TOZEUR TUNISIA - TOUR OF THE DESERT OASIS توزر (travel vlog 2019)
Welcome to TOZEUR Tunisia. This is an enchanting palm oasis located in southwest Tunisia, on the edge of the Sahara. While the surrounding area appears desolate, the oasis springs up like a mirage and buzzing with activity. TOZEUR is known for its old Medina and unique brick architecture, that make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Today we are going to uncover the mysteries within this unique desert community.
Tucked away in the peaceful oasis is Diar Abou Habibi, a chilled out accommodation with uniquely decorated cabins. It’s an excellent base for tourists wanted to visit the nearby Star Wars sets, salt flats, and Atlas Mountains.
Next, we visit the date farm. Date production plays an important role in the economy of the oasis, as it provides many jobs to farmers and exporters. Tunisian dates are exported to more than 80 countries.The cultivation of the dates requires lots of manual labor.
On the outskirts of the oasis, we visit a brickwork factory. TOZEUR is famous for its yellowish/brown bricks, which are made by hand using clay. They are a passed down tradition and keep the houses cool during the hot 325 days of sun.
Lastly, we enjoy a Tunisian feast including Tunisian wine before checking out the nightlife at a local hookah lounge.

Welcome to our 42nd country: Tunisia!!!
We started a road trip around the country to see more of it. The first stop was the desert! We spent a few days in Tozeur and took a 4x4 tour to see more. We stopped in a few oasis, did some crazy driving in the desert, and visited one of the Star Wars movie sets. What an adventure!!!! Chebika magnifique oasis de montagne à Tozeur شبيكة واحه روعه من الجمال توزر
Chebika, étant une oasis de montagne, est située, plus précisément à l’ouest du gouvernorat de Tozeur. Elle correspond sans doute à l’antique poste avancé d’Ad Speculum. Les Romains y utilisaient des miroirs pour communiquer avec les autres postes et signaler d’éventuelles incursions ennemies, vu son emplacement situé sur le limes saharien reliant Tébessa à Gafsa. L’actuel village de Chebika est construit à proximité du vieux village abandonné.
Son principal intérêt est sa fontaine pittoresque, située en bas de l'ancien village berbère, avec une petite palmeraie et une cascade. Elle approvisionne un petit nombre de cours d'eau souterrains et un réseau de canaux souterrains qui alimente les puits, grâce auxquels on y cultive des arbres fruitiers dans un endroit complètement aride. Cette oasis doit sa prospérité à un système d'irrigation sophistiqué. Pour garantir l'équilibre, il faut garder une distribution équilibrée de l'eau à tous les champs.

Chebika, being a mountain oasis, is located, more precisely in the west of the governorate of Tozeur. It probably corresponds to the ancient outpost of Ad Speculum. The Romans used mirrors there to communicate with other posts and signal possible enemy incursions, given its location on the Saharan Limes linking Tébessa to Gafsa. The current village of Chebika is built near the old abandoned village.
Its main interest is its picturesque fountain, located at the bottom of the old Berber village, with a small palm grove and a waterfall. It supplies a small number of underground streams and a network of underground canals that feed the wells, thanks to which fruit trees are grown there in a completely arid place. This oasis owes its prosperity to a sophisticated irrigation system. To ensure balance, a balanced distribution of water to all fields must be maintained.

This video is about our impressions of Tozeur, Tunisia on a laid back day walking around the town, medina and markets. We enjoyed our Tunisia trip and particularly South Tunisia was our favorite.
Tunisian Dinar is a closed currency which means you cannot bring in or take out any TND cash to/from Tunisia.
1 TND = 1000 millims and you need to carry enough coins.
As of Sep 2023, the bank notes mostly used are of 5, 10, 20, and 50 denominations and the coin denominations are 1,2 and 5 TND and 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 milims.

Tunisia Visa for Indian Passports in Sep 2023 :
As of Sep 2023, Indian passport holders need pre-arranged visas to Tunisia from an overseas Tunisian consulate. We applied from the consulate of Tunisia in Nice, France and the process was time consuming.
Visa Fees: 75 Euros each (cash only)
Documents submitted: Passport copy, Residence Proof in France, Filled in and signed Application Form, Photograph, Hotel Bookings (Booked on Booking.com, having accommodation proof is mandatory for Tunisia tourist visa) and round trip flight tickets
20th July 2023: Submitted application, paid visa fees, they did not keep the passport with them.
12th Aug 2023: Went to the consulate for a follow up on the visa processing, they told us our file reached the Tunisian Ministry on 26th July, decision was still pending.
25th Aug 2023: Got a call from the consulate that the visa has been approved and to come with our passports.
25th Aug 2023 (same day): Went to the consulate and got the visa stamp.
The entire process was pretty straight forward and simple, the hardest part being the wait from 20th July to 25th Aug. Normal processing time for Tunisia visa here is around 3-4 weeks.
