ITALY BY BIKE - THE RIVER PO DELTA FROM MESOLA TO COMACCHIO AND UP TO THE SEA!

ITALY BY BIKE - THE RIVER PO DELTA FROM MESOLA TO COMACCHIO AND UP TO THE SEA!

HERE YOU CAN SEE THE VIDEO OF THE FIRST RING-ROUTE ON THE RIVER PO DELTA, FROM THE MESOLA CASTLE TO THE LIGHTHOUSE ON THE ISOLA DELL'AMORE, THE SACCA DEGLI SCARDOVARI, THE LAVENDER FIELDS OF THE DELTA AND BACK ALONG THE FE20 CYCLE PATH TO THE MESOLA CASTLE

TODAY I WANT TO SHOW YOU A BEAUTIFUL ROUTE THAT GOES TOWARDS POMPOSA, THE VOLANO PINES FOREST, THE BEACHES OF COMACCHIO.
JUST CROSSED THE HIGWAY I PEDAL SURROUNDED BY A PEACEFUL RURAL LANDSCAPE HEADING TO THE GRAN BOSCO DELLA MESOLA WOOD, THAT’S WHAT REMAINS OF AN ANCIENT FOREST STRETCHED ALONG THE ADRIATIC COAST FOR CENTURIES . DEERS AND FALLOW DEERS CAN BE SEEN IN THIS NATURAL RESERVE, WHILE SOME AREAS ARE ONLY ACCESSIBLE WITH A GUIDED TOUR.

ROAD BIKES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR THIS ROUTE, WHICH CONSISTS OF MANY DIRT ROADS AND COUNTRY ROADS. MUCH BETTER A MOUNTAIN BIKE!
THE POMPOSA ABBEY IT’S VERY BEAUTIFUL! EVEN IF YOU USUALLY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN VISITING CHURCHES, THIS ONE IS REALLY STUNNING! AND ALSO BEHIND THE CHURCH THERE IS A SMALL PARK WITH A LITTLE POND, A BEAUTIFUL PLACE WHERE TO TAKE A BREAK, SIP SOMETHING FRESH AND RELAX.
THE 157 FEET-HIGH ROMANESQUE BELL TOWER WAS BUILT A THOUSAND YEARS AGO. IT’S THE PERFECT WELCOME TO THE ABBEY COMPLEX, MADE BY THE CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA, WITH LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL FRESCOES AND MOSAICS, AND THE POMPOSA MUSEUM, WITH INTERESTING FINDS FROM THE ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE. .

I REACH THE CANNAVIÈ OASIS, A NATURALISTIC PARADISE IDEAL FOR BIRD WATCHING. HERE I CANNOT RIDE MY BIKE! IT’S 1 MILE DRENCHED IN SILENT NATURE AND I EXIT BY THE PORTICINO OASIS, NEAR THE RESTAURANT CALLED MOSQUITO… NO EXPLANATION NEEDED!

I GET TO THE BEAUTIFUL VOLANO PINES FOREST, THAT RUNS FOR MILES BY THE SEA, BUT YOU CAN ALSO CYCLE INTO THE INNER PATH OF THE FOREST, THAT IS EASIER, AND SO GET THE CHANCE TO SEE THE WILD HORSES OF THE DELTA! THE AREA IS PRIVATE AND THEY ARE BEHIND A FENCE, IT’S A PLEASURE TO SEE THEM!
I PASS BY THE WOODEN SCULPTURE OF THE DINOSAUR AND LEAVE THE VOLANO PINES FOREST
I PEDAL FOR FEW MILES ALONG THE BEACHFRONT OF COMACCHIO, UP TO PORTO GARIBALDI AND THEN I LEAVE THE COAST AND HEAD TOWARDS THE OLD TOWN OF THE CITY, NEXT TO A HIGHWAY BUT ALWAYS ON THE DEDICATED CYCLE LANE.
I GET TO THE FAMOUS TREPPONTI BRIDGE, THE SYMBOL OF THE CITY, FOUNDED MILLENNIUMS AGO! INDEED THE ETRUSCANS FOUNDED THE NEARBY CITY OF SPINA, ON THE ADRIATIC COAST, IN THE SIXTH CENTURY BEFORE CHRIST. COMACCHIO IS A LOVELY TOWN AND IT’S CURIOUS THAT UNTIL 1821 IT WAS AN ISLAND, BUT I’M NOT GOING TO VISIT IT TODAY, BECAUSE I GOT HERE TO SEE ONE OF THE MOST KNOWN AND APPRECIATED AREAS OF THE RIVER PO DELTA: THE “VALLI DI COMACCHIO”!
THIS IS A REAL PARADISE! A DIRT ROAD RUNS FOR MILES IN A BEAUTIFUL NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND LEADS ME TO DISCOVER SOME OF THE MOST ICONIC PLACES OF THE DELTA, WHERE TIME SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED AT AN UNKNOWN POINT IN THE PAST, WITH THE FISHERMEN AND THEIR SMALL BOATS, THE BILANCINE - THOSE PILE-DWELLING BUILDINGS USED FOR FISHING - THE COMACCHIO SALT MINES, AND ABOVE ALL, THE UNDISPUTED STARS OF THIS LAND, THE PINK FLAMINGOS!

