Is this Maryland's best fall colors hike? #fallcolors 🍁 🍂🍃
Wolf Rock and Chimney Rock is a 3.5 moderate hike that climbs about 800 ft of elevation. The vistas from Chimney Rock overlook the mountains and the valley below. Almost all the elevation is in the very beginning and after that, is relatively flat.
You may choose to do an out and back to Chimney Rock, or complete a loop. Both are about the same distances. However, the out and back (from the Visitor Center) is probably easier because it is less steep and less rocky on the way down.

You can get right back on the river in a kayak if the water is calling to you, or partake in many other adventures like rock climbing in Carderock (the oldest climbing area in the eastern US), ziplining and scrambling in the tree course (the largest of its kind in all 50 states) at Adventure Park, or catching some air at the South Germantown bike park.
If you're looking to go a bit mellower, you can bike along the historic C&O canal, grab some tasty treats at Butler's Orchard, or smell the flowers at Brookside Gardens. There are about a thousand restaurants in the county, so you're not likely to go hungry when the time comes!

Our plan was to visit Cunningham Falls in the Catoctin Mountain Park. However, due to the crowd, we went to another place inside the park (in order to maintain social distancing). Also, we went to the historic Catoctin Furnace. We will visit again someday to see waterfall and the rest of the park.
