Short trip to Cheb (Czech Republic). Its a fantastic town. (1/2)

Welcome back. Have you seen my last videos about my journey in Ireland. I thought it`s not a bad idea to make a short trip to Cheb, located in the Czech Republic, near the german border. I self have never been there, but I have heard many good things about the small town. Allown the location in a hill region was a reason to come.

The town Cheb:
The small town Cheb in the west part of the Czech Republic, located in the area Bohemia has 32000 residents and is well known for education and industry. According to the history ,the name came from the word bend, from the river which flows in the valley of the town. In the middle ages, the town had reached its peak. The first document came from August 13th 1061. Later in 1162, the Margraves by the bavarian northgau built the castle on the place not far away of the river. Some years later, in 1167, Cheb landed in the ownership of the staufer monarch Friedrich the second. He signed the golden bull of Eger on July 12th 1213, in order to strengthen Chebs Legal status, using the power of the church states. In 1242 the town got the rights of a city by the capitol of Nuremburg and became a rich town. Cheb was always, and is still one of the symbols of Bohemia. Over the history the town became famous for its old castle, for the Saint Nicholas church, for the market- place and especially for the museum Cheb where the famous commander Wallenstein, lived and was killed. In the past, Cheb was a part of Germany until 1945, the end of the second war. Today, everybody visiting the town will see that the buildings and streets were a part of Germany in the past. Since 2002, Cheb is a member of the united Friends in the Heath of Europe, and lead a cooperation with Marktredwitz, Hof and Waldsassen, some other small towns in the area around Cheb and behind the german border. Every two years Cheb offers the international Youth wind orchestra festival. Its famous and popular for young people from all over the world. For tourists, groups and natives the town offers plenty of infrastructure, streets and train connections, to get around. It has an airport for national flights as well.

Saint Nikolaus Church:
The Sant Nikolaus Church build in the 13 century is a typical romanic Basilika included by two towers, three naves and a crypt in the basmend. From the first construction is still only the down parts of the two towers both the Westportal there. In the time between 1456 and 1476 many nobel people invest the modification of the church. The today look has the church from the last renovation in 1966. To the most popular inside found from the past is the old baptismal font, the organ build by Martin Zaus and the old krypt and the two Renaissance tombstones in the fron whole. Its a old church but during a stay in Cheb a must.

Saint Bartholomous:
The small Saint. Bartholomous church was a typical gothic church in the past. Donated by a family from Asch and build by Lords of the Cross. Long time, the church was the own of chivalrous Lords of the Cross. During the second world war the church became a hard atrrack and some years later in the 60 years the community of Cheb sponsered the reconstruction of the old building. Its a unpopular place in Cheb but for tourists a sightseeing.

The tour through the city center:
I went by bike from the station, via the shopping passage to the marking place. I self have never been there. My first look of Cheb was boring and bad. After spending some minutes at the marking place, I visit the church and I changed my opinien. The people which I saw were not even friendly but their english language was enough for a small conversation. I ride down to the river and bought some food in a small restaurant not far away from the castle. The upside: You can pay cash or with card in euro or krone. And the prices on all menu cards are cheap. The area on the river was not bad. There I spend time for a break for having lunch and visit the castle and the museum of Cheb. All was interesting but this will coming next week in my second video on my trip in Cheb.

Mělník - Beautiful city of Bohemian queens near Prague, Czech Republik ASMR 4K HDR

In this video, we will walk in the town Mělník, which is located not far from Prague to the north. It is a stunningly located city with amazing views and history.

Mělník is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. It lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers, approximately 35 km (22 mi) north of Prague. The town center is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone.
In the 5th and 6th centuries, many Slavonic tribes lived here, and the tribe of Pšovans created its main settlement in Mělník. Saint Ludmila (the grandmother of Saint Wenceslaus), who married the Bohemian prince Bořivoj I, belonged to this tribe. Coins of the princess Emma are the first demonstration of the existence of Mělník. In November 1274, Mělník gained the statute of town from King Ottokar II of Bohemia and later became a dowry town belonging to the queens of Bohemia. Many Czech monarchs knew very well just how necessary it was to keep their other-halves happy, and the existence of Dowry Towns serves as an example of this. There were nine such towns in total, and Mělník was one of them.

A Trip to Slavonice, Czech Republic

Came across some footage from my trip to Slavonice, Czech Republic and put together this short video.

I was only in Slavonice for an afternoon and early morning before heading towards Austria to continue the trip. Rather than staying in Prague, we decided to spend the night in Slavonice and relax after a long flight.

Slavonice is a quaint, lovely little town that's definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. There is some beautiful architecture in Slavonice and I definitely want to visit again in the future and spend a whole day wandering around.

Old Town Square, Prague Travel Video | We Travel

On the Old Town Square, Prague which in Czech is called “Starometske Namesti” stands the Old Town Hall, the Tyn Church, and one can see the towers of the Magazine and the towers of the Charles Bridge, all built in the same fashion. The square itself is approximately 9000 square meters; its shape and size had been decided around 1230 AD by King Wenceslas I. The 800 years passed since then made their mark.

