Walk Along River Wansbeck, Ashington UK | 4K Walking Tour
The River Wansbeck runs through the county of Northumberland, England. It rises above Sweethope Lough on the edge of Fourlaws Forest in the area known locally as The Wanneys (Great Wanney Crag, Little Wanney Crag; thus the Wanneys Beck); runs through the town of Ashington before discharging into the North Sea at Sandy Bay near Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.
The River flows through the village of Kirkwhelpington, Hartburn, where the tributary Hart Burn joins, the village of Mitford, where the River Font joins, and the town of Morpeth.
The River Wansbeck is nicknamed the River Wanney. The term 'The Wilds of Wanney' is used by people of Tyneside to refer to the rural areas of Northumberland where the Wansbeck rises.
The River lent its name to the former Wansbeck district which was based in Ashington, and included Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Bedlington and Stakeford.

POV: you walked from Staithes to Runswick Bay along the Cleveland Way.
Not gonna lie, the scenery was beautiful but this probably wasn’t the smartest idea I’ve ever had 😅 it was so incredibly windy off the cliffs, which made for a potentially dangerous situation.. but I live in the wild side!
I was surprised to see this path so close to the cliffs edge, clear outside the fence, which didn’t make sense to me!
Runswick Bay is another seaside village, even smaller than Staithes if you can believe it. This time, there was a steep steep walk down to the bay and it was an absolute trial getting back to the top. At one point in the 1880s, it was an “art colony” 🎨

Blyth Beach
Blyth South Beach is a long, golden stretch of sandy beach running from the pier at the mouth of the River Blyth to the dunes at Seaton Sluice links.
The total length of the beach itself between the pier and Seaton sluice is approximately 2.8 miles. At the end closest to the port, there is a long pier that offers spectacular views of the river and north sea. From here you can walk along the inside of the harbour wall past the docked yachts and Blyth's famous LV50 Lightship or across the sand towards the promenade.
Throughout the year the beach is a popular location. From early morning dog walkers to locals enjoying a leisurely evening stroll, the beautiful coast has something to offer everyone.
In the Spring and Summer months, visitors flock to the coast to use Blyth's famous candy-coloured miniature Beach Huts, indulge in Fish and Chips at Coastline Fish & Chip Restaurant or enjoy Ice Cream at Ciccarelli. Kayak's paddle close to shore and Jet-Ski's zig-zag around the bay.
During Autumn and Winter, Sea Anglers line the water's edge, and surfers make the most of the choppy waves. Occasionally kite surfers will go further out to sea on days suited to the sport.
The promenade starts next to a historic bandstand and weaves around the old First World War Searchlight Emplacements. It then passes the Dave Stephens Building - whose architecture resembles a ship – and continues past an amphitheatre, a children's play area, and the Beach huts.
At the point where the path meets the Battery, there is a Beach Slipway onto the sand before one of several groynes highlighting the beginning of the Seaton Sluice links.
