Freedom Square, the old name is Mikhailovskaya Square, is the main square of the city of Vladikavkaz. It houses the building of the Supreme Court of the Republic, as well as the Soviets' House.

When I was living in Vladikavkaz, I left it in 1990 for Moscow, the Oktyabr Cinema Theater was also located on Svoboda Square. I remember as boys we would always visit it with great pleasure. Although tickets to Oktyabr Cinema Theater were the most expensive in the city, it was worth it – because of coziness, comfort, and a huge cinema screen.

In 2012, Oktyabr Cinema Theater was demolished, and now there is just space.

The Soviets' House is a monument of architecture and urban planning, an object of the cultural heritage of Russia. The Soviets' House was built in 1940. The building houses the Supreme Council of the Republic and the Council of Ministers of North Ossetia.

Along Tsereteli Street we passed by the Republican Pioneers Palace and the Children's Library.

I can't walk calmly along Tsereteli Street ... my heart always trembles ... to the left of the camera you can see my Alma mater - Gymnasium number five, ..., and to the right - Pushkin Square.

Gymnasium No. 5 is the oldest school in the North Caucasus. In 2002 it celebrates 135 years since its foundation.

We turn into the Museum Lane... The building of the Museum of the Tersk region, now the Museum of Ossetian literature, named after Kosta Khetagurov

The House of Cinema (formerly the Konstantinovsky School) is a monument of the cultural heritage of Russia.

North Ossetian State University.

The Kavkaz Hotel... was built in the late 40s... after a major overhaul in 2011, it became known as Planet Lux.

Vatutina Street... my home street... there is a house on it to which I was brought from the maternity hospital №1. I was living in this building from 1963 until 1990 ... then I left Vladikavkaz for Moscow.

Druzhba cinema theatre (Druzhba means friendship).

Yes, all my childhood and almost all of my youth passed by on these streets.

On the right hand is the entrance to the Central Market of Vladikavkaz.

Kuybysheva Street... it goes straight to Prospekt Mira, to Lenin Square, on which the Alexandrovsky Grand Hotel is located.

Stateon supermarket – here we usually bought some food during our stay in Vladikavkaz. A very nice store. Recommend!

And we keep walking along Kuibyshev Street to the place from where we started our little walk...

At the end of 2016, the reconstruction of the old building of the former Lutheran church, which nowadays is called State Philharmonic, a branch of the Mariinsky Theater, in the historical downtown of Vladikavkaz, was completed.
Georges: you will not believe it! In Venice, I do not remember the name of the temple… One to one, like our Philharmonic, one to one!

The building of the Lutheran Church was built in 1866, more than 150 years ago, in the spirit of late church Gothic.

The church was closed in the 1930s. First, the building was given to the club of the Union of Builders. Later, in 1944 the State Philharmonic of the Republic of North Ossetia was opened in the building of the church.

Vladikavkaz is the capital city of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the republic at the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains, situated on the Terek River. Population: 311,693 . Vladikavkaz is one of the most populous cities in the North Caucasus.
The city is an industrial and transportation centre. Manufactured products include processed zinc and lead, machinery, chemicals, clothing and food products.
In 1784, a tower was founded on the site of the Ossetian village Dzaug on the right bank of the river Terek, Russian troops built the Vladikavkaz fortress, which had the purpose of serving as an outpost for the routes of communication between Russia and Georgia. The Georgian Military Highway, crossing the mountains, was constructed in 1799 to link the city with Georgia to the south, and in 1875 a railway was built to connect it to Rostov-on-Don and Baku in Azerbaijan. Vladikavkaz has become an important industrial centre for the region, with smelting, refining, chemicals and manufacturing industries.
The city is served by the bus network (marshrutkas). There are also tram (since 1904) and trolleybus (since 1977) networks, plus the main Vladikavkaz railway station.

The city is served by Beslan Airport located about 9 kilometres from the city.

The Georgian Military Road, which is a part of European route E117, starts in Vladikavkaz and it connects the city with the South Caucasus.

रूसी पहाड़ों की यात्रा/Journey to Russian Mountains/ Best Hilly places in Russia/Beautiful Caucasus

The Caucasus Mountains[a] is a mountain range at the intersection of Europe and Asia. Stretching between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, it is surrounded by the Caucasus region and is home to Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe at 5,642 metres (18,510 ft) above sea level.

