showcase the days out and destinations my running travels took me. Mainly the Peak District and the sights and marvels of Sheffield and the surrounding regions.
However due to Covid restrictions, I found a new interest in researching and exploring old abandoned places - railway lines, canal, woodland, parks to name a few.
So the videos you'll find will be mainly be of those things. Of course, where possible I'll be running to my destination.

Bath, England: St John the Evangelist Church | A Walking Tour around City Centre
St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church is located on the South Parade in the south-east section of Bath City Centre. The structure was designed and built between 1861-3 by Charles Francis Hansom, who was the brother of J. A. Hansom, the creator of the Hansom cab, and had formerly done the village church at Hanley Swan.

NORTON AND CUCKNEY: Bassetlaw Parish #63 of 66
Welcome to a place that, until 2015 was two separate civil parishes. It’s based around two villages and predominantly, most of the residents are clustered around them. Outside of these is a scattering of farms, farmhouses and cottages amongst a wider rural setting. There are several lodges affiliated to the Welbeck Estate dotted throughout and there are some substantial wooded to the North and East of the parish, primarily alongside the A616
Important routes both North and South have run through the larger of the two from very early times. It was held by Sweyn II, the Saxon, but after the Norman Conquest it was given to Joceus de Flemaugh and man named Baldrick (and no I don’t mean Tony Robinson), I mean Hugh Fitz-Baldrick! By the 1800s there were 2 mills in operation; a cotton mill and a corn mill.
The former Welbeck Colliery opened in 1912 and closed in 2010. At its peak it employed 1,500 workers and extracted 1.5 million tonnes of coal per year. The Hatfield Plantation is immediately north of the Welbeck Colliery site. It presently is a tree plantation but previously it was an ammunition store for use during World War II.
Buildings wise, some of the housing was purpose built for the former mill and given local names. These included Bakers Row, Maltkiln Row and Ten Row, housing adult workers and their families. There are over 40 buildings and structures throughout the parish are listed as features of historical interest. These include a monument to Lord George Bentinck, a man famed for repealing the corn laws with Benjamin Disraeli.
So then Bassetlaw starts to head towards the finish line with NORTON AND CUCKNEY.

My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands.

Visit to a mine closed 30 years ago
A visit to one of the former big collieries. Some of the site is preserved, like the winding house but it is huge so much is fallen into decay. Just a collection of shots from the visit. If you like this sort of thing have a look on it's an urban exploration site I visit. Some great pics on there, much better than this!
Chesterfield Canal Feeder - How Do You Keep a Canal Full?
In this latest video, we look at one of the ways in which the Chesterfield Canal received fresh water and keeps it's water levels topped up. How do you keep a Canal Full?
We take a walk up the Chesterfield from Shireoaks and come across the Brancliffe Feeder. The Brancliffe feeder takes its water from the River Ryton in Moses Seat Wood near Lindrick Dale.
After leaving Moses Seat Wood, the water then follows a meandering course through agricultural fields and the tiny farming community of Brancliffe Grange. It runs parallel to the canal for a short while and empties into the Canal just below Feeder Lock to the east of Turnerwood.
We are able to follow the Rotherham Ring Route public footpath for the majority of the route of the feeder as we track it's course to the river.

Abandoned Castlebridge Colliery Winding Tower (GoPro HD)
Exploring an abandoned winding tower at Castlebridge Colliery, Scotland.
This colliery, at one time, linked to Longannet Power Station via an underground network which later flooded and was blocked off.
A stunning place to explore but sadly ruined by metal thieves, vandals and graffiti.
