FINDING ADVENTURE - Solvang, California | Cinematic Vlog Shot on Sony A6600 // Film Journal #31
Yena and I decided to venture out near the Santa Barbara / Solvang area for a California day trip. 3 1/2 hours from Los Angeles and we found ourselves in a city that literally looked like a Danish town in Europe! Who knew continental breakfast could be so fancy. Ostrichland USA was a must visit in the area. Copenhagen Sausage Garden is always a must visit for me every single time to eat some amazing sausages I can't get back at home. Sunstone Winery was absolutely beautiful for wine tasting. We hightailed back to Santa Barbara to catch the sunset to end the day but also to hit one last spot with an amazing bridge view!

Bamburgh Castle - The Last Kingdom Standing Strong
Bamburgh Castle is located on the Northeast coast of England near the village of Bamburgh in Northumberland. It is a Grade 1 listed building which means is has been placed on a statutory list maintained by Historic England.
It was most recently featured on the Netflix Movie, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. It will also be featured in the upcoming Indiana Jones film. It was also a featured location in the Starz and Netflix TV series Outlander.
Prior to Bamburgh Castle being built, the site was the location of a Celtic Brittonic fort called Din Guarie. The fort was founded sometime between 420 to 547. The fort passed from control of the Britons and the Anglo-Saxons several times and finally rested in control of the Anglo-Saxons in 590. It was destroyed by the Vikings in 993. Eventually the Normans built a castle on this site which became the core of Bamburgh Castle. It became property of the English monarch after a revolt in 1095.
It deteriorated during the 17th century and was restored by several owners during the 18th and 19th centuries. Victorian era industrialist William Armstrong bought the castle in 1894 and completed restoration.
It continues to be owned by the Armstrong family to this day. Francis Watson-Armstrong is the current owner or preservationist of this castle. It first opened to the public in the 1900's.
If you would like to visit the castle, ticketing information can be found on their official website:

How do you watch a SPACEX ROCKET LAUNCH at Vandenberg SFB? 🚀
We camped as close as we could to a SpaceX Starlink rocket launch on the California coast. We want to share all the details on how to see a SpaceX launch in person and where we camped to be close to the launch site.
There are several viewing locations to see a rocket launch from the Vandenberg Space Force Base, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. We share some of these sites and how we chose the site where we saw the rocket launch. Our campsite was 10 miles away from the launch pad and the viewing site we chose was only 3.8 miles away from the launch pad.
We observed the SpaceX rocket launch that occurred on February 25, 2022 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Lompoc, CA. It was sending 50 new Starlink satellites up into low orbit. Even though we returned our Starlink (see previous video on why), we are still fans of Starlink and hopeful that a model that will suit our needs will be available in the near future.

Experience the Great Food and Great Restaurants in Hilton Head Island, SC | HGTV Dream home 2020
From fresh seafood to low-country specialities and even classic southern dishes, there's no shortage of great flavors on Hilton Head Island.
When you're surrounded by water, you know the seafood is going to be great. Our first stop is the spot for some of the freshest seafood in town. Hudson's on the Docks prides themselves on serving the very freshest local seafood. They've been in business for 52 years and serve the freshest local seafood. The customers always say, This is the best blank I've ever had whether it's shrimp, oysters, soft shell crab, you name it, they love it. Hudson's on the Docks is a 2nd-generation family restaurant and another thing that they're known for is their oyster roasts. What they do is they get a fire pit going with oakwood. The coals get raging hot, they put a piece of expanded metal over it, place the oysters on that and then finish with a wet burlap sack to steam the oysters to perfection. Then they shuck the oysters and eat them with crackers and hot sauce.
Next up is all about the flavors of the island at The Lucky Rooster. Chef and Owner Clayton Rollison takes us through the southern flavors he grew up on and is serving to locals and travelers alike. Their goal is to cook very specific southern foods in ways that are a lot of fun. Signature dishes include a crab rice dish with local shrimp, okra and Carolina gold rice. They highlight it with blue crab and okra.
After that, they finish it with a beautiful pineapple upside down cake. Pineapple on a yellow cake, with a gastrique sauce made of luxardo cherries, crumb streusel and brown butter ice cream.
Lastly is Chef Orchid who is making tasty southern barbecue at One Hot Mama's. Their process takes 16 to 20 hours. They season all of their pork and brisket with their barbecue blend, mop it with vinegar and smoke it for hours. Open it up in the morning and serve it to all of the visitors.
For the freshest seafood, traditional low-country flavors or classic southern barbecue, the tastes of Hilton Head Island – do not disappoint.

