Kenchanagudda is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India. The village is located in the Siruguppa taluk of Ballari district.River Tungabhadra flows through this village, branching into seven streams. There are also seven kattes (platforms constructed of stones around a wide tree where a group of people sit for a chit-chat). The place is surrounded by more than a dozen hills.
On the bank of the river there is the vrindavana (holy grave of Hindu saints, especially of those belonging to a matha or parampara(lineage)) of Sri Vasudhendra teertha who is the great grandson of Sri Raghavendra Swami. The Raghavendra mutt of Mantralayam administers the vrindavana. This place attracts Brahmin tourists from all over Karnataka. Every year, on the sixth, seventh and eighth days ( namely shashthi, saptami and ashtami) of the ashvayuja mãsa of the Hindu calendar, the aãradhane (anniversary of the day on which the saint entered the vrindavana alive) of Sri Vasudhendra teertha swamy is held in kenchanagudda.
The river here is known for its scenery. A song of the Kannada film Maanasa Sarovara titled Chanda Chanda was shot here.Remains of the era of Vijayanagara Empire are found around the village.
There is a hydro-electric power plant across one of the seven branches of the river. Kenchanagudda is located 5 km west of Siruguppa. There are two routes to kenchanagudda. When coming from Ballari along NH-150A, take a left besides a petrol bunk, just before entering Siruguppa. The road, headed towards Kampli reaches the kenchanagudda village after 4 km. From the village, a small road tangential off the right of the main road leads to the vrindavana.

If you go down to the Tungabhadra River from around 8:30AM to 9:30AM, you may just be graced with the presence of a truly magnificent and wondrous animal, Lakshmi the Indian elephant. If you miss her this morning, however, you can find her around dinnertime in the Virupaksha Temple.
If you see her in the temple, she may be blessing people as well as hanging out and taking breaks to rest and eat lots of food. She will bless you if you drop her a 10 or 20 rupee note, putting her long trunk on your head, an action that has serious holy implications for Hindus and tourists alike. Although I didn't get blessed when I saw Lakshmi (or Laxmi), my friend Milo. On the first day, we tried to go see the elephant in the morning, but she was not there because of the local Hindu festival Maha Shivratri.
I will post another video soon where Milo gets blessed, as well as a video touring the ancient elephant stables that can be found in Hampi. Hampi is one place that I feel very blessed to have traveled to in my lifetime, it is a place truly like no other.
Hampi sits on the banks of the Tungabhadra River in the ruins of the ancient city of Vijayanagar, the capital of the Vijayanagara empire. Virupaksha Temple is the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi and has been considered the most sacred over the centuries. It is fully intact among the surrounding ruins and is still used in worship. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Virupaksha, as the consort of the local goddess Pampa who is associated with the Tungabhadra River. There is also a powerful Virupakshini amma temple (mother goddess) in a village called Nalagamapalle, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, approximately 100 km from Tirupati.
The city of Hampi bears exceptional testimony to the vanished civilization of the kingdom of Vijayanagar, which reached its apogee under the reign of Krishna Deva Raya (1509-30). It offers an outstanding example of a type of structure that illustrates a significant historical situation: that of the kingdoms of South India which, menaced by the Muslim Deccan sultanates, were occasionally allied with the Portuguese of Goa.
The austere, grandiose site of Hampi was the last capital of the last great Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. Its fabulously rich princes built Dravidian temples and palaces which won the admiration of travelers between the 14th and 16th centuries. Conquered by the Deccan Muslim confederacy in 1565, the city was pillaged over a period of six months before being abandoned.
As the final capital of the last of the great kingdom of South India, that of the Vijayanagar, Hampi, enriched by the cotton and the spice trade was one of the most beautiful cities of the medieval world. Its palaces and Dravidian temples were much admired by travelers, be they Arab (Abdul Razak), Portuguese (Domingo Paes), or Italian (Nicolò dei Conti).
Conquered by the Muslims after the battle of Talikota in 1565, it was plundered over six months and then abandoned. Imposing monumental vestiges, partially disengaged and reclaimed, make Hampi today one of the most striking ruins of the world.
