Jose Abad Santos Municipal Hall and Beach walk
We take a quick closer look at the Town Hall in JAS. The town used to belong to Davao del Sur, but some years ago the Area South East from Santa Maria and way down to JAS and I guess beyond, was made a new province, called Davao Occidental. The provincial capital is Malita.
Malita, Davao Occidental Road Trip
According to folk etymology, the name Malita is derived from the Spanish word maleta which means suitcase. It is said that purportedly Don Mariano Peralta, a retired veteran of the Spanish–American War who ventured to the place, decided to live on the vast, fertile plain across the river. One day while bodily fording the deep and swift river with his suitcase and other belongings in hand, the force of the current overwhelmed his perilous balance and got swept by the water consequently losing his grip on the suitcase. His frantic shouts of maleta, maleta attracted the attention of the bathing natives who after realizing the situation promptly responded and retrieved the vanishing to settle as Malita. How it came to its present spelling and usage maybe attributed to the natives’ prevalent use of suitcase. Hardly forgetting the shouts of Peralta, the natives later thought the word referred to the land he intended long 'e' sound for the vowels 'i' and 'e'.
Malita is the oldest community in the province. Malita's existence dates back scores of years before its formal creation as municipality on November 17, 1936. Records show that Malita must have existed long before the passage of the Philippine Commission Act, the Laws of the Moro Province that mentioned Malita in Section 1 of Act No. 164 dated December 10, 1904. Through the said Act it is presumed that it existed as a barrio of Santa Cruz long before the coming of the Americans to Davao. Executive Order No. 64 issued by President Manuel L. Quezon officially created Malita into a municipality. Marcelino Maruya, from whom the town of Don Marcelino was named after, was the first appointed municipal mayor.

Welcome to another DENstination - Denver’s Travel Diaries! Join me as we explore beautiful places in the Philippines! This is my entry for the Province of Davao Occidental.
Traveling is not just about visiting landmarks and ticking off bucket list items. It’s also about immersing oneself in the local culture and connecting with people from different walks of life.
I was not expecting to meet these children during my travel here. In fact, my interaction with them has become the highlight of my trip. Apologies though as I was not able to record most of it since I was so ‘in the moment’.
Despite the language barrier, I tried to strike up a conversation with them with my very limited repertoire of Bisaya words. I’m fluent in English, Filipino, and Iloco. I undertand Kankana-ey and a bit of Ibaloi. But this time, I wished I knew more of their language so I could’ve delved into their lives better.
In our short interaction, I‘ve witnessed a fraction of their culture and community as I listen to them sharing their stories and tease each other. I watched them as they actually fish and prepare each piece for their dinner. I’m amazed that at their age, they’ve developed strategies in maximizing their catch, they know the best time to fish, and they are talking about how they will cook their dinner.
So, my takeaway, spend time with locals as much as possible. 😇

📌 No Restaurant inside only small sari-sari store so better to bring your own foods or pwede naman magluto sa loob ng resort
📌 Waves is not malakas, perfect for Swimming talaga
📌 Nothing special with the place just Beach Vibe
📌 Honest review about the water (drinking, shower and pool) not good since medyo maarte ako. Lol
📌 Shower Rooms need to be improved since blurred eyes po ako tapos sira pa ang light
📌 Public Sink also need to be repaired and improved since may mga sira na po
📌 So far the Place is Clean (garbage's are in place)
📌 Overall Experience is 6 out of 10

Less than Php 1000 excluding the Foods kasi we just brought food and shared foods to my husband Batchmates

Exploring Lawa, Don Marcelino part 1
Lawa is the main center of Don Marcelino,situated between Malita in the north, and Jose Abad Santos down south. It has a market area, bakeries, hardware shop and a few larger shops selling bread, snacks, canned food etc. No ATM, no sugar free drinks. Hair saloons are here, some eaterys. There are some public buildings, Rescue Center and some health services (very limited) and a couple of simple beach resorts.
Lawa has a small but nice motel at a rate of cirka 1000 pesos.
No larger buses go further down south, but occasionally some small vans can take people further. However, I have not found any open tourist accomodation until JAS, and the one I found in JAS is closed down. There are a couple of resorts close to JAS.
Don Marcelino is the real province with pristine trekking paths and beaches.
You can get around on habal habal mc service or tricycles.
TUWANG WHITE BEACH RESORT | Calian, Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
Tuwang beach resort is located in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental. The sand is powdery white and they have one of the most crystal clear waters I have seen so far. This is a must visit place if you are a beach bum. their rates are also friendly to your pocket. Entrance fee for overnight stays are at 50 pesos per head ($1) and open cottages start at 150 pesos. They also have closed cottages. rates start at 350 pesos.

Team BDRC goes to Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental Ride
Don Marcelino, officially the Municipality of Don Marcelino, is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Davao Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 44,554 people.
It was created through Batas Pambansa Bilang 147 on December 19, 1979, from the municipality of Malita[4]. It is named in honor of Marcelino Maruya, the first municipal mayor of Malita, appointed by President Manuel Quezon in 1936.
The municipality recently experience frequent tectonic earthquakes.[5][6][7][8][9] Television personality Franco Hernandez died at a drowning incident in Barangay North Lamidan on November 11, 2017.[10] Police report that strong wave hit their motorized boat causing him and his girlfriend to fall off.