ALONG THE WIDE TOUR OF THE VALLI DI COMACCHIO YOU CAN DISCOVER OTHER BEAUTIFUL PLACES. THE SOUTHERN BANK OF THE LAGOON IS A PLACE NOT TO BE MISSED, AND FROM THE SOUTHERN BANK THE BOSCOFORTE PENINSULA STRETCHES INTO THE LAGOON FOR FEW MILES, A VERY BEAUTIFUL PLACE WHERE YOU CAN FIND WILD HORSES. BUT THE BOSCOFORTE PENINSULA IS A PRIVATE AREA. CURRENTLY YOU CAN ONLY VISIT THE FIRST PART WITH A GUIDED TOUR. BUT FOR 2021 THEY ARE THINKING OF OPENING THE WHOLE PENINSULA TO GUIDED TOURS BY BIKE AND KAYAK. NOTE THAT THE TOUR OF THE WHOLE LAGOON IS 30 MILES LONG, SO IT COULD BECOME A LONG TRIP. ALSO IN THE EASTERN AREA, BETWEEN THE VALLI AND THE SEA, AT THE HEIGHT OF THE BELLOCCHIO INLET, IT’S POSSIBLE TO CROSS THE GOBBINO CANAL ONLY ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH IS NOT A SAFE PLACE WHERE TO RIDE. ALSO CONSIDER THAT TO GET BACK TO THE CAR OR TO GO BACK HOME THE NEAREST TRAIN STATION IS OSTELLATO – 16 MILES FROM PORTO GARIBALDI

5 Things American Tourists Shouldn't Wear in Europe

Grab some of our gear

Please Note: Young People Wear Many of These Styles Throughout Europe. These tips are geared toward 35+ year old travelers. Thanks for watching!

Grab a Wolters World Shirt

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

IN BICI SUL DELTA PIU' GRANDE D'ITALIA! LA CICLABILE DEL PO - ANELLO DELLA MESOLA

IN BICI SUL DELTA PIU' GRANDE D'ITALIA! LA CICLABILE DEL PO - ANELLO DELLA MESOLA
L’AVVENTURA DI OGGI PARTE DAL CASTELLO DI MESOLA, IN PROVINCIA DI FERRARA. IN BICICLETTA PERCORRERÒ OLTRE 70KM LUNGO UN ITINERARIO SU STRADE ASFALTATE, STRADE STERRATE E DI CAMPAGNA, ALLA SCOPERTA DEI LUOGHI PIÙ BELLI DEL DELTA DEL PO. UN ITINERARIO MOLTO FACILE CHE POTETE PERCORRERE ANCHE VOI. QUESTO NON È SOLO UN'OTTIMA OCCASIONE PER FARSI UNA BELLA PEDALATA MA ANCHE UN ITINERARIO MOLTO INTERESSANTE DAL PUNTO DI VISTA PAESAGGISTICO! MI RACCOMANDO NIENTE BICI DA STRADA, MOLTO MEGLIO UNA GRAVEL O UNA MOUNTAIN BIKE, MEGLIO SE CON LE RUOTE UN PO’ LARGHE. STATE LEGGERI, PORTATE SOLO ACQUA, CREMA SOLARE E SE VOLETE QUALCOSA DA MANGIARE, MA COMUNQUE TROVATE BAR E RISTORANTI A GORO, A SANTA GIULIA E A SCARDOVARI.
PRONTI? E ALLORA SI PARTE!

L’ESSENZA DI QUESTI TERRITORI STRAPPATI AL FIUME SI PERCEPISCE GIÀ DALLE PRIME PEDALATE. TORRE ABATE NE E' UNA TESTIMONIANZA SIGNIFICATIVA. NEI SECOLI PASSATI QUESTA STRUTTURA PERMETTEVA IL DEFLUSSO DELLE ACQUE DELLE CAMPAGNE E IMPEDIVA IL REFLUSSO DI QUELLE MARINE. OGGI TORRE ABATE È UN’OASI DI ACQUA E VEGETAZIONE PALUSTRE, UNA PIACEVOLE META PER UNA PAUSA IMMERSI NELLA NATURA.

