नमस्कार मंडळी आजच्या भटकंतीमध्ये आपण निघालो आहोत, सातारा जिल्ह्याच्या माण तालुक्यातील सातारा, सोलापूर व पुणे या तीन जिल्ह्यांच्या सीमेवर असलेले एक ऐतिहासिक आणि धार्मिक ठिकाण - शिखर शिंगणापूर येथे. निमित्त आहे याच आठवड्यात येणाऱ्या प्रसिद्ध शिखर शिंगणापूरची यात्रेचे.
गुढीपाडव्यापासून म्हणजेच चैत्र शुद्ध प्रतिपदेपासून सुरू होणारी ही शिखर शिंगणापूर यात्रा बारा दिवस चालते. पंचमीला शंभू महादेवाला आणि पार्वती मातेला हळद लावली जाते. अष्टमीला रात्री बारा वाजता देवाची लग्न लावली जातात. श्री शिखर शिंगणापूरच्या यात्रेतील अदभूत पालखी सोहळा अनुभवण्यासाठी आजूबाजूच्या अनेक गावांतून भाविक गर्दी करतात. देवाला अभिषेक घालण्यासाठी विविध तीर्थ क्षेत्राचे पाणी कावडीतून आणले जाते. मुंगी घाटातून सुरू झालेला कावड सोहळा हा अत्यंत नयनरम्य असतो. कावडी चढवत असताना हलगी, तुरे आणि लेझीम याच्या तालावर अनेक भक्तगण आपल्याला नाचताना पाहायला मिळतात. फलटणच्या आग्नेयेस ३७ किमी.एवढ्या अंतरावर आहे सह्याद्रीचाच एक फाटा असलेला शंभू महादेवाचा डोंगर. महादेवाचे प्रसिद्ध मंदिर याच डोंगरावर समुद्र सपाटीपासून १,०५० मी. उंचीवर.
या डोंगराच्या पायथ्याशी आहे शिखर शिंगणापूर गाव. महादेवाचे हे मंदिर आणि शिंगणापूर गाव यादव कुळातील सिंधण राजाने वसवले आहे, असे म्हणतात. समोर आपल्याला दगडी तटबंदीच्या मध्ये वसलेले पुरातन महादेवाचे मंदिर पाहायला मिळते.मंदिरात जायला जवळपास ४०० पायऱ्या चढून जावे लागते.
मंदिराच्या आवारात आल्यावर समोर पाहायला मिळते आकाश स्पर्धा करणारा महादेव मंदिराचा सुंदर कळस. मंदिराचे शिखर हा स्थापत्यकलेचा उत्कृष्ट नमुना आहे. शिखरावर अगदी नाजुक नक्षीकाम केले आहे. पुढे झूम केल्यानंतर शिखरावरती साकारलेल्या विविध देवतांच्या आखीव रेखीव, सुबक मूर्ती पाहायला मिळतात. या मूर्ती पाहून आपल्याला भारतीय स्थापत्य कलेविषयी अभिमान न वाटला तर नवलच.
मंदिराच्या गाभाऱ्यामध्ये दोन शिवलिंग आहेत. त्यांनाच शिव पार्वतीचे प्रतिक मानतात. शिखर शिंगणापूर! पार्वतीने रुसून लपून बसलेल्या शंकराला अचूक शाेधून काढले आणि पुन्हा जाऊ नये म्हणून चक्क दुसऱ्यांदा जिथे लग्न केले ते हे ठिकाण. स्वयंभू महादेवाचे ठिकाण म्हणून प्रसिद्ध आहे.
शिखर शिंगणापूरची यात्रा डोंगराच्या पायथ्याशी असलेल्या उमाबन येथे भरली जाते. या उमाबनात प्रत्येक गावासाठी एक झाड दिले आहे. गावकरी आपापल्या झाडापाशी जमा होऊन यात्रेचा आनंद लुटतात. यात्रेतील सर्वात अदभूत सोहळा म्हणजे पालखी सोहळा. देवाला अभिषेक घालण्यासाठी विविध तीर्थ क्षेत्राचे पाणी कावडीतून आणले जाते. बऱ्याच गावातून अनेक कावडी येतात पण मनाची कावड आपल्या सासवड गावातून भुतोजी तेली यांची असते. कावडी द्वादशीला शिंगणापूरच्या पायथ्याशी पोहोचतात. दुपारनंतर अत्यंत अवघड अशा मुंगी घाटातून महादेवाच्या डोंगरावर चडतात.तर मंडळी याच आठवड्यात येणाऱ्या शिंगणापूरच्या यात्रेचा, मुंगी घाटातून डोंगर चढण्याचा अविस्मरणीय अनुभव घ्यायला विसरू नका.