The Caucasus Mountains include the Greater Caucasus in the north and Lesser Caucasus in the south. The Greater Caucasus runs west-northwest to east-southeast, from the Caucasian Natural Reserve in the vicinity of Sochi, Russia on the northeastern shore of the Black Sea nearly to Baku, Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea. The Lesser Caucasus runs parallel to the Greater about 100 km (62 mi) south.[1] The Greater and Lesser Caucasus ranges are connected by the Likhi Range, and to the west and east of the Likhi Range lie the Colchis Plain and the Kur-Araz Lowland. The Meskheti Range is a part of the Lesser Caucasus system. In the southeast the Aras River separates the Lesser Caucasus from the Talysh Mountains which straddle the border of southeastern Azerbaijan and Iran. The Lesser Caucasus and the Armenian Highland constitute the Transcaucasian Highland, which at their western end converge with the highland plateau of Eastern Anatolia in the far north east of Turkey. Mountains near Sochi hosted part of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The climate of the Caucasus varies both vertically (according to elevation) and horizontally (by latitude and location). Temperature generally decreases as elevation rises. Average annual temperature in Sukhumi, Abkhazia at sea level is 15 °C (59 °F) while on the slopes of Mt.Kazbek at an elevation of 3,700 metres (12,100 ft), average annual temperature falls to −6.1 °C (21.0 °F). The northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range are 3 °C (5.4 °F) colder than the southern slopes. The highlands of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia are marked by sharp temperature contrasts between the summer and winter months due to a more continental climate.

Still under the impression of visiting the City of the Dead (link to a video about this amazing place in the upper right corner of the screen, as well as in the description), we slowly moved along the Midagrabin Gorge towards one of the brightest pearls of North Ossetia - the Valley of Waterfalls.

Only two objects from the remarkable places of North Ossetia made it to the pages of the guide to anomalous zones and amazing places in Russia, and one of them is the Valley of Waterfalls in Midagrabin Gorge.

We leave the car and walk along a picturesque road, breathe in the delicious air infused with mountain herbs and admire the wondrous beauty of the mountains.

The first to inform the world about the exceptionally beautiful valley with waterfalls in Midagrabin was the teacher of the women's high school from Vladikavkaz and passionate traveler Maria Preobrazhenskaya. By the way, she is considered the founder of women's mountaineering.

There are more than 50 waterfalls in the Valley of Waterfalls... small and large, seasonal and permanent...

All the waterfalls of the valley originate on the peaks of the Kazbek-Dzhimarai snow glacier massif and flow into the Gizeldon, a mountain tributary of the Terek.

The valley of waterfalls is overflowing with the sound of flowing, falling, water hitting rocks... And since we are 70% water, there is a feeling that the body enters into a kind of resonance with the unique atmosphere of the valley.

- Are you improving the riverbed?
- That's the direction I am going for.
- Change the direction of the river a little bit, right?
- Because if it overflows, it's impossible to get through.

At last we have reached the first height in Midagrabin Gorge, the foot of the Great Zeygalan Waterfall. Half an hour of the hardest climb and we are there ...

Forgetting how to breathe, we stand side by side.
Water and stones, a heavenly organ
In Midagrabin, in front of the waterfall
Known as Big Zeygalan

Beautiful and powerful, the second largest waterfall in the Valley of the Falls, but certainly the most beautiful. It rises on a glacier at an altitude of more than 3 km above sea level. Zeygalan translated from Ossetian means falling avalanche.

The abundance of this waterfall depends greatly on the season and the weather: for example, in sunny weather the flow of water is many times stronger than in cloudy weather, because it is fed by a glacier that hardly melts without heat.

It's hard to tell how much time we spent staring at the Zeygalan... A truly mesmerizing sight! But we had to move on...

We still have a way back to go
We began the descent to the car... I would like to say that the descent is more difficult than the ascent... Oh, be careful!

We still had to visit Dzivgis rock fortress in Kurtatinsky gorge and Koltso waterfall. After that, we could consider the mission of the first day of the excursion accomplished and return to the Alexandrovsky Hotel with peace of mind (link to the video review of the hotel in the upper right corner of the screen, as well as in the description).

Before leaving the Midagrabin Valley, we stopped on the shore of a picturesque lake. With great pleasure we ate an Ossetian pie washed down with fragrant tea infused with mountain herbs. These dishes were given to us as a surprise by Tourism Ossetia, represented by its founder and our guide Alan! Ossetian hospitality in action!