IL PERCORSO PROSEGUE IN PIANO SU UNA STRADA ASFALTATA LUNGO IL PO DI GORO, E DOPO QUALCHE KM RAGGIUNGO UN PONTE CHE UNISCE LE DUE SPONDE MA ANCHE DUE REGIONI, SI PASSA COSÌ DALL’EMILIA ROMAGNA AL VENETO. MA QUESTO NON È UN PONTE COME GLI ALTRI, INFATTI È UN PONTE SOSTENUTO DA BARCHE!
SI CONTINUA A PEDALARE LUNGO IL PO DI GORO FINCHÈ NON FINISCE LA TERRA SOTTO LE RUOTE, E SI ARRIVA AL MAR ADRIATICO!
UN POSTO STUPENDO! A METÀ STRADA TRA IL MARE E IL FIUME! SIAMO DI FRONTE AL FARO DI GORO, O FARO DELL'ISOLA DELL'AMORE. QUELLO CHE SI VEDE È IL FARO NUOVO, COSTRUITO NEGLI ANNI CINQUANTA DEL '900 DAL MOMENTO CHE I DETRITI DEPOSITATI DAL PO HANNO FATTO AVANZARE DI MOLTO LA LINEA DI COSTA, E PERCHÉ IL VECCHIO FARO È STATO BOMBARDATO DAI TEDESCHI DURANTE LA SECONDA GUERRA MONDIALE. SE AVETE TEMPO VI CONSIGLIO DI FARE UN GIRO ALL’ISOLA DELL’AMORE, IL PAESAGGIO È FANTASTICO! LA SPIAGGIA DELL'ISOLA È STATA DICHIARATA POCHI ANNI FA DA LEGAMBIENTE UNA DELLE SPIAGGE PIÙ BELLE D’ITALIA. INOLTRE PARE CHE QUI SI POSSANO VEDERE TARTARUGHE E PERSINO DEGLI ESEMPLARI DI LONTRA, UN ANIMALE CHE SI CREDEVA ORMAI ESTINTO IN QUESTA ZONA! SI PUÒ PARTIRE CON IL TRAGHETTO DA GORINO OPPURE DAL PIÙ VICINO IMBARCO DEL BACUCCO

SI RIPARTE! DESTINAZIONE: LA SACCA DEGLI SCARDOVARI! DOPO UN ALTRO PONTE DI BARCHE, QUESTA VOLTA SUL PO DI GNOCCA, PEDALO PER ALCUNI CHILOMETRI DI FIANCO A CAMPI COLTIVATI. ED ECCOLE LÌ LE CAVÀNE, LE TIPICHE COSTRUZIONI SOSPESE SULL’ACQUA USATE DAI PESCATORI DI SCARDOVE (PESCE CHE DA IL NOME ALLA SACCA DEGLI SCARDOVARI). QUESTO È UN AMPIO BACINO LAGUNARE PROTETTO DAL MARE DAGLI SCANNI, OVVERO DELLE LINGUE DI SABBIA LUNGHE E STRETTE CHE SONO SEMPRE IN MOVIMENTO PERCHÉ LE MAREE E IL VENTO SPOSTANO IN CONTINUAZIONE LA SABBIA DA UN PUNTO AD UN ALTRO. LA PROFONDITÀ DELL' ACQUA, LA TEMPERATURA E LA PARTICOLARE SALINITÀ RENDONO QUESTA ZONA PERFETTA PER LA COLTIVAZIONE DEI MITILI, OVVERO COZZE, VONGOLE E OSTRICHE, TANTO CHE LA SACCA DEGLI SCARDOVARI SI FREGIA DELLA PRESENZA DI DUE SPECIE AUTOCTONE DI GRANDE PREGIO, OVVERO LA COZZA DI SCARDOVARI DOP E L’OSTRICA ROSA “PERLA DEL DELTA”. LA STRADA ASFALTATA CHE FA IL GIRO DELLA SACCA È DAVVERO UNO SPETTACOLO! POCO TRAFFICATA E PERMETTE DI IMMERGERSI TOTALMENTE IN QUESTE ATMOSFERE LAGUNARI DAVVERO PARTICOLARI!
COME IN TUTTO IL DELTA DEL PO MEGLIO VENIRCI IN PRIMAVERA O IN AUTUNNO. D'INVERNO C'È NEBBIA ED È MOLTO UMIDO - PUÒ ANCHE GHIACCIARE - E D'ESTATE OMBRA NON CE N'È!