In this video, I will show you this piece of Denmark on the Ganges on my camera. First I went to a place next to the Ganges ghat. The name is The Denmark Tavern. The hotel was built by James Parr in about 1786. Merchants who traveled long distances by river sought refuge here. Then a lot of time passed by. This abandoned architecture was later renovated at the initiative of the current Danish government. Denmark Tavern started again in 2018. Food lovers have been gathering since the launch. For those who love to eat cake, Flurish is on one side.
From here I walked towards my next destination. St. Olav Church. The Catholic Church was founded in 1806. The church is named after St. Olav, a saint of Norway, and is constructed by the then Danish governor, Ole Bie. The christening of the church is much less on this Christmas due to the pandemic. No entry to outsiders except church staff.
Built-in the year of 1755, this Danish government building is now Srirampur Court. It has also been reformed.
From here I went to my next destination, Baptist Mission Church. Carey, Marsman, and Ward, the three leaders of the Danish Renaissance, lived in this house when they first came to Srirampur. The year was 1793. As they were Baptists, they established the Serampore Baptist Mission Church here to facilitate their preaching. The church was not open this year like other times. Understandably, due to the situation, many rules could not be followed this time.
William Carey founded Serampore College in 1818. It was the first degree-awarding university in India in 1829. Located on the banks of the Ganges, the college campus houses a museum in memory of William Carey. His contribution to the history of education in India is undeniable. The first printing press in India was also built by William Carey in 1800, which lasted for 37 years.
Then I went to witness the end of the Danish era. It is in this cemetery in Braja Dutt Lane that Carey is laid to rest. William Carey died in 1834. Eleven years later, in 1845, Srirampur came under British rule. Next to William Carey is the tomb of his close friends Marsman and Ward.
Srirampur can be reached by local trains from Howrah. Within a day you can come and visit these places. Map locations are given below.

এই ডেনমার্ক ট্র্যাভার্ন সম্পর্কে বলার আগে একটু শ্রীরামপুরে ডেন উপনিবেশের ইতিহাসটা বলে নিই৷ ১৭৫৫ সালে আজকের এই শহর ডেনমার্কের অধীনে আসে৷ নাম ছিল ফ্রেডেরিকসনগর৷ নদীর ধার বরাবর ছিল ইউরোপিয়ান ভিলার সারি৷ শ্রীরামপুর তখন ‘মোস্ট বিউটিফুল অ্যান্ড বেস্ট কেপ্ট ইউরোপিয়ান টাউন ইন ইন্ডিয়া৷ কফি, বিয়ারের ফেনায় ভরপুর৷ সাদাদের সঙ্গে যোগ দিচ্ছেন বাঙালি বাবুরাও৷ ১৮৩০ নাগাদ ব্রিটিশ এমা রবার্টস লিখেছেন সেই শ্রীরামপুর নিয়ে৷ ১৮৫৫ সালে ব্রিটিশরা এলাকাটি কিনে নেওয়ার আগে পর্যন্ত সেই ধারা ছিল অব্যাহত৷১৭৫৫ সালে শ্রীরামপুরে ডেনমার্কের উপনিবেশ গড়ে ওঠার পরের নব্বই বছর এই শহরে ঘাঁটি ছিল দিনেমারদের। সেই সময় একের পর এক স্থাপত্য গড়ে ওঠে এখানে। তারই একটি এই ‘ত্যাভার্ন’ বা সরাইখানা। ১৫ হাজার বর্গফুটের উপর জায়গা নিয়ে ১৭৮২ সালে তৈরি হয়েছিল দ্বিতল এই সরাইখানা। কালক্রমে বাড়িটি ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত হয়। দেওয়ালে, ছাদে জাঁকিয়ে বসে বট অশ্বত্থের দল। ঝোপঝাড়ে মুখঢাকে চৌহদ্দি।
২০১৮ তে সংস্কারের কাজ শেষ হয়ে নতুন করে উদ্বোধন করা হয় এই Denmark Tavern এর। তিন বছর আগেও যে একটা পোড়ো বাড়ি দাঁড়িয়েছিল, আজ যেন কোনও জাদুকাঠির ছোঁয়ায় ভগ্নস্তূপে প্রাণ ফিরেছে।
