Long Island Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Long Island – Less than an hour’s drive from NYC, find the first of the island’s much-loved beaches. From there, follow us through the coolest parts of the area.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Long Island:

A #LongIsland #vacation sends you eastward from the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the bluffs of Montauk Point. A short train ride from Manhattan is Long Beach, which for many is where Long Island begins. Visit Fire Island Lighthouse, which for generations of immigrants was their first glimpse of America. It was on Long Island’s northern shores where the mansions were built that would inspire F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby.

#Visit the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Hempstead and continue your flight into the past at the American Airpower Museum. #Explore the pioneer settlement of Southampton Village and nearby Sag Harbor, a historic whaling port immortalized in Moby Dick. America’s first president, George Washington, commissioned Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island’s easternmost point. Climb to the top to take in the sweeping views of this place that has played center stage in some of America’s greatest stories.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Road Trip to Stony Point Battlefield and Lighthouse New York

Road Trip to Stony Point Battlefield and Lighthouse New York was an awesome trip. All the way the scenic view was very enjoyable. Hope you are going to like it.
Visit the site of the Battle of Stony Point, one of the last Revolutionary War battles in the northeastern colonies. This is where Brigadier General Anthony Wayne led his corps of Continental Light Infantry in a daring midnight attack on the British, seizing the site's fortifications and taking the soldiers and camp followers at the British garrison as prisoners on July 16, 1779.

By May 1779 the war had been raging for four years and both sides were eager for a conclusion. Sir Henry Clinton, Commander-In-Chief of the British forces in America, attempted to coerce General George Washington into one decisive battle to control the Hudson River. As part of his strategy, Clinton fortified Stony Point. Washington devised a plan for Wayne to lead an attack on the garrison. Armed with bayonets only, the infantry captured the fort in short order, ending British control of the river.

The Stony Point Lighthouse, built in 1826, is the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson River. De-commissioned in 1925, it now stands as a historical reminder of the importance of lighthouses to commerce on the Hudson River.

What people says about Beaver Pond Campground:
1) Awesome place. There are sonantes thing to do here. We spent the night, and it was super nice. The campsite has a flat platform where you can put your rent. Plus a nice green area around with a fireplace and everything.... the kids loved. There’s a playground, a beach, restrooms, shower. All in a walking distance. I highly recommend this place for camping or even just hiking and spending the day at. It’s just a few minutes from Bear mountain. Anyways. This place rock.
2) Wonderful camping experience. They have platforms for the tents. But not every site has platforms. There isn't a lot of cover from trees between the campsites. But that never caused any problems. Washrooms are good with electrical outlets for trimmers/hair dryers/phone charging. There is a lake beach with lifeguards. Everybody follows the no music from 10 pm till 8 am rule. Trailer dump site available. Overall we had an absolutely wonderful time.
3) I've been camping here a few weeks now while working in the area, it's been enjoyable overall. Usually quiet during the week. All walks of life camping here. Lots of wildlife to see if you're silent and still. Good fishing and hiking. The bathrooms are good (I've seen better and worse).
4) Nice state park with a lake and hiking, but loud and crowded campground. Not enough trees to provide privacy between sites. Stay during the week--it gets crazy here on the weekends! And if you like privacy stay in the W section. All of NYC likes to commute here Friday night for some peace and quiet. 🤣 Our neighbors set up camp at 1 a.m. which woke us up. Nobody seems to be enforcing the quiet hours. After the Rangers go to bed at midnight you have to fend for yourself. Good luck.
5) Great beach access and lots of good hikes in area (you need a car to get to good hikes). The campsite was crowded but we did go on Father's day. I was hoping for something a bit more rustic and isolated, hence the 4 stars.
6) Went on a Monday afternoon. It was quiet, pretty, staff was nice. Perfect place for a mid-week camp. I can tell it probably gets packed here on weekends and holidays and the proximity of the campsites could be an issue for anyone wanting a quieter experience.
7) Best place of New York and New Jersey for tent camping. !!!
8) I love this campground. They have plenty of amenities but not so many to where you don't feel lime your camping. Great to take kids, expert and first time campers. Very secure, easy commute.
9) It was a very pleasant stay for my family. We stayed there on a Saturday. The whole campground was full. I was a little skeptical due to some reviews but we enjoyed it thoroughly despite the crowd. The bathrooms were clean. We extended to Sunday and it was still nice with the campground being almost empty. There is a lot of fun stuff to do with Bear Mountain being so close.
10) If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature, this is not your campground. If you have 5 kids under the age of 12, then this is your place. Bring your screaming kids, boomboxes, power tools, whatever you want, really. There is no enforcement of quiet hours. My block in Brooklyn is honestly quieter.
