Intro for Walking from Paris to Bordeaux on the GR655, Some Sights Along the Famous Pilgrim Trail
As a post COVID project I walked the old medieval pilgrim trail from Paris to Bordeaux in the Spring of 2023. I was taking a bit of a risk because I was walking alone and I am over 70 but I made it.
This video is the introduction to the series. My walk took 47 days and I hope to post an equal number of videos explaining, day by day with images what the walk meant to me and could mean to others who might give it a try.
My route was the French GR 655, which recreates the medieval ‘Via Turonensis’ or ‘Voie de Tours’. Today not many pilgrims walk it and you can cover stretches in perfect solitude. There was something deeply satisfying about the stillness that it engendered but there was also wonderful fellowship with the other pilgrims and walkers that I met.
The full route takes you to the Spanish border from Paris, crosses the Pyrenees and joins the famous el Camino to Santiago in north-west Spain. Ambitious walkers go all the way, a journey of 1800 kilometres . I have done a great deal of it on the three different journeys that I have taken over the past 7 years. My journey this time was 750km, and I hope you will enjoy it.
