My friends George, BY and I travelled to Northern Philippines (into the Ilocos Region), to explore 5 historic churches and some interesting sites, such as the Heritage City of Vigan, Crisologo Street, the sand dunes of Paoay, and my family's ancestral home - the Syquia Mansion. Finding the Philippines' 1st Sundial at Tagudin Church [Northern Churches & Sites of PH Ep 2]
Hello everyone, I’m Joel Syquia and welcome to my series on Northern Churches and Sites of the Philippines, where I ride for 5 days from Manila to the Ilocos region with my friends BY and George to explore 5 churches and other interesting sites up north.
In this episode, we ride from our resort in La Union to Tagudin, which is the southernmost municipality of Ilocos Sur, to visit the St. Augustine Parish Church and find the very 1st Sundial of the Philippines. We met some really kind students who proudly toured us around the church. We then traveled to Sabangan Cove for lunch and to see the famed Santorini of Ilocos.

The HISTORIC TOWN of TAGUDIN, ILOCOS SUR - the gateway to Ilocos Sur
The first two sundials were constructed in Tagudin in 1841 and 1845, as well as the site of the Base Hospital of the United States Armed Forces in the Philippines-Northern Luzon (USAFIP-NL) in 1945 during World War II. It was also the site of the military general headquarters of the USAFIP-NL 121st Infantry Regiments under the Philippine Commonwealth Army. The decisive Battle of Bessang Pass started in this municipality, at Bitalag.