The famous clock of the Town Hall, the “Prague Orloj” was designed by Nicholas of Copenhagen, and was later modified by clock masters Hanus and Taborsky.

The word “Tyn” means market, so the Tyn Church means “a church standing in the market square”. The gothic building with the archway on the eastern side of the square is partly hiding the Church. There was a school here where the famous architect, Matej Rejsek, taught.

The buildings of the Old Town Square were named – according to medieval tradition - after the residents, their purpose or their sculptures. This music school is called Smetana and was established by the composer himself.

The Roman buildings of the Old Town were 2-3 meters below sea level, so every spring, when the Vltava flooded, they were in danger. The area was artificially banked up at the end of the 13th century, so the first floor of the Roman buildings became the basement for the gothic houses. Along the city wall there was a deep moat, which was filled up at the same time. It became the inner boulevard, similarly to Vienna’s Ring and the Graben.

The Old Town Square is still the heart of Prague.

Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic

The Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic, running southeast along the Bohemian Forest and then north across Bohemia, through Český Krumlov, České Budějovice, and Prague, and finally merging with the Elbe at Mělník. It is commonly referred to as the Czech national river.

Both the Czech name Vltava and the German name Moldau are believed to originate from the old Germanic words *wilt ahwa (wild water; compare Latin aqua).[5] In the Annales Fuldenses (872 AD) it is called Fuldaha; from 1113 AD it is attested as Wultha. In the Chronica Boemorum (1125 AD) it is attested for the first time in its Bohemian form, Wlitaua.
Course

The Vltava from Bohnice viewing point
The Vltava river is 430.3 kilometers (267.4 mi) long and drains an area of 28,090 square kilometers (10,850 sq mi) in size, over half of Bohemia and about a third of the Czech Republic's entire territory. As it runs through Prague, the river is crossed by 18 bridges (including the Charles Bridge) and covers 31 kilometers (19 mi) within the city.[8] The water from the river was used for drinking until 1912 when the Vinohrady Water Tower ceased pumping operations. It is, however, the source of drinking water in case of failures or repairs to the water supply from the Želivka and Kárané sources. The Podolí water processing plant is on standby for such cases with the long section of the river upstream of the Podolí plant under the stricter, second-degree of pollution prevention regulations.

The height difference from source to mouth is about 1,016 meters (3,333 ft) and the largest stream at the source is named Černý Potok (Black Brook) or Teplá Vltava (Warm Vltava). The Vltava itself originates from a confluence of two streams, the Warm Vltava (Teplá Vltava [cs]), which is longer, and the Cold Vltava (Studená Vltava), sourced in Bavaria. Along its course, Vltava receives many tributaries, the biggest being Otava and Berounka on the left and Lužnice and Sázava on the right side
Navigation

Náplavka Smíchov ferry dock in Prague
Between the confluence with the Elbe at Mělník and Prague, the river is navigable by vessels of up to 1,000 tonnes (980 long tons; 1,100 short tons) displacement. Most of the river upstream of Prague as far as České Budějovice is currently navigable by the craft of up to 300 tonnes (300 long tons; 330 short tons) displacement, but such vessels cannot pass the dams at Orlík and Slapy, and are also restricted by a low bridge at Týn nad Vltavou. Work is planned to complete boat lifts, planned for but never completed, at the two dams, and to rebuild the bridge, for them to navigate throughout. Much smaller craft, of up to 3.5 tonnes (3.4 long tons; 3.9 short tons) displacement and under 3 meters (9.8 ft) beam and 3 meters (9.8 ft) air draft, can avoid these obstacles.

Upstream of České Budějovice, the river's section around Český Krumlov (specifically from Vyšší Brod to Boršov nad Vltavou) is a very popular destination for water tourism.
Dams

Historic Centre of Český Krumlov near Vltava river
Nine hydroelectric dams have been built on the Vltava south of Prague to regulate the water flow and generate hydroelectric power, starting in the 1930s. Beginning at the headwaters, these are Lipno, Lipno II, Hněvkovice, Kořensko, Orlík, Kamýk, Slapy, Štěchovice, and Vrané. The Orlík dam supports the largest reservoir on the Vltava by volume, while the Lipno dam retains the largest reservoir by area. The Štěchovice Reservoir is built over the site of St John's Rapids.

The river also features numerous weirs that help mitigate its flow from 1,172 meters (3,845 ft) in elevation at its source near the German border to 155 meters (509 ft) at its mouth in Mělník.

Vltava, řeka plná zážitků: Vyšší Brod - České Budějovice

Druhý úsek Vltavy je jedním z nejrušnějších, alespoň co se vodní turistiky v jižních Čechách týká. Lze na něm překonat celou nádrž Lipno a občas i Čertovy proudy a sjet si nejznámější vodácký úsek skrz Český Krumlov.
