A Trip to Tasov, Czech Republic
In this video I share the highlights of my short visit to Tasov in the Czech Republic.
Tasov is a village near Velké Meziříčí. There is a baroque church of St. Peter and St. Paul, and ruins of a gothic stronghold Hrádek below the village. The village also has a cute old town area, some quaint cafes, and it's not often visited by tourists.

[4K] Štramberk - ciekawe miasteczko w Czechach (interesting town in Czechia) (videoturysta.eu)

[EN] We visited Štramberk in sunny autumn. Štramberk is a small town in the Moravian-Silesian Region, Czechia, near Nový Jičín and Příbor, about 40 km south of Ostrava. The village was founded on a wooded hillside of limestone, on top of which is located an interesting castle tower (Trúba). Due to the location of the city and its many sights, as well as of the unique wooden houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the town was called the Moravian Bethlehem. Near the town there is the Šipka cave, where the remnants of a Neanderthal child's bones were found.

Prague Czech August 2013
Upon entering Czech Republic, we first went to St. Vitus Cathedral which is commonly known as Prague Castle. St. Vitus Cathedral (Katedrála svatého Víta) is a Gothic masterpiece, and the spiritual symbol of the Czech state. The cathedral was commissioned by Charles IV, and construction began in 1344 on the site of an earlier 10th century rotunda. It took almost six centuries to complete, with the final phase of construction in the period 1873-1929. Next, we descend through the picturesque Lesser Town (Malá Strana), walking down the Royal Way, Nerudova Street, and on to Charles Bridge. As we cross Charles Bridge, one of Europe's oldest stone bridges, take in the beautiful views along the river, before reaching the Old Town, the medieval centre of Prague. We explore the cobbled streets around the Old Town Square. Next, we went to the spa city about 130 km west of Prague in western Bohemia called the Karlovy Vary (German: Karlsbad). It is named after King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370. It is historically famous for its hot springs, popular for international celebrities visiting for spa treatment. The city has been used as the location for a number of films, such as the James Bond's Casino Royal and the Last Holiday, both of which used the city's Grandhotel Pupp Hotel. Also popular is the traditional spa wafers with curative procedures. Treatment exploits centuries-proven thermal baths and drinking cure as well as modern methods cryotherapy, floating, laser therapy, etc.
The southwestern castle city of Cesky Krumlov is one of the Czech Republic's finest medieval sites. Its Old Town is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site, a maze of twisting alleys built around the extensive Cesky Krumlov castle. We visited the castle for beautiful views. Entry to the tower requires a fee and a steep walk up close steps past a huge bell but the view is spectacular across the hills and down to the winding river. Cafes and tourist shops, church and quaint atmosphere are highlights. The gushing Vltava, popular with rafting enthusiasts, darts through the town. Before we left Czech Republic and entered Austria, we stopped by the sounth Bohemia city of Ceske Budejovice, known by the German name Budweis in the 19th century. The city has been a center of brewing since the 13th century. The original inspiration for the American version, Budwar or Budweiser beer remains one of the most popular in the country. This South Bohemian metropolis was founded in 1265 by the Czech King Premysl Otakar II on the confluence of the Vltava and Malse Rivers. The other important town monuments include the originally renaissance Town Hall, the Samson's fountain and 72 m high the Black Tower which provides a beautiful view of the town and surroundings.
How to use the Prague metro
This is your quick guide to using the Prague metro. Don't worry, it's easy and fun to get around the city. The metro makes things fast and reliable too. For more info visit

České dráhy (ČD) or Czech Railways is the main railway operator in the Czech Republic. In 2010 its consolidated revenues reached CZK 41.0 billion (€1.6bn, $2.1bn). Revenues from passenger transport amounted to CZK 18.7 billion (65% transfer payments from the government, 25% intra-state transport, 10% international transport), revenues from freight transport operated by subsidiary ČD Cargo amounted to CZK 11.8 billion, revenues from traffic control invoiced to state-owned railway infrastructure operator SŽDC amounted to CZK 5.2 billion. With thirty-eight thousand employees ČD Group is the largest Czech company by the number of employees.
The company was established in 1993, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia as a successor of the Czechoslovak State Railways. It is a member of the International Railway Union (UIC Country Code for Czech Republic is 54), Community of European Railways and the Organization for Railways Cooperation (Asia and Europe).
Until 1 July 2008, České dráhy was the biggest employer in the Czech Republic. After experiencing regular losses and requiring government subsidies, the railway reported its first ever profit in 2007 although it receives government subsidies. Attempts to make it more efficient are currently ongoing and a recent plan to move passenger transport to an independent subsidiary was approved by the Czech government in January 2008.
ČD operates trains; fixed infrastructure (such as tracks) is managed by SŽDC. In December 2010, the Czech government proposed bringing SŽDC and ČD together in a single holding company. The government has also changed the subsidies available to ČD and SŽDC.
ČD Cargo, the cargo subsidiary, mainly transports raw materials, intermediate goods and containers. As of 2009, it is ranked in the top five largest railway cargo operators in Europe.
