Carcassonne, Pont Vieux to Medieval Citadel & Château Comtal, Rain Walk, Occitanie France 4K UHD
Carcassonne is a French fortified city in the department of Aude, in the region of Occitanie. Inhabited since the Neolithic, Carcassonne is located in the plain of the Aude between historic trade routes, linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif Central to the Pyrénées. Its strategic importance was quickly recognized by the Romans, who occupied its hilltop until the demise of the Western Roman Empire.
Its citadel, known as the Cité de Carcassonne, is a medieval fortress dating back to the Gallo-Roman period and restored by the theorist and architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in 1853. It was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997 because of the exceptional preservation and restoration of the medieval citadel.
Let's take a walk from Pont Vieux to Château Comtal, Historic place in Carcassonne. Place Pont Vieux is 1.1 km away from Carcassonne Railway station (SNCF).
Pont Vieux Carcassonne: Typical medieval bridge from the 14th century. Until the 19th century, it was the only link between the Bastide Saint Louis and the Medieval City. Exclusively reserved for pedestrians, it allows quick access to the Medieval City. The stone bridge which replaced the feudal structure formerly built upstream, on the site of the Roman bridge, dates from the beginning of the 14th century. The work was in progress in 1315, it was hardly to be completed until around 1320.
Château Comtal: The Comtal Castle of Carcassonne was built largely in the 13th century, probably after the Treaty of Paris of 1229. Courtines and towers came to literally frame the former palace of the Viscounts of Carcassonne as well as the Sainte-Marie chapel. The Palais des Trencavel, which overlooked the Place de l'Orme, then became a royal fortification in the heart of the city. The castle, rectangular in shape, is separated from the city by a deep moat and defended by two barbicans, the barbican is turned towards the city while the western Barbican goes down to the edge of the Aude. The six towers are pierced with loopholes with stirrups; the curtain walls and the top of the towers can receive hoardings. Today, the fortified shirt of the castle supports a reconstruction of hoardings between the gate and the Major's tower.
St. Gimer's Church (St. Gimer's Church): It is one of the three churches designed by Viollet le Duc. Its construction lasted from 1849 to 1859. Its architecture is characterized by the Gothic vision of the famous architect. The Saint Gimer Church has been classified, like the City of Carcassonne, in the directory of protected sites as UNESCO World Heritage.
Porte de l'Aude: Gateway to the city and with a typically medieval appearance. Very picturesque route and magnificent viewpoint over the ramparts. To the west, the Porte d'Aude faces the river of the same name. It is located near the count's castle. This door is extended by the barbican of the Aude, partly destroyed in 1816 to build the Saint-Gimer church. Only the ramp surrounded by crenellated walls remains. This door, with a typically medieval appearance, has served as the backdrop for many film shoots such as The Visitors, Robin des Bois: Prince of Thieves or Le Corniaud.

Cité de Carcassonne 🏰 Most Beautiful Fortified Medieval City in France ☔ Rain Walk 4K
😍 One of the most beautiful and well preserved World Heritage Site.. Cité de Carcassonne... its main entrance door Porte Narbonnaise is approx 2km away from Carcassone Railway station(SNCF). The Cité, a medieval village still inhabited, has 52 towers and 2 concentric enclosures which total 3km of ramparts. It has free access day and night, through the Porte Narbonnaise and the Porte d'Aude.
The Cité de Carcassonne:
The Cité de Carcassonne is a medieval citadel located in the French city of Carcassonne, in the Aude department, Occitanie region. It is situated on a hill on the right bank of the River Aude, in the southeast part of the city proper. The citadel was restored at the end of the 19th century and in 1997 it was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites because of its exceptional testimony to the architecture and planning of a medieval fortress town.
The Porte Narbonnaise:
Main entrance door to the Medieval City. Built around 1280, it is made up of two huge spur towers. The Narbonnaise gate, located to the east, was built around 1280 during the reign of Philippe III the Bold and is made up of two enormous spur towers. It owes its name to its orientation towards Narbonne. In the 19th century Viollet-le-Duc reconstructed the crenellations and the slate roof and provided it with a pseudo drawbridge which did not originally exist.
Carcassonne:
Carcassonne is a French fortified city in the department of Aude, in the region of Occitanie. Inhabited since the Neolithic, Carcassonne is located in the plain of the Aude between historic trade routes, linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif Central to the Pyrénées. Its strategic importance was quickly recognized by the Romans, who occupied its hilltop until the demise of the Western Roman Empire.

Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus:
The Jewel of the City (XIth-XIVth century). Saint-Nazaire is a case of harmonious coexistence between Romanesque and Gothic whose stained glass windows are the most beautiful in the South. Mass every Sunday at 11 a.m. The first authentic deed mentioning this church dates from 925. In 1096 Pope Urbain II came to Carcassonne and blessed the stones of Saint-Nazaire and Saint Celse Cathedral. The building was completed in the first half of the 12th century. Redesigned several times, it lost its cathedral status in 1801 in favor of the Saint-Michel church located in the Bastide. In 1898 it received the title of Basilica granted by Pope Leo XIII.

Carousel Bar and Lounge - Behind Bars
Marvin from the Carousel Bar and Lounge in New Orleans prepares Carousel's world famous Vieux Carré cocktail.
Chateau d'If + Frioul Island / MARSEILLES, FRANCE
While in Marseilles, we visited the famous Chateau d'If island prison which was at the home to the fictional character in the book, The Count of Monte Cristo.
You can take the ferry to the island but to visit Frioul islands, you have to pay extra.
I would recommend doing both islands.
