The name Thiruninravur comes from the Tamil words THIRU, NINDRA & VUR. The Tamil word Thiru represents the name for the God Perumal. Nindra refers to Stood and Vur refers to a village or a place
1. Bakthavatsala Perumal Temple
Bakthavatsala Perumal Temple, one of the 108 Vishnu Divyadesams. Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Bhaktavatsala Perumal & his consort Lakshmi as Ennai Petra Thayar
The Temple is believed to have been built by the Pallavas of the late 8th century AD. The Temple is glorified in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the 9th–10th century Vaishnava canon, by Thirumangai Azhwar. Saints visited this Temple - Thirumangai Azhwar, Sri Ramanujar, Thyagabramham, Sri Ragavendra Swami.
The Moolavar (Presiding Deity) of the Temple is Bakthavasala Perumal.The Height of the Moolavar is around 10 ft (3 mtrs). The Utsavar (Procession Deity) is called Patharaavi, accompanied by two Consorts, Sudhavalli & Andal.
There is a separate shrine for Ennai Petra Thayar also called Sudhavalli, the consort of Bakthavasala and for Andal, Chakkarathazhwar, the Alwars & Sri Ramanuja.
2. Sri Hridayaleeswarar Temple
Sri Hridayaleeswarar Temple, 6th Century Lord Shiva Temple located at walkable distance from Bakthavatsala Perumal Temple.
Poosalaar, was a poor Devotee of Lord Shiva. he yearned to erect a Beautiful Temple for his Heart's favourite, Lord Shiva. Due to poverty he could not build a Temple, but his heart was large enough to house Shiva's Temple in his Heart.
He called the deity 'Hirudhayaleeswarar', the one who abides in the Heart. Poosalaar is one of the Sixty Three Nayanmars stated in the Periyapuranam.
The inner roof of the Temple is designed like that of a Heart, divided into four compartments. Parvati here is worshipped as Maragathambigai. Poosalaar's Statue is found with folded hands in the shrine of Hridayaleeswarar,
Saint Manickavasagar, Sekkizhar and other saints visited the Temple and praised the Lord of this Temple.
Hridayaleeswarar is also worshipped as Manavaleswarar. People suffering from Heart Diseases Pray to Lord Hridayaleeswarar for speedy recovery and Good Health.
3. Eri Katha Ramar Temple
Eri Katha Ramar Temple is a Small Temple dedicated to Lord Rama located at Thiruninravur, just behind Bakthavatsala Perumal Temple
Eri Katha Ramar Temple also appears to be Centuries Old Temple, Lord Kothanda Rama is housed in the Sanctum. Lord Rama is about 8 Feet Tall, he is having two hands holding Bow and Arrow. Devi Sita stands to Rama’s right, holding a lotus in the left hand with the right hand hanging down. Lakshmana is to Rama’s left.