ATTRAVERSO L’OASI DI CA’ MELLO E DEVIO VERSO UN POSTO CHE MAI AVREI CREDUTO DI POTER VEDERE SUL DELTA DEL PO, E CHE RICORDA PIÙ CHE ALTRO IL SUD DELLA FRANCIA...EPPURE C’È ANCHE QUI! SONO I CAMPI DI LAVANDA DEL DELTA, CHE IN PIENA ESTATE SI TRASFORMANO IN UNO SPETTACOLO DI COLORI E PROFUMI, VISITATI DA UN SACCO DI TURISTI! (CHE PERÒ NON SANNO, O FANNO FINTA DI NON SAPERE, CHE SONO PRIVATI, E PUR DI SCATTARSI UNA FOTO ENTRANO E CALPESTANO I FIORI)

È ARRIVATO IL MOMENTO DI TORNARE VERSO MESOLA. LO FACCIAMO CON UN GIRO ALTERNATIVO, PUNTIAMO SEMPRE I DUE PONTI DI BARCHE E POI SI SEGUE LA PISTA CICLABILE FE20 FINO A MESOLA. CONOSCIUTA ANCHE COME “DESTRA DEL PO”, LA PISTA COLLEGA GORINO A STELLATA DI BONDENO, CIRCA 120 KM DI PISTA CICLABILE!
IL SOLE È SEMPRE PIÙ BASSO SULL’ORIZZONTE, E LA FATICA DEI KM FATTI CHE INIZIA A FARSI SENTIRE È RIPAGATA DALLA MORBIDA LUCE DEL TRAMONTO, CHE RENDE ANCORA PIÙ BELLI QUESTI PAESAGGI ED ACCENTUA LA SENSAZIONE DI SERENITÀ CHE SI RESPIRA LUNGO LE SPONDE DEL GRANDE FIUME!

Exploring The BEST Things To Do In BANJA LUKA!!

Today w'ere exploring the best things to do in BANJA LUKA!!!

I'll be the first to admit that I knew absolutely nothing about Banja Luka before we arrived. We booked our flight without having any idea what we'd see or do when we arrived, but that's the beautiful thing about travel. You jump into the unknown & come out better for it. Come with us as we explore the things to do in Banja Luka!

We kicked off with some Fabricka Coffee and I don’t believe this coffee shop was specifically local, but it was the only one that I could find that was open today and not a cafe LOL.

One of the first things you’ll see when you google Banja Luka is a picture of Christ The Savior Orthodox Cathedral. It’s the most famous structure in the city and serves as the center of town. It was originally built in 1929 but was partially destroyed in 1941 by bombings during WW2. The present cathedral is architecturally identical to the original and was completed in 2004.

While you’re nearby also be sure to take a peak at the President of the Republic of Srpska’s House. It’s right across from the cathedral and is pretty clearly an important building based on the security presence.

Right in the center of town is Gospodska Street. It’s the oldest and busiest street in Banja Luka & has a host of clothing, jewelry, and other various shops. Gospodska translates to Gentleman’s which has been around since 1878, but the actual name of the street is Veselin Maslesa Street.

For lunch we picked Banjalučki Splav, or Banja Luka Raft, for lunch because you can’t beat this location. It’s right on the Vrbas River and looks so cool from the City Bridge so we figured we’d come down here to try and get some Ćevapi. Ćevapi is the national dish of both Bosnia & Herzegovina as well as Serbia, and the Bosnian version is made of two different types of minced beef meat.

Back across the Vrbas River is a place called Gradska Tržnica, which translates to City Market. This place is MASSIVE and reminds me of what I would imagine a mall would’ve felt like before the modern version of malls existed. You can basically get anything you could ever need here from fruits & veggies, to hand-made trinkets, to full-on wardrobes.

Right between the Banja Luka Raft & City Market is the Kastel Fortress. It’s medieval but it’s situated on the site of previous fortifications that go back to Roman and even pre-Roman times, making it the oldest historical monument in the city. The Kastel Fortress is widely considered the most important symbol and the stone heart of the city of Banja Luka.

One really interesting detail about Bosnia is it’s a melting pot of cultures. We’ve already seen a Serbian Orthodox cathedral, and now we’re stopping over at the Ferhat Pasha Mosque. This classic Ottoman mosque was built back in 1579 and stood for almost 400 years before being destroyed during the Bosnian War between 1992 and 1995.

Dinner was at a restaurant called Kod Brke which translates to At The Mustache. It’s one of the more popular restaurants in town, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to break the bank eating here for a night. The prices for food are very reasonable and they’ve got a great mix of local, as well as Italian dishes to choose from.

We’re ended the day at a place called Master Craft Brewery. The menu has a great selection of local beers, which includes IPAs which are our favorites!!

We hope you enjoyed our vlog of Banja Luka and hopefully we gave you some ideas for when you visit!! Please subscribe to follow along and if you enjoyed the video then hit the like button as it greatly helps us!! Thanks and see you in a few days!!
