ALGARVE, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Places To Visit In The Algarve
The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. Thanks to its year-round sunny weather and beautiful rugged coastline, it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Europe. In this video we highlight 10 diverse places to visit in the Algarve:
10. Sagres
Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.
9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.
8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.
☑️ Book a boat tour:
7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.
6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.
5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.
☑️ Book a tour to Monchique and Silves with Algarve Jipe Safari:
3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.
2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.
1. Benagil Cave
The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

With beautiful bright blue skies again, we’re out exploring Silves. Its been a perfect days exploring this wonderful city, that was once the former capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve, where the fragrance of lemon and orange trees fills the air. Romance is pervasive in Silves, where natural beauty abounds. In the main square, Praça de Municipio, lofty palm trees share space with flowering gardens, and the local market offers present day flavours, while the archaeological museum offers a taste of the past.

The Iberian Lynx National Breeding Center (Silves’ Center) was inaugurated in May 2009 and received its first Iberian lynx specimen, Azahar, a female from the “Zoobotánico de Jerez”, on October the 26th. The Center of Silves is the result of an agreement signed between the Spanish kingdom and the Portuguese republic for the conservation of this species during 2006 and 2008, which represents the most visible link of collaboration between these two countries for the conservation of the Iberian lynx. Furthermore, Spain and Portugal have agreed to prepare and create new territories for reintroduction in both countries, setting up an Iberian program for in situ conservation and reintroduction of the species.

Silves is a historic city in the Algarve region of southern mainland Portugal. It's known for it's historic architecture alongside the Arade River, and its important place in the history of Portugal.
Beyond that, Silves offers an authentic view of Moorish architecture plus beautiful views of the green rolling hills that surround it. This incredible history provides the perfect back drop for the Silves Medieval Fair. I filmed this POV footage for you in the last week of September 2021.
All this with an affordable price tag and friendly, relaxed atmosphere!
The top tourist attractions and scenic spots in Silves include:
- Castelo de Silves (Castle)
- Sé de Silves (Cathedral)
- Pelourinho de Silves (City Gate / Turret)
- Quiosque da Rota dos Vinhos do Algarve (Historic News Stand & Park)
- Praça Al-Mutamid (Park)
- Ponte Romana De Silves (Roman Bridge)
- The newly renovated Mercado Municipal de Silves (Municipal Market Silves)
- Igreja da Misericórdia de Silves (Church)
- Arade River
- Silves Golf Course
- And the many museums, galleries, restaurants and beautiful streets of the old town!
I'm writing a free guide to Silves, which will give you information about these attractions, and I created this video to give you a taste of this great place to explore on your vacation in Portugal.
When it's published, you'll find the free guide here:
Would you like to be getting lost in ancient streets on your way up to a castle in a mysterious place Slives right now?

A day visit to the city of Silves: Amazing history in Portugal مدينة شلب- جنوب البرتغال
A great day trip to Silves from Albufeira (Algarve) where we went through multiple towns (Algos, Tunes, Alcantarilha, and Poco Barreto)
There is amazing history. The heyday for this town was during the Arab times when it was the capital of the Algarve.
We visited the beautiful and impressive castle of Silves on the top of the hill. The castle is a monument to Islamic rule until the 14th century. There you see great works of architecture, the remains of a palace, and a medieval cistern. Other sites in Silves are Silves Cathedral, Museu Municipal de Arqueologia de Silves, Silves Old Town, Cruz de Portugal, Mercado Municipal (closed during our visit), and Ponte Velha (15th-century bridge over the Arade).
