WAKEFIELD| Walkthrough in Wakefield city centre| Wakefield cathedral | trinity walk| Hepworth|

#walkthrough #citycenter @ranairfanali
I visited the city of Wakefield West Yorkshire to have a look around the streets. It was filmed in August 2022 and shows a quiet city centre

Wakefield is a city in West Yorkshire, England. It is a cathedral city (we show Wakefield Cathedral in this video too) and is set on the River Calder.

In the 18th century, Wakefield traded in corn, coal mining and textiles. In 1888 its parish church acquired cathedral status. These days Wakefield is a quiet city but comes to life at night due to the great nightlife here and the wild parties and nights out you can have!

It is the first time I have visited here and filmed the city and whilst it's nice to have a nice quiet peaceful walk it would have felt better to have a more thriving city centre. Where was everyone!?

We wander the streets on this city tour and try and find some of the blue plaques that the council has put up to celebrate and educate people about Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

I hope you enjoy this walk around Wakefield. If so please subscribe to see where I go next!

Bewildered Family Guide to Yorkshire - Wakefield

The kids and I took a family trip to Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Wakey isn’t exactly on the regular tourist map, but there is plenty to enjoy for kids and adults alike. We found culture, history, an homage to a great Julia Donaldson kids book and a varied music heritage.

Here’s our family guide to Wakefield in video form

I always love a good gallery and the Hepworth Wakefield is a very good gallery. Named after local artist and sculptor Barbara Hepworth, the venue houses much of her work as well as by other international modern artists. It also forms part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle with the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds Art Gallery and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Yes, Yorkshire triangles have four points. What are you going to do about it?

Elsa loved exploring the art works and drawing her favourites, while Seth was transfixed by water flowing over the weir on the River Calder through the window. I thought it would be the perfect place to encourage Elsa to work towards becoming a famous artist. If she did, that would make all the reams of paint-strewn paper she brings home from school worth a fortune.

Unfortunately, she would rather be a rock star, which is fine as long as she becomes one of those rock stars that goes to bed early and spends all their royalties on their parents.

One of the most recognisable Wakefield landmarks is Wakefield Cathedral. We popped in to have a look, but didn’t think it was appropriate to film inside. The place features intriguing medieval carvings and other features that are certainly well worth a look. It is also an oasis of calm away from the bustling city centre, whether you’re a churchy type or not.

Renowned composer Noel Gay stood in for the choirmaster of Wakefield Cathedral from the age of eight. The local lad went on to write some of the most famous music of the mid-20th century. He wrote the music, but not the lyrics to The Lambeth Walk. Of course, if he’d written the lyrics, being from Yorkshire, it would have been name T’Lambeth Walk (‘Ow Much For a Pint Down ‘Ere?).

Just outside of Wakefield is Anglers Country Park, home to the Room on the Broom Trail. If your kids love the work of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (are there any children who don’t?), they can live the dream here. There are wooden sculptures placed around the circular route that depict scenes from the book.

It’s a great place for the kids to run free (although with an appropriate adult eye ensuring they don’t stray too close to the lake) and search out the scenes from the story, the animal footprints and fill in the activity sheets. However, the trail so inspired my two, they spent the next three weeks demanding Room on the Broom every night at bedtime. Be warned.

Wakefield might not be an obvious choice for a family friendly day out in Yorkshire, but I think we proved that there is plenty to do. What did we miss, though? What else would you recommend for families in Wakefield? Leave a comment below!

10 Poorest Places in The UK

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

Places to see in ( Wakefield - UK )

Wakefield is a city in West Yorkshire, England, on the River Calder and the eastern edge of the Pennines, Wakefield was dubbed the Merrie City in the Middle Ages and in 1538 John Leland described it as, a very quick market town and meately large; well served of fish and flesh both from sea and by rivers.

The Battle of Wakefield took place in the Wars of the Roses and it was a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War. Wakefield became an important market town and centre for wool, exploiting its position on the navigable River Calder to become an inland port. In the 18th century, Wakefield traded in corn, coal mining and textiles and in 1888 its parish church acquired cathedral status. It became the county town of the West Riding of Yorkshire and was the seat of the West Riding County Council from 1889 until 1974, when the county and council were abolished, and of the West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council from 1974 until its dissolution in 1986.

Wakefield is 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Leeds and 28 miles (45 km) southwest of York on the eastern edge of the Pennines in the lower Calder Valley. The city centre is sited on a low hill on the north bank of the Calder close to a crossing place where it is spanned by a 14th-century, nine-arched, stone bridge and a reinforced concrete bridge built in 1929–1930.

The most prominent landmark in Wakefield is Wakefield Cathedral, which at 247 feet (75 m) has the tallest spire in Yorkshire. Other landmarks in the Civic Quarter on Wood Street include the Grade II* Neoclassical Crown Court of 1810, Wakefield Town Hall designed by T.W. Collcutt and opened in 1880, and the Queen Anne Style County Hall of 1898 which are Grade I listed. St John's Church and Square, St John's North and South Parade are part of residential development dating from the Georgian period.
The old Wakefield Bridge with its Chantry Chapel, Sandal Castle, and Lawe Hill in Clarence Park are ancient monuments. Another prominent structure is the 95-arch railway viaduct, constructed of 800,000,000 bricks in the 1860s on the Doncaster to Leeds railway line. At its northern end is a bridge with an 80-foot (24 m) span over Westgate and at its southern end a 163-foot (50 m) iron bridge crossing the River Calder.

( Wakefield - UK) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Wakefield . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Wakefield - UK
