Gastonia, North Carolina is the 13th largest City in North Carolina and the second largest satellite city of the Charlotte area.
Gastonia was named for William Gaston who was a member of the North Carolina Supreme Court from 1833 to 1844. Gastonia is also the county seat of Gaston County which was also named after William Gaston. Gastonia was known for the textile mills years ago. Gaston County had a great deal of textile mills from the 20's till the 90's when some of the mills were closing and changing locations. One event that was observed nationwide was the Loray Mill Strike in 1929. This strike is one of the most notable in the history of the United States. The Loray Mill building still stands today and are apartments - but still displays the architect of years ago. Its also the tallest building in Gastonia @ 140 feet.
Gastonia is filled with attractions or things to do. Rather it's riding to nearby Charlotte or maybe take a hike in beautiful Crowders Mountain State Park - there are always something to do. This makes Gastonia a great place to visit or live.

Martha Rivers Park 4K - Gastonia, NC (DJI Mavic Pro Footage) Drone Aerial Shots
Martha Rivers Park is a 58 acre - popular park in Gastonia, NC. This popular park is named after the daughter of the original owner of the property that the park sits on today.
In 1995, the Gastonia City Council and the Gaston County School Boards approved to deed an existing 20 acre park and 34 acres adjoining acres to create the existing Martha Rivers Park. The 34 acres beside the existing 20 acre park - was originally purchased as a future school site. Later the City purchased additional 3 acres - making up the total 58 acres. The construction for the park took place in 2 phases through the years of 1997 to 2001. A Quarry was on part of the property prior - but was filled in including the quarry made ponds.
The park has so much to offer which makes it a popular park for Gastonia. Here are some of features of the park:

Gastonia is the largest city in and county seat of Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is the second-largest satellite city of the Charlotte area, behind Concord. The population was 71,741 at the 2010 Census. In 2019, the population had increased to 77,273. Gastonia is the 13th most populous city in North Carolina. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area, officially designated the Charlotte Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
The city is a historic center for textile manufacturing and was the site of the Loray Mill Strike of 1929, which became a key event in the labor movement. While manufacturing remains important to the local economy, the city also has well-developed healthcare, education, and government sectors.

Gaston County is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 227,943. The county seat is Gastonia. Dallas served as the original county seat from 1846 until 1911.
Gaston County is included in the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, NC-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had an estimated population of 2,805,115 in 2023. The county is located in the southern Piedmont region.
Of North Carolina's 100 counties, Gaston County ranks 74th in size, consisting of approximately 364 square miles (940 km2), and is tenth in population. The county has fifteen incorporated towns. In addition to fifteen incorporated towns and cities, there are several unincorporated communities such as Hardin, Lucia, Crowders Mountain, Sunnyside, Alexis, Tryon, and North Belmont.
Crowders Mountain State Park is a 5,217-acre (21.11 km2) North Carolina state park in Gaston County, North Carolina in the United States. It is near Kings Mountain, North Carolina and on the outskirts of Gastonia, North Carolina, it includes the peaks of Crowder's Mountain and The Pinnacle. Crowders Mountain is named for Crowders Creek which originates near its base. The cliffs are a popular destination for rock climbers.
The mountain itself is a monadnock, an isolated erosional remnant that rises abruptly from the surrounding plain. Geologically, neither Crowders Mountain nor The Pinnacle are true mountains. Crowders Mountain sharply rises some 800 feet (240 m) above the surrounding countryside, and presents sheer rock cliffs that are 100 - 150 feet (46 m) in height. The mountain rises to 1,625 feet (495 m) above sea level. The peak is believed to be the remnant of a much higher mountain which formed some 400 - 500 million years ago and was gradually worn down by the elements. The park sets at the northeast end of the Kings Mountain Range, a 16-mile (26 km) long range of low peaks which include the site of the Battle of Kings Mountain of the American Revolution.
The Pinnacle
The park contains two named peaks:
Crowders Mountain, 1,625 feet (495 m), is in the northeastern section of the park. 35.232350°N 81.276439°W
The Pinnacle, 1,705 feet (520 m), is in the western section of the park. 35.207817°N 81.312626°W
The park features a Visitors Center.

Crowders Mountain is one of two main peaks within Crowders Mountain State Park, the other peak being The Pinnacle. The park is located in the western Piedmont of North Carolina between the cities of Kings Mountain and Gastonia or about 25 miles (40 km) west of Charlotte. Crowders Mountain abruptly rises nearly 800 feet (240 m) above the surrounding terrain, and has an elevation of 1,625 feet (495 m) above sea level.
Although stated as true on some sites, the mountain was not named after Ulrich Crowder [Krauter], a German merchant and farmer. In 1789, Ulrich purchased land much farther north of the mountain before moving west. The mountain is named for Crowders Creek, which originates near the base of the mountain. The original namesake of Crowders Creek is unknown, but mostly likely lived farther south along Crowders Creek. Crowders Mountain and The Pinnacle, located to the southwest, once served as markers to separate the hunting grounds of the Catawba and Cherokee Indians.
In the early 1970s a mining company began doing exploratory sampling of areas along what is now the Backside Trail with the intent of purchasing the minerals rights to excavate the mountain for kyanite, barite, and iron. This led local concerned citizens, educational institutions, and local governments to join together and convince state government pursue the creation of a state park in order to protect the area.
In 1973 the State of North Carolina created Crowders Mountain State Park. It opened to the public in 1974. Crowders Mountain proper was added to the new park in 1978. The Pinnacle was added in 1987. In the year 2000, 2000+ acres were purchased. This purchase brought the entire ridge line of Kings Mountain into the park and took park boundaries to the North Carolina/South Carolina state line. Both monadnocks present sheer rock cliffs which are 100–150 feet (30–46 m) in height. The cliffs of Crowders Mountain are popular among rock climbers. Rock climbing is no longer permitted on The Pinnacle. Hiking trails lead to both summits, from which it is possible to view the skyscrapers of nearby Charlotte, North Carolina, on a clear day.
