Strinesdale or Strine Dale Reservoirs - One of the Oldham Beauty Spots!

North of Oldham in Greater Manchester lies Strine Dale or Strinesdale Reservoirs - commonly known as the Waterworks. These are not too far from the local areas of Moorside, Counthill, Oldham, Lees, Sholver, Shaw, Grains Bar, Derker, Denshaw, Shaw and Delph. All parts of Saddleworth

They have become popular tourist spots today.

During the summer of 2020, I made a video - using both the Mavic Mini 2 and Mavic 2 Pro - of these reservoirs which are closely located together - surrounded by the undulating countryside of High Moor, Count Hill. Lower Count Hill and Top o'th' Meadows.

Here is the final version.

The music is courtesy of

My other videos include:

Reflections - a video of Saddleworth's Dowry, Crook gate and New Year's Bridge reservoirs in Summer 2021

Save Derker Greenbelt - the campaign to stop the building on Oldham Greenbelt land in 2021

A Winter on Besom Hill - situated at Grain's Bar between Oldham and Saddleworth, a video of the old quarry during the snowy period of 2020

Short walk around Stalybridge

04/Jun/2020. Trafford Centre, Chinley and Walk: Guide Bridge - Stalybridge (part 1 of 2).

I thought it was about time I did a video on the new Trafford Centre Metrolink line. I combined this with trip to Chinley for the usual so on the way there I nipped over to Patricroft. I walked the relatively short distance to the Trafford Centre from there, but didn’t bother going in on this occasion. I took the tram to Pomona which is were it joins the rest of the network, but instead of continuing into Manchester city centre I as good as doubled back to Eccles. In doing this I managed to score another bit of Metrolink track; the curve from Media City to Broadway! Once I arrived at Eccles I walked up to the Network Rail station and continued to Chinley.

On the way back I decided to walk another section of the Huddersfield line; Guide Bridge to Stalybridge. This walk saved going back into Manchester. I only just made it to Stalybridge with a few minutes to spare!

Part two will follow shorty.

27/Apr/2023. Stalybridge and Chinley.

Following several days/weeks shutdown at Stalybridge I though I’d go and check out what’s been going on. Overhead gantries have been erected and the track and signalling has been upgraded. Not bad!

Later I called in at my usual places in Chinley.
