Yaroslavl, Russia. Best Russian historical city to visit
Situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers around 300 km north-east of Moscow, the historic city of Yaroslavl developed into a major commercial centre from the 11th century.
There are two major passenger railway stations in Yaroslavl. They can be easily mixed up. The one you are probably looking for is called ‘Yaroslavl-Glavny’. The city is connected to Moscow by a fast electric train service with comfortable seats. Just 3 hours from the capital of Russia and you are in the very centre of Yaroslavl.
Yaroslavl is one of the Golden Ring cities, a group of historic cities northeast of Moscow that have played an important role in Russian history. The historic part of the city is a World Heritage Site.
One of the central squares of Yaroslavl is called Sovetskaya. Ironically, the most beautiful and notable orthodox church in the town is located just here. This is the Church of Elijah the Prophet, which is a very prominent example of the way in which the city developed in the 17th century.
The church of the Epiphany is an Orthodox church in Yaroslavl. Built in 17th century as well, it is known for beautiful fresco paintings and tiled decoration of facades.
Another famous cathedral in Yaroslavl, Uspensky, was built in the 13th century and destroyed in the Soviet era, the city park was created on its place. The cathedral was rebuilt in 2010, its construction was completed to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl.
While walking around the city centre you will definitely find this Kremlin-alike construction. The truth is it is not the Yaroslavl Kremlin, it is the Cathedral of the Spassky (St Savior) Monastery. The Cathedral is the oldest buildings in the city. Typical for a Russian monastery of the Middle Ages, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Yaroslavl was not built to be no more than a place of worship, but also to be a citadel and kremlin in case, in times of war.
Just near this monastery you can find a little structure, the Lady of Kazan Chapel. If you have a one thousand rubles banknote, you can find it there as well along with the monument to Yaroslav the Wise, the founder of the city.
1000 Anniversary of Yaroslavl was celebrated in Russia in 2003. Huge part of the historic centre was renovated with some new sightseeings constructed. Strelka park is one of them, it’s a huge promenade area at the bank of the Volga river with beautiful views. The Volga embankment is a good example of urban planning in the classicist style; built in the 1840s, this promenade walk has remained a favourite place for residents to take a stroll and relax ever since.

Russia 🇷🇺, Cape Strelka, Perm region
Cape Strelka in the Perm Territory is a great place to relax on a day off and admire the landscape of the Kama Reservoir. The cape was formed at the confluence of the Kama and Chusovaya rivers, it is a high rock that has been undermined by water and wind for over 200 million years.
It is beautiful on Strelka at any time of the year, it offers a stunning view of the outskirts of the city of Perm - the microdistricts of Levshino, Golovanovo, KamGes, Zaozerye, Gaiva and nearby villages. From the cape you can clearly see the confluence of the Chusovaya River into the Kama and the vast Kama reservoir.
Traces of a Rodanovsky settlement dating back to the beginning of the second millennium were found here. The people who lived in these places were engaged in fishing, hunting and gathering. In the 18th century, the large port of Levshino was built below Cape Strelka, which served iron caravans sailing along the Chusovaya River from the metallurgical plants of the Urals. The Solikamsky tract passed here, which connected the north of the Perm province with the center.
A trip to Cape Strelka is a great option for relaxing on a day off. The cape is located near the city, the trip will not take much time. When visiting, do not forget to take protection from the wind, as well as take precautions - the height of the rocks reaches 30 meters.

0:00 Start
0:30 Winter Palace
I am running short of words after exploring the Hermitage museum. The whole experience was captivating. I could not see it fully, but what I witnessed is beyond explanation. You need the whole day to see the museum and there are always long queues of people waiting to explore the magnificent museum. It is worth watching and tickets usually start from 700 rubles. If you want to skip lines, tickets can cost you between $40-60. This place is highly recommended to visit but be ready to exhaust one day. Decide properly if you want to visit the palace, especially if you are on a short trip to Saint-Petersburg.
1:46 The Palace Square
On my first day in Saint Petersburg, I was just rambling around Nevsky avenue and walked about 1.5 km to the place square without realizing that it is a popular landmark. I checked on google and it happened to be Palace Square right opposite to the State Hermitage Museum. I was stunned to see the enormous square. You will find a lot of street musicians and activities happening around. Please do not forget to capture panorama shots of the whole square. It is worth watching so be there.
3:10 Kazan Cathedral
Kazan cathedral is located near Nevsky ave metro station on Nevsky Avenue street. It is opposite to the Savior of Spilled blood church. The entry to Kazan cathedral is free however, photography is not allowed inside. The building has an aesthetic touch to it and reveals a lot about its history. Around the area, you have shopping stores and a busy market. You can spot the iconic church easily while roaming around the streets of Nevsky avenue.
3:51 Savior on the Spilled Blood
Incredible cathedral from the inside and one of the main attractions of Saint Petersburg. The ticket costs 350 rubles which is cheap. It is worth watching. Opposite of Savior on the Spilled Blood, is Kazan cathedral which just 5-10 mins walk away. The place around the church is very peaceful. You will find many souvenir shops, eatery stalls, and painters. Despite the touristy spot, it is clean and peaceful.
4:56 BrStrelka Vasil'yevskogo Ostrova
I was here but did not know whether I was at Strelka Vasil'yevskogo. As you proceed from Winter Palace across the street you have a big view of the Neva river. Make your passage to the left and cross over a bridge and you will find yourself at Strelka Vasil'yevskogo Ostrova. Along the way, you can capture some beautiful views of the river. Do activities such as river cruise, dine in restaurants, buy souvenirs, etc. You can spot many tourists in that area. It's a suitable and safest route to Peter and Paul fortress especially if you are walking.
6:07 Peter and Paul Fortress
What a grand fortress. 2.5 km from Nevsky ave, it is located on an island across the Neva River. I walked up to the fortress from my hotel at Nevsky avenue and enjoyed the sightseeing all the way to my destiny. You can snack on some ice cream to cool off and have beverages. There is a convergence of people every day at Peter and Paul fortress due to its popularity. You can take tickets to the cathedral which costs about 500 rubles but it is worth spending. The glittering chandeliers and colorful art of the cathedral make the whole experience exclusive. Usually, it is closed on Thursdays. This place is recommended to visit. I give it a thumbs up.
6:56 Bronze Horseman
There are big lawns around the statue of the Bronze horseman. The major landmark around is St Issac Cathedral. You can spot Indian restaurants Tandoori Nights and The Indian restaurant.
7:51 Anichkov Bridge
Nice place to hang out, busy, and a beautiful street. Great river views to capture with some amazing shots.