Santa Maria-Style Tri Tip: A California Classic
According to R.H. Tesene’s definitive book titled Santa Maria Style Barbecue, “In the 1950s, a local butcher named Bob Schutz perfected the tri-tip, which is a two to three pound triangular shaped cut off the top sirloin.”. And thus a new tradition was born, with tri-tip joining top block sirloin as a signature cut of Santa Maria BBQ. Prior to tri-tip being popularized in the Santa Maria Valley, the cut was mainly disregarded by butchers as something to be used for ground beef or stew meat. In fact, even today, many butchers outside of the Central Coast still don’t know what “tri-tip” is. Pair with California Cabernet Sauvignon or California Zinfandel.
Get the printable recipe here:
INGREDIENTS
Tri Tip and Santa Maria Seasoning
2 teaspoons (4g) kosher salt
2 teaspoons(4.6g) black pepper
2 teaspoons (10g) garlic powder
2 teaspoons(4.6g) paprika or piment d’espelette
1 teaspoons(2.4g) onion powder
1 teaspoons(1.2g) dried rosemary, ground or chopped
¼ teaspoons(.45g) cayenne pepper
1 2-lb (907g) tri-tip roast, patted dry
Chimichurri
3 cups (75g) finely chopped parsley
½ cup (15g) finely chopped cilantro
½ cup (113.4g) extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoon (29.8g) red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon (21g) honey
2 lemons, juiced
3 garlic cloves, finely grated
Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, dried rosemary, and cayenne. Rub the seasoning mix all over the tri-tip, then let the meat sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Gas grill: Preheat the grill to medium-high, leaving 1 to 2 burners off to create an area with indirect heat.
Charcoal grill: Bank warmed coals on one side of the grill to create an area with indirect heat.
Grill the tri-tip slowly over indirect heat, flipping once to cook evenly. Once an instant-read thermometer reads 115°F (46.1°C) in the middle of the steak, move it to direct heat and continue grilling for 2 minutes per side, until charred and cooked to 125°F (51.6°C). Remove from the grill and allow the tri-tip to rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing–it will continue to cook to a medium-rare temperature.
Meanwhile, whisk together the parsley, cilantro, olive oil, red wine vinegar, honey, lemon juice, and grated garlic. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Once the tri-tip has rested, slice it against the grain. Top with chimichurri to serve.

Lompoc, California - Driving Tour 4K
Lompoc (/ˈlɒmpoʊk/, LOM-poke) (Purisimeño: Lompo', Stagnant Water) is a city in Santa Barbara County, California. The city was incorporated on August 13, 1888. The population was 42,434 at the 2010 census, up from 41,103 at the 2000 census.
Before European settlers arrived, the area around Lompoc was inhabited by the Chumash people. The name of the city is derived from a Purisimeño term, Lum Poc, which means stagnant waters or lagoon. In 1837, the Mexican government sold the area as the Rancho Lompoc land grant. After the United States gained control of California in the Mexican–American War (1846–48), the valley was acquired by Thomas Dibblee, Albert Dibblee and William Welles Hollister. Hollister sold his share to the Lompoc Valley Land Company, and it was on that portion of the land that the present-day Lompoc was established as a temperance colony.
Lompoc was intended to be named New Vineland, after the temperance colony in New Jersey. It then became a military town with the completion of nearby Camp Cooke (now Vandenberg Space Force Base). The city is known as the flower seed capital of the world.

Escape The Ordinary: Stowe, Vermont
Thank you for heading over here to view this video! I’m incredibly excited to introduce my first short time lapse film, featuring my beautiful home town of Stowe, Vermont. I started shooting for it on a very cold evening in January 2014 and completed it on June 15, 2015. Many evenings and VERY early mornings were spent out on fields and mountain tops, some of them extremely cold (this is Vermont, after all). I frankly couldn’t tell you the number of photos I took, but it must be enormous. Beyond the +/- 5,000 you can see above there’s an even bigger amount that didn’t survive the editing process.
This video was produced solely by yours truly and solely on my own behalf: nobody paid me anything to create it. Nevertheless, a few acknowledgements are in order. The awesome background music was created by Blake Ewing and licensed to me by The Music Bed. The Stowe, Vermont logo and ‘Escape the Ordinary…’ tagline are courtesy of the Stowe Area Association, which was kind enough to let me use them. I alone take responsibility for any errors or omissions in this video.
About me: I am a landscape photographer based in Stowe, VT. My work for the most part features the wonderful Vermont scenery. You can find me online at:
