For 10 days, the picturesque small towns and idyllic waterfront living across Connecticut continued to impress. We discuss the hometown advantages of colonial homes, autumn leaves, farmer's markets, trails, and access to major cities like NYC. We also discuss Sandy Hook, which was a very dark stain on our country's modern history. Once we're done (not at all) settling the debate on America's gun fetish, we also debate the viability of dating apps and share some of the latest crime stories. Southford Falls State Park is a public recreation area covering 126 acres in the towns of Oxford and Southbury, Connecticut. The state park offers fishing, hiking, waterfalls, and a covered bridge over Eight Mile Brook. It is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
History
The fast flowing waters of Eight Mile Brook as it drops steeply from Lake Quassapaug to the Housatonic River provided power for an early industrial complex, which at one time included gristmills, sawmills, and the shops of iron workers, button makers, knife makers, and other skilled tradesmen.
Evidence in the channel suggests that man-made improvements were introduced to strengthen the river's flow.
At the turn of the 20th century, the Diamond Match Company bought up the site and built a factory for the manufacture of cardboard matchboxes. After the factory burned down for a second time, the site was ceded to the state in 1927.
The state park was established in 1932
Activities and amenities
The park's recreational features include hiking trails, picnicking facilities, skiing and ice-skating in winter, field sports, and fishing. It is a designated Trout Park, stocked weekly with trout from the state's fish hatcheries.

The town center, comprising the adjacent villages of Woodbury and North Woodbury, is designated by the U.S. Census Bureau as the Woodbury Center census-designated place. Woodbury was founded in 1673.
Southbury is a town in western New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. Southbury is north of Oxford and Newtown, and east of Brookfield. Its population was 19,879 at the 2020 census. Southford Falls State Park Full Hike | Southbury Connecticut
On a blazing saturday afternoon we finally made it out to Southford falls. While the falls are located close to the parking lot, we had to hike out to the Fire Tower. This is a small but pretty park, most of which sit next to a pond and creek. There are plenty of places to take a shallow dip and a small board walk to enjoy as well!

Bent of the River Audubon Center is a 700-acre nature sanctuary and education center located in Southbury, Connecticut. It is part of Audubon Connecticut (a state office of the National Audubon Society) and the Atlantic Flyway, and is dedicated to Audubon's open space and working lands conservation efforts in Connecticut.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy trails, nature programs, and conservation-themed events throughout the year.
