Packrafting from Mänttä to Vilppula in Finnish autumn weather
I went for a short, about 10 km paddling trip from Mänttä in Pirkanmaa, Finland to Vilppula. I overnighted in a hammock in the woods on an island, and paddled with the Anfibio Rebel 2K as it is well suited for public transport due to the small packing size. I paddled down the Vilppulankoski rapids, even though there was very low water levels at the time making it rocky.
This channel is about varied outdoor activities, adventures and nature scenes; paddling, boating, hiking, camping, photography etc. mostly in Finland and northern Scandinavia, but also elsewhere in the world.

I TRIED FINLAND'S SECRET TO HAPPINESS (Lessons from the HAPPIEST country ON EARTH)
I tried a Finnish wellness challenge, or a Finnish sisu challenge for one week. The practices were inspired from a book called “Sisu: The Finnish Art of Courage”
Finland is a country that I have admired for a long time now. It consistently ranks high on the World Happiness Report. In fact, it has ranked number one for the past three years. There are many aspects of Finnish culture that contribute to this sense of wellbeing, one of them possibly being the concept of Sisu.
Although there is no direct translation, according to the book sisu stands for a variety of traits including “stoic determination, hardiness, courage, bravery, willpower, tenacity, and resilience” -pg 40. Nyland further explains that it is a mindset requiring action. It’s about courage in the fact of adversity and overcoming challenges.
For this video I implemented practices mainly from Chapter 2 Well-Being the Sisu way. I focused on this chapter for two reasons. 1. I want to focus on mental health, and 2. Because this chapter provides practices that are easy to get started with (and to implement in a video).
Although the book is called “Sisu” and I am trying to reach my inner sisu, the challenges are focused on mental health and well-being. I have definitely improved my mood from implementing these practices. Even after the week was over I continued to implement them, and I am still implementing them today. I feel much happier by taking these simple steps, and I hope that you can find a practice to implement into your own life as well.
My favorite part about sisu comes from page 36. It explains that we can inspire sisu in each other and that we are stronger together. I believe that when we embrace other cultures, find value in learning from others, and see beauty in diversity, we too can be stronger together.
